Effects of microgravity on growth hormone concentration and distribution in plants
On earth, gravity affects the distribution of the plant growth hormone, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), in a manner such that the plant grows into a normal vertical orientation (shoots up, roots down). How the plant controls the amount and distribution of IAA is only partially understood and is currently under investigation in this laboratory. The question to be answered in the flight experiment concerns the effect of gravity on the concentration, turn over, and distribution of the growth hormone. The answer to this question will aid in understanding the mechanism by which plants control the amount and distribution of growth hormone. Such knowledge of a plant's hormonal metabolism may aid in the growth of plants in space and will lead to agronomic advances
“Implementasi Peraturan Daerah (PERDA) Nomor 1 Tahun 2015 Tentang Perlindungan dan Pemenuhan Hak Penyandang Disabilitas di SLB-B Kabupaten Wonosobo”
The implementation of education for disabilities persons is carried out through special education and inclusion with specific curricula and learning processes and learning places, but the role of the Wonosobo regency government tackles this problem less than optimal. This study aims to describe how the implementation of Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2015 on the Protection and Fulfillment of the Rights of Disabilities Persons in extraordinary school of Wonosobo Regency, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting aspects of the implementation of the Regional Regulation. The theory used is the implementation model of George Edward III, Mazmanian and Sabatier, Mazmanian and Sabatier, as well as Meter and Horn theory. The research studied using descriptive research approach. Data collection techniques used in the form of interviews, obervasi and documentation, with qualitative descriptive data analysis. The results show that in general the government, school and community institutions have the same perception toward the principle, purpose and purpose of the law. Protection of persons with disabilities has not fully covered all types of persons with disabilities. Supporting the success of this policy is the environmental aspect with the high level of community support, the policy implementation aspect with the similarity of interests between the government and the community, the support of resources, and the good compliance and responsiveness of the implementers, and the characteristic aspects of the implementing agency with positive responses to policies and commitments the high of the executor. While inhibiting the success of the policy is the communication aspect by the local government and the communication from the community where many people with disability are shut down, the information about the existence of disabled people, and the environmental stagnant in the form of socioeconomic condition of the society which is low. The recommendation of the researcher is the need for better socialization by the government, as well as the effort to establish for Public Extraordinary School of Wonosobo Regency, so that children with disability can be accommodated in special schools that are designated for children with disabilities
Religious education and state modernization : the role of Madrassah in Pakistan development
134 leaves ; : ill., 1 map ; 28 cm.Includes abstract and appendices.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 124-132).The primary objective of this study is to explore madrassah (Islamic religious institution) education in Pakistan in relation to its role in national development. This case study was conducted at six selected madrassahs in the rural areas of northern Punjab. Data was collected through surveys from 15 participants from these madrassahs, and relevant policy documents.
Findings suggest that madrassahs provide free education, boarding, food, and clothing to students from impoverished families. Students mainly join madrassahs because of poverty and a desire to receive Islamic education. After graduating they mostly tend to join other madrassahs and mosques as preachers and teachers. Madrassah education in Pakistan further alienates people from the most disadvantageous sections of the society by creating a welfare system, which does not prepare its students to join the mainstream sections of the society. The Government is making efforts to integrate madrassah education with formal public education

The spin-1/2 coupled tetramer system Ba(TiO)Cu(PO) probed by magnetization, specific heat, and P-NMR
We present the synthesis and a detailed investigation of structural and
magnetic properties of polycrystalline Ba(TiO)Cu(PO) (BTCPO)
via x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, and P
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurements. BTCPO has a 2D layered structure
with interlinked CuO tetramer units. A broad maximum is observed
around 16.5 K in our magnetization data accompanied by a sharp anomaly around
= 9.5 K in the heat capacity. An anomaly at = 9.5 K is also found in
the temperature dependence of the P NMR spin-lattice relaxation rate
. A power law behavior for the heat capacity as well as for the P
below the ordering temperature could be obtained. The P NMR
lineshape is asymmetric and the NMR shift tracks the bulk spin-susceptibility.
We estimated the isotropic and axial components of the hyperfine coupling
tensor to be as the and
, respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 3 tables, 13 figure
Mechanisms and Opportunities for Rational In Silico Design of Enzymes to Degrade Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)
Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present a unique challenge to remediation techniques because their strong carbon−fluorine bonds make them difficult to degrade. This review explores the use of in silico enzymatic design as a potential PFAS degradation technique. The scope of the enzymes included is based on currently known PFAS degradation techniques, including chemical redox systems that have been studied for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) defluorination, such as those that incorporate hydrated electrons, sulfate, peroxide, and metal catalysts. Bioremediation techniques are also discussed, namely the laccase and horseradish peroxidase systems. The redox potential of known reactants and enzymatic radicals/metal-complexes are then considered and compared to potential enzymes for degrading PFAS. The molecular structure and reaction cycle of prospective enzymes are explored. Current knowledge and techniques of enzyme design, particularly radical-generating enzymes, and application are also discussed. Finally, potential routes for bioengineering enzymes to enable or enhance PFAS remediation are considered as well as the future outlook for computational exploration of enzymatic in situ bioremediation routes for these highly persistent and globally distributed contaminants
