Asymptotic iteration method for eigenvalue problems
An asymptotic interation method for solving second-order homogeneous linear
differential equations of the form y'' = lambda(x) y' + s(x) y is introduced,
where lambda(x) \neq 0 and s(x) are C-infinity functions. Applications to
Schroedinger type problems, including some with highly singular potentials, are
presented.Comment: 14 page

A basis for variational calculations in d dimensions
In this paper we derive expressions for matrix elements (\phi_i,H\phi_j) for
the Hamiltonian H=-\Delta+\sum_q a(q)r^q in d > 1 dimensions.
The basis functions in each angular momentum subspace are of the form
phi_i(r)=r^{i+1+(t-d)/2}e^{-r^p/2}, i >= 0, p > 0, t > 0. The matrix elements
are given in terms of the Gamma function for all d. The significance of the
parameters t and p and scale s are discussed. Applications to a variety of
potentials are presented, including potentials with singular repulsive terms of
the form b/r^a, a,b > 0, perturbed Coulomb potentials -D/r + B r + Ar^2, and
potentials with weak repulsive terms, such as -g r^2 + r^4, g > 0.Comment: 22 page

Perturbation expansions for a class of singular potentials
Harrell's modified perturbation theory [Ann. Phys. 105, 379-406 (1977)] is
applied and extended to obtain non-power perturbation expansions for a class of
singular Hamiltonians H = -D^2 + x^2 + A/x^2 + lambda/x^alpha, (A\geq 0, alpha
> 2), known as generalized spiked harmonic oscillators. The perturbation
expansions developed here are valid for small values of the coupling lambda >
0, and they extend the results which Harrell obtained for the spiked harmonic
oscillator A = 0. Formulas for the the excited-states are also developed.Comment: 23 page
High-temperature superfluidity with abnormal fermionic occupancy
We examine a Lipkin based two-level pairing model at finite temperature and in the thermodynamic limit. Whereas at T=0 the model exhibits a superconducting ground state for sufficiently high values of the coupling constant, a partially superconducting phase in whichsome of the particles are paired, is found to survive at high temperatures in a special treatment. This phase is a mixture of “abnormally-occupied” eigenstates, which lie at higher energy, of the interactionless model Hamiltonian.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta
The transmodulation of HER2 and EGFR by Substance P in breast cancer cells requires c-Src and metalloproteinase activation.
BACKGROUND: Substance P (SP) is a pleiotropic cytokine/neuropeptide that enhances breast cancer (BC) aggressiveness by transactivating tyrosine kinase receptors like EGFR and HER2. We previously showed that SP and its cognate receptor NK-1 (SP/NK1-R) signaling modulates the basal phosphorylation of HER2 and EGFR in BC, increasing aggressiveness and drug resistance. In order to elucidate the mechanisms responsible for NK-1R-mediated HER2 and EGFR transactivation, we investigated the involvement of c-Src (a ligand-independent mediator) and of metalloproteinases (ligand-dependent mediators) in HER2/EGFR activation. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Overexpression of NK-1R in MDA-MB-231 and its chemical inhibition in SK-BR-3, BT-474 and MDA-MB-468 BC cells significantly modulated c-Src activation, suggesting that this protein is a mediator of NK-1R signaling. In addition, the c-Src inhibitor 4-(4'-phenoxyanilino)-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline prevented SP-induced activation of HER2. On the other hand, SP-dependent phosphorylation of HER2 and EGFR decreased substantially in the presence of the MMP inhibitor 1-10, phenanthroline monohydrate, and the dual inhibition of both c-Src and MMP almost abolished the activation of HER2 and EGFR. Moreover, the use of these inhibitors demonstrated that this Src and MMP-dependent signaling is important to the cell viability and migration capacity of HER2+ and EGFR+ cell lines. CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that the transactivation of HER2 and EGFR by the pro-inflammatory cytokine/neuropeptide SP in BC cells is a c-Src and MMP-dependent process
Supersymmetric variational energies of 3d confined potentials
Within the approach of Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics associated with the
variational method a recipe to construct the superpotential of three
dimensional confined potentials in general is proposed. To illustrate the
construction, the energies of the Harmonic Oscillator and the Hulth\'en
potential, both confined in three dimensions are evaluated. Comparison with the
corresponding results of other approximative and exact numerical results is
presented.Comment: 9 pages, Late
