Feed plays an important role in determining the success of livestock businesses and also as a significant cost factor. Feed contributes 60%-80% of the total production costs. The types of feed could have different effects on the cost, efficiency, and productivity of livestock business. Some laying-hen farmers in Blitar District use two kinds of feed, semi self-mixed feed, and total self-mixed feed. This study was conducted to compare the use of two types of feed on the net revenue of laying hen farmers in Blitar Regency. The research used the survey method. The sample in this research consisted of 100 laying-hen farmers in Blitar Regency, 50 of them used semi self-mixing feed and the rest used total self-mixing feed. Data were collected from several laying hen farms in Blitar Regency with a survey method. All data were then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The average feed price of semi self-mixed feed and total self-mixed feeds were IDR 5,143.38 and IDR 4,854.91 per kg, respectively. The results showed that the feed price, cost of medication/vaccine, the amount of feed, and egg production for semi self-mixed feed farmers had significant effects on the net revenue of the farmer (p<0.05), with the average net revenue being IDR 12,785,471.68 per 1,000 birds/period. Whereas for total self-mixed feed, the medication/vaccine cost and feed amount had significant effects on the net revenue of the farmer (p<0.05), with the average net revenue being IDR 18,467,373.76 per 1,000 birds/period. As a conclusion, the total self-mixed feed showed more optimal net revenue of laying hen than semi self-mixed feed

Numerical Simulation of Bird Strike with Varied L/D Ratio in Hemispherical-ended Cylinder Bird Model Using Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian Method

    Get PDF
This research studies the numerical simulation of the finite element method for bird strike using a hemispherical-ended cylinder bird model with varying length-to-diameter (L/D) ratio, namely 1.4; 1.5; 1.6; 1.7; 1.8; 1.9; and 2.0. Birds are modelled with elastic, plastic, and hydrodynamic behaviour. The bird model uses the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method with impact speeds of 100 ms-1, 200 ms-1, and 300 ms-1. The simulation results show that the Hugoniot pressure value is around 15-36 times higher than stagnation pressure in L/D 1.4; 14-36 times in L/D 1.5; 13-30 times in L/D 1.6; 12-32 times in L/D 1.7; 12-26 times in L/D 1.8; 13-30 times in L/D 1.9; and 13-29 times in L/D 2.0. It was found that the highest Hugoniot and stagnation pressure were in L/D 1.5 and 1.8, while the lowest Hugoniot and stagnation pressure were in L/D 2.0 and 1.5, respectively. In addition, the error of the numerical results of the average Hugoniot and stagnation pressure value compared to the analytic was 2.9% and 7%, respectively.

A good quality of VeR is required in view of its important role inlitigation of a criminal offense. This study was aimed to understand the quality ofVeR of injury in Pekanbaru Arifin Achmad General Hospital during 1 January2009-31 December 2013. The research was an observational study usingdescriptive retrospective design. This study used Herkutanto\u27s scoring methodtowards 13 VeR substances. Samples of this study were all data of VeR of injurythat had fulfilled inclusion criteria. The total of samples were 150 samples of VeR.This study suggested that the highest number of living victims of injury cases was61 victims (40,7%) in age group 22-40 years old with the most frequent sex wasmale as many as 120 victims (80%). The most frequent violence was bluntviolence as many as 125 (83,3%) cases with the most frequent age group was 22-40 years old. Forest is a part of the ecosystem that provides environmental services. Deforestation may decrease forest function in an ecosystem. This study aims to build a spatial model of deforestation in a forest management unit (FMU) of Poigar. Deforestation analysis carried out by analyze the change of forest cover into non-forest cover with post classification comparison technique. Driving forces of deforestation carried out by spatial modeling using binary logistic regression models (LRM). Result of logistic regression model was used to predict the deforestation in 2013 and compare the prediction result with actual deforestation. The result showed that forest loss from the 2000 to 2013 period amounted 12,668.2 hectares. Deforestation in FMU of Poigar influenced by six factors there are distance from the road, distance from the settlement, distance from the river, population density, elevation and slope. Logistic regression model was built using five explanatory variables that are the distance from the road, distance from the river, population density, elevation and slope. Population density and accessibility is the most influented factor caused deforestation in FMU of Poigar. Prediction of deforestation could predict about 58 % of actual deforestation spatialy, so spatial models of deforestation could be an information to guidance on future management of FMU of Poigar

Sustainable tourism practices among hotels in Malaysia: financial and non-financial benefits

    Get PDF
The Sustainable Tourism Practice (STP) is one of the more recent practices within the hotel sector. One of the major reasons for hotels’ involvement in Sustainable Tourism Practices is to achieve some form of benefit. This paper attempts to highlight the significant benefits of STP for the hotel industry in Malaysia. It is believed that studies related to the contributing role of STP to the hotel industry in a developing country like Malaysia are relatively scarce. Therefore, this paper intends to bridge this knowledge gap by uncovering the benefits (i.e. financial and non-financial) hotels stand to reap in adopting various programmes which safeguard the environment. The study utilized the survey questionnaire method involving 60 hotel organisations in Kuala Lumpur and the state of Selangor. The study findings indicate the benefits of improved public image and the provision of safe and healthy environments to the hotel guests as the major benefit of hotels adopting STP. Unlike previous studies which identified financial contributions to the STP among hotels in developed countries, it appears that Malaysian hotels project their image to the guests after which it is expected that they will attract large patronage leading to financial gains. In conclusion, the results of this study have the potential of contributing to the knowledge as well as the hotel organisations
