Reaction of 2-amino-5-nitrophenylmercuric chloride with 3-nitro benzaldehyde gave 2-(3-nitrobenzylideneamino)-5-nitrophenylmercuric chloride (1). Reaction of the mercurated Schiff bases 1 with tellurium tetrabromide in 2:1 mole ratio gave the tellurated Schiff bases, bis[2-(3-nitrobenzylidineamino)-5-nitrophenyl] tellurium dibromide (2). Reduction of compound 2 by hydrazine hydrate gave the corresponding telluride, bis[2-(3-nitro benzylideneamino)-5-nitrophenyl]telluride (3). Complexation reactions of equilibrium mole ratios compound 3 with MnCl2.4H2O, CoCl2.6H2O and NiCl2.6H2O gave the corresponding complexes, i.e compounds 4-6, respectively. All the prepared compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements and 1H and 13C NMR, FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopic data. These data suggested that the compound 3 coordinate with metal ions as tridentate ligand. The molar conductivity study indicated compounds 1-3 are neutral and behave as non-electrolytes in DMSO solvent at room temperature while compounds 4-6 behave as 1:1 electrolytes in the same conditions. The molar ratio method was used to determine metal-ligand ratio, which was found as 1:1, metal: ligand. The thermal analysis of compounds 2 and 3 were also investigated and discussed

Mediating Role of Death Anxiety between Supernatural Beliefs and Life Satisfaction among Muslim Adults

The belief in supernatural forces is so pervasive in Pakistani society that it is nearly universal among illiterate and semi-literate people. Few literate individuals also subscribe to the idea of supernatural beings and entities. Such beliefs may invoke anxieties resulting in reduced satisfaction with life. In the current study, a cross-sectional survey of Muslim people was used to examine the potential mediation effect of death anxiety between supernatural beliefs and life satisfaction. A purposive sample (N = 220; with equal representation of both genders) of adults was recruited from different areas of district Sargodha. The supernatural Belief Scale, Arabic Scale of Death Anxiety, and Satisfaction with Life Scale were employed for assessing supernatural belief, death anxiety, and life satisfaction, respectively. Path analysis in Amos revealed the positive direct effect of supernatural belief on death anxiety and the negative direct effect of death anxiety on life satisfaction. Supernatural beliefs also demonstrated a negative indirect effect on life satisfaction through death anxiety. Overall, we found that individuals with supernatural beliefs were more likely to feel death anxiety, which might make them less satisfied with their life. Clinicians and mental health practitioners must envisage such therapeutic strategies as could counter the supernatural beliefs of the clients so that they might enjoy a more fulfilling and satisfying life

Background: Surgical problem known as Acute Cholecystitis is very common nowadays; however it may cause trouble in diagnosing when person has situs inversus, (i.e.) viscera situated on the opposite side of the body. Our case report discusses the history and physical exam findings, images of radiograph, diagnosis, and how we dealt with cholecystitis in situs inversus with dextrocardia.Case Presentation: An eighty-six yrs. old male having pain in the upper left hypochondrium region, presented in emergency department. He was later diagnosed to have acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder) with cholelithiasis (presence of gallstones in gallbladder) in situs inversus totalis. Patient underwent elective open cholecystectomy within 24 h. Patient recovered well and was discharged on fourth postoperative day. Conclusion: Acute cholecystitis in Situs Inversus with Dextrocardia is very rare congenital anomaly and requires great expertise in the field of surgery to operate on these patients because of the reverse anatomy of the organs

Successful use of rituximab in Evans syndrome and refractory immune thrombocytopenic purpura

Immune cytopenias are mediated by auto-antibodies produced by B-lymphocytes. Conventional treatment of immune-mediated haematological disorders includes immunosuppression with steroids and other immune modulating therapies and in some refractory cases, splenectomy. Response rates to conventional and second-line agents are variable and a proportion of patients require lifelong immunosuppression to maintain the disease in remission. Rituximab, an anti- CD 20 monoclonal antibody has gained widespread acceptance in the management of B-cell malignancies. Additionally, it has been used to treat the disorders associated with autoantibody production. We report herein the successful use of Rituximab in the treatment of two patients with autoimmune cytopenias one had Evan\u27s syndrome and other had refractory immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Both of these patients are still in remission at 16 and 25 months following treatment

    Get PDF
The present research aimed at examining the role of mindfulness and psychological wellbeing in the relationship between external locus of control and depression. Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (Baer, 2003), Ryff Scale of Wellbeing (Ryff, 1989), DAAS Depression Subscale (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995), and Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale (Rotter, 1966) were administered on a convenient sample of three hundred and four (N=304) adults of Sargodha city (Punjab, Pakistan) to operationalize mindfulness, psychological wellbeing, depression, and external locus of control respectively. Results revealed that external locus of control had positive relationship with mindfulness whereas mindfulness and psychological wellbeing were negatively related with depression. Mindfulness fully mediated between external locus of control and depression. Psychological wellbeing moderated between mindfulness and depression by dampening their negative relationship. Moderated mediation analysis was undertaken through PROCESS macro for SPSS (Hayes, 2013), which revealed that conditional indirect relationship of external locus of control with depression was significant only at lower to moderate levels of psychological wellbeing. Implications of the study and suggestions for further research were discussed
