Study of dominating parameters of high speed solar plasma streams in relation to cosmic ray and geomagnetic storms

    Get PDF
The high speed solar wind streams observed near Earth are generally associated with the solar features, such as solar flares and coronal holes. Past studies of these streams from the two sources have revealed distinctly different effects on cosmic ray intensity, whereas the effect is similar for geomagnetic disturbances. Moreover, the effect of the magnitude of the high speed streams (V) and its rate of increase (dv/dt) has also been a subject of investigation to understand their relative contribution in producing geomagnetic disturbances. From the analysis of some of the fast streams presented here, it is difficult to predict, which one of the two (V, dv/dt) is more effective in producing geo-magnetic disturbances. Further, in most of the cases, no substantial decrease in cosmic ray intensity is observed

This work reports on the experimental investigation of the wide band gap compounds LiMgZ (Z = P, As, Sb), which are promising candidates for opto-electronics and anode materials for Lithium batteries. The compounds crystallize in the cubic (C1_b) MgAgAs structure (space group F-43m). The polycrystalline samples were synthesized by solid state reaction methods. X-ray and neutron diffraction measurements show a homogeneous, single-phased samples. The electronic properties were studied using the direct current (DC) method. Additionally UV-VIS diffuse reflectance spectra were recorded in order to investigate the band gap nature. The measurements show that all compounds exhibit semiconducting behavior with direct band gaps of 1.0 eV to 2.3 eV depending on the Z element. A decrease of the peak widths in the static 7Li nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra with increasing temperature was observed, which can directly be related to an increase of Li ion mobility.Comment: 8 page

Publisher Copyright: © 2023 The AuthorsIn recent years, high entropy alloys (HEAs) have been shown to be promising alternatives to common engineering alloys, depending on their composition and thermomechanical processing. Up to now, several works aimed at improving the mechanical properties and discovering different HEAs given the extremely large compositional possibilities made available by the multicomponent approach associated to these materials. Their processability, however, is an important topic that must be studied. Welding is a key manufacturing technique that will eventually be applied to HEAs. Thus, there is a need to evaluate the microstructure and property changes induced by the weld thermal cycles, to assess the suitability of certain welding process/HEAs combinations for possible industrial applications. In the present work, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) was used to achieve defect-free joints based on a novel transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 HEA. The microstructure and mechanical behavior of the joints were assessed by means of optical and electron microscopy, synchrotron X-ray diffraction, thermodynamical calculations, microhardness mapping and tensile testing. Overall, an excellent mechanical performance was obtained on the resulting joints, opening the door for their adoption in real-life applications.publishersversionpublishe

Publisher Copyright: © 2022 The AuthorsThe AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high entropy alloy is of great interest due to its unique mechanical properties combining both high strength and plasticity. Here, gas tungsten arc welding was performed for the first time on an as-cast AlCoCrFeNi2.1 alloy. The microstructural evolution of the welded joints was assessed by combining electron microscopy with electron backscatter diffraction, synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis and thermodynamic calculations. Microhardness mapping and tensile testing coupled with digital image correlation were used to investigate the strength distribution across the joint. The base material, heat affected zone and fusion zone are composed of an FCC + B2 BCC eutectic structure, although the relative volume fractions vary across the joint owing to the weld thermal cycle. The BCC nanoprecipitates that existed in the base material started to dissolve into the matrix in the heat affected zone and closer to the fusion zone boundary. Compared to the as-cast base material, the fusion zone evidenced grain refinement owing to the higher cooling rate experienced during solidification. This translates into an increased hardness in this region. The joints exhibit good strength/ductility balance with failure occurring in the base material. This work establishes the potential for using arc-based welding for joining eutectic high entropy alloys.publishersversionpublishe

Publisher Copyright: © 2023 The AuthorsWeldability studies on high entropy alloys are still relatively scarce, delaying the deployment of these materials into real-life applications. Thus, there is an urgent need for in-depth studies of the weldability of these novel advanced engineering alloys. In the current work, an as-cast Fe42Mn28Co10Cr15Si5 metastable high entropy alloy was welded for the first time using gas tungsten arc welding. The weld thermal cycle effect on the microstructure evolution over the welded joint was examined using electron microscopy in combination with electron backscatter diffraction, synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis, and thermodynamic calculations. Furthermore, tensile testing and hardness mapping were correlated with the microstructure evolution. The microstructure evolution across the joint is unveiled, including the origin of the ε-h.c.p. phase at different locations of the material. Different strengthening effects measured throughout the joint are associated with the weld thermal cycle and resulting microstructure. A synergistic effect of smaller grain size of the ε-h.c.p. phase in the fusion zone, overturns the reduced volume fraction of this phase, increasing the local strength of the material. Moreover, the brittle nanosized σ phase was also found to play a critical role in the joints’ premature failure during mechanical testing.publishersversionpublishe

Children's game library as a Unique Extracurricular Educational Establishment in the USSR (the middle of the 20th century)

    Get PDF
The article reveals the history of emergence and work of children's game libraries in the USSR in the middle of the 20th century. The first children's game libraries, which were educational establishments where children could come and play different games, using various game and sport equipment free of charge, appeared in the 1930th and became wide spread in the USSR in the 1930th - 1950th. Children's game libraries had different tasks of their work (organizing children's cultural leisure time, increasing the educational and political levels of children's games and entertainments which were conducted in schools, summer camps and extracurricular educational establishments). They also had different directions of their work, namely: organizational, methodic, educational, experimental, instructive and consultative directions. It has been shown in the article that children’s game libraries had great results of their work (they involved a lot of children and adults in their activities; the network of children's game libraries began to grow; a lot of new toys and games were created and produced by them). However, children's game libraries faced certain difficulties in their work, namely: absence of own premises of children’s game libraries, lack of enough support for their activities by some educational institutions and teaching staff, lack of the required amount of toys and games, insufficient instructive and publishing activities of children’s game libraries

Mungbean is an important food grain legume for human nutrition and nutritional food due to its nutrient-dense seed, liked palatability, and high digestibility. However, anti-nutritional factors pose a significant risk to improving nutritional quality for bio fortification. In the present study, genetic architecture of grain micronutrients (grain iron and zinc concentration) and anti-nutritional factors (grain phytic acid and tannin content) in association mapping panel of 145 diverse mungbean were evaluated. Based on all four parameters genotypes PUSA 1333 and IPM 02-19 were observed as desired genotypes as they had high grain iron and zinc concentration but low grain phytic acid and tannin content. The next generation sequencing (NGS)-based genotyping by sequencing (GBS) identified 14,447 genome-wide SNPs in a diverse selected panel of 127 mungbean genotypes. Population admixture analysis revealed the presence of four different ancestries among the genotypes and LD decay of ∼57.6 kb kb physical distance was noted in mungbean chromosomes. Association mapping analysis revealed that a total of 20 significant SNPs were shared by both GLM and Blink models associated with grain micronutrient and anti-nutritional factor traits, with Blink model identifying 35 putative SNPs. Further, this study identified the 185 putative candidate genes. Including potential candidate genes Vradi07g30190, Vradi01g09630, and Vradi09g05450 were found to be associated with grain iron concentration, Vradi10g04830 with grain zinc concentration, Vradi08g09870 and Vradi01g11110 with grain phytic acid content and Vradi04g11580 and Vradi06g15090 with grain tannin content. Moreover, two genes Vradi07g15310 and Vradi09g05480 showed significant variation in protein structure between native and mutated versions. The identified SNPs and candidate genes are potential powerful tools to provide the essential information for genetic studies and marker-assisted breeding program for nutritional improvement in mungbean
