El periodista en el umbral del siglo XXI

El intento de perfilar al periodista en el umbral del siglo XXI, inmediatamente es asaltado por la pregunta previa: ¿De quien estamos hablando?.Es decir, la rancia pregunta que no ha dejado de repetirse a lo largo del siglo XX y que sigue sin una respuesta universalmente admitida: ¿Quién es periodista?. O, si se prefiere, ¿en qué consiste el ejercicio profesional del periodismo? Las múltiples respuestas, como las múltiples evasiones, flotan en la confusión, entre la retórica decimonónica y la implacable guerra mediática por el poder de nuestros días. En esta situación, el autor analiza con realismo la figura actual del periodista, empleado de la industria de la información; pero, al mismo tiempo, entre la ética y la ciencia, no pierde la esperanza de que, en este siglo XXI, por fin, el periodista logre su propia identidad. Mientras tanto, el autor ofrece un catálogo práctico de treinta señales para identificar periodistas.When it is tried to draw the journalist of 21st century immediately is assaulted by the previous question: Of whom we are speaking? The multiple answers, like the multiple evasions, float in the confusion, between the 19th century rhetoric and the implacable mediatic war by the power of our days. In this situation, the author analyses with realism the present figure of the journalist, employee of the industry of the information; but, at the same time, between the ethics and science, he does not lose the hope of which, in this 21st century, finally, the journalist obtains his own identity.
