Primera versión española del NEPSY para la evaluación neuropsicológica del desarrollo en una muestra de niños españoles

All the subtests of the first Spanish language version of the NEPSY were administered to a sample of 415 children aged 3 to 12 years old: 193 boys and 222 girls. For statistical analysis, the sample was divided into two groups: one comprising 98 children aged 3-4, and the other 317 children aged 5-12. First, the adjustment of the distribution of the different items of this Spanish version of the NEPSY subtests to the normal curve was checked. The usefulness of these subtests to assess the level of children’s development according to their chronological age was then tested using regression analysis. Finally, we checked that the raw scores on the subtest items of this Spanish version ofthe NEPSY differed significantly between 3 and 4 year olds and between 5 and 6 year olds: in each age pair, the mean scores of the older group increased inaccuracy and decreased in runtime and errors.Se administran todos los subtests de la primera versión en castellano del NEPSY a una muestra de 415 niños de 3 a 12 años de edad: 193 varones y 222 niñas. Para las tareas estadísticas, se separan en dos grupos: uno de 98 niños de 3-4 años y otro de 317 de 4-12 años. En primer lugar, se comprueba el ajuste de las distribuciones de las distintas variables de los subtest de esta versión española del NEPSY a la curva normal. Posteriormente se comprueba la utilidad de estos para verificar el nivel de desarrollo de los niños por su edad cronológica, mediante un análisis de regresión. Finalmente, se verifica que las diferencias en las puntuaciones directas de las distintas variables de los subtestsde esta versión española del NEPSY, entre los niños de 3 y 4 años y entre losde 5 y 6 años, son estadísticamente significativas, de forma que ambos grupos de niños mayores aumentan las medias en exactitud y disminuyen las del tiempo de ejecución y los errores en las diferentes tareas

Understanding the effect of economic recession on healthcare services: a systematic review

Background: We aimed to examine the available evidence about the impact of the crisis on the use of healthcare services in Europe. Methods: We developed a systematic review of scientific literature for the period 2008-2017. The researchers searched three databases Medline/PubMed, Scopus and Web of Knowledge. For manual searching, several spe-cialized journals of related scope as well as the finalized articles'' reference list were searched. Descriptive and thematic analyses were carried out. PRISMA quality criteria and the recommendations of the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination were followed. Results: Of 3, 685 studies, 35 met inclusion criteria. Regarding “Effects of the social structure” healthcare accessibility inequalities increased by socioeconomic levels, especially in unemployed, people with low educational levels and migrants. Regarding “Healthcare effect”, the impact of the recession was observed in unmet needs, pharmaceutical spending containment, reduction of hospital beds, and privatization of services. Conclusion: Austerity policies have contributed to increasing inequalities in the use of health services during the economic downturn. In the current economic climate, new management and health planning strategies such as hospitalisation at home, new models of integrated care and pharmaceutical management are needed to help achieve greater equity and equality in health

Severa complicación neurológica tras vertebroplastia percutánea

La vertebroplastia percutánea como tratamiento de las fracturas acuñamientos vertebrales osteoporóticos tras fracaso del tratamiento sintomático y ortopédico así como para el tratamiento de lesiones tumorales del caquis ha tomado un auge importante debido a los buenos resultados publicados y la baja tasa de complicaciones. Este hecho ha llevado a las casas comerciales a desarrollar productos específicos para esta técnica que simplifican su utilización y disminuyen en lo posible las dificultades técnicas del procedimiento así como sus complicaciones. A pesar de ello, en nuestra opinión es una técnica que requiere una alta demanda de entrenamiento y que puede dar lugar a graves complicaciones a pesar de que no existan prácticamente en la literatura complicaciones severas con la utilización de esta técnica. Presentamos un caso ocurrido en nuestra serie de una paraplejia completa no resuelta tras una vertebroplastia percutanea torácica para una fractura osteoporótica.The technique of percutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures and spine tumors was develop an important increase because there were a lot of publications with good results and low rate of complications. This fact was done a fast developing of instruments and new PMMA cements to simplify this technique and decreased the rate of complications. In our opinion the percutaneous vertebroplasty is a high demand technique and have a high potential of major neurological complications if it is not performed with use of appropriate safeguards, but the purpose of this article is not to condemn the technique because we have had a good results using it in this pathologies and the majority of publications have shown a high rate of excellent results

Combination of the W boson polarization measurements in top quark decays using ATLAS and CMS data at √s = 8 TeV

The measurements are based on proton-proton collision data produced at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 20 fb−1 for each experiment. The measurements used events containing one lepton and having different jet multiplicities in the final state. The results are quoted as fractions of W bosons with longitudinal (F0), left-handed (FL), or right-handed (FR) polarizations. The resulting combined measurements of the polarization fractions are F0 = 0.693 ± 0.014 and FL = 0.315 ± 0.011. The fraction FR is calculated from the unitarity constraint to be FR = −0.008 ± 0.007. These results are in agreement with the standard model predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and represent an improvement in precision of 25 (29)% for F0 (FL) with respect to the most precise single measurement. A limit on anomalous right-handed vector (VR), and left- and right-handed tensor (gL, gR) tWb couplings is set while fixing all others to their standard model values. The allowed regions are [−0.11, 0.16] for VR, [−0.08, 0.05] for gL, and [−0.04, 0.02] for gR, at 95% confidence level. Limits on the corresponding Wilson coefficients are also derive

Agricultura y contaminación del agua

El libro trata un tema cuya importancia contrasta con su escaso estudio. Los efectos negativos de las actividades agrícolas en la calidad del agua han recibido mucha atención en otros países y muy poca en el nuestro. En México, 76% del agua se emplea en la agricultura y el conocimiento de su huella contaminante es escaso. Este libro es resultado de una investigación multidisciplinaria que muestra a la agricultura poco amigable con el agua; que los agricultores tienen una percepción sesgada de su actividad y no reconocen sus efectos en el ambiente; que el gobierno interviene con políticas erróneas estimulando el uso de insumos contaminantes, y que un grupo importante de agricultores realiza prácticas agrícolas poco sustentables. Ante tal panorama, el libro aporta información sobre este problema en una importante región agrícola; propone algunas medidas e instrumentos para minimizarlo; cubre un vacío en la investigación y la información y espera que motive estudios similares en otras regiones del país
