The paper investigates the perception of Nigerian executives on the impact of flextime on organizational performance. Effort is made to explore the attitudinal disposition of employees towards flextime and how gender affects employee satisfaction with flexitime. The study, based on administered questionnaires as the main medium for data collection from managers in private sector of the Nigerian economy, utilizes correlations and multi-variate regression analysis to determine variables that significantly contribute to manager’s satisfaction with flexible work arrangement. The study finds that marital status and gender exert significant negative impact on level of satisfaction with flexitime. In addition, gender, marital status and motivation capabilities of flexitime were found to be a significant determinant of satisfaction with flexitime. Therefore, given the cultural context of the study it does appear that organizations might find it profitable to adopt a flexitime policy so as to relieve their employees some family or domestic burden with the attendant motivation benefit that increases employee performance

    Get PDF
There is a growing awareness of the pivotal role of technology in securing and maximizing competitive positions. This study based on primary data from two banks in Nigeria examines the relationship between technology policy and strategy dimensions. Differentiation and futurity strategy dimensions were found to be marginally dominant in the managerial practices of these firms. In addition, the study found new evidence of relationship between the strategy dimensions; and the pattern of relationship between technology policy and strategic orientations indicate the use technology to foster defensive behaviours rather than securing competitive edge. Futurity orientation was also found not to be significantly related with most of the technology policy dimensions investigated. These results are expected to provide management and management theorists with valuable practical insight into the relationship between pattern of strategic orientation and technology policy

Glass-Ceiling and Female Career Advancement: A Study of the Nigeria Police

    Get PDF
Despite the remarkable increase in the existence of women in the workforce, the entry of women into higher managerial positions remains restricted. Various studies have confirmed this fact. This phenomenon of hampering women’s upward advancement to senior management positions has been referred to as the glass ceiling effect. This empirical survey shows results of the effect of glass ceiling on female career advancement in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The statistical analysis was based on 198 respondents in the NPF indicating cultural role expected of the female gender makes a significant predictor of the female career advancement. Also, career plan and higher education make significant contributions to the studied dependent construct. The effect of counterproductive male behaviour contributed positively but did not make significant statistical contribution to the prediction of the survey dependent construct. However, it is therefore recommended that organizations (both private & public) embark on enlightenment campaign and also incorporate equal opportunity employment policy in their company or organizational policie

The effect of coefficient quantization optimization on filtering performance and gate count

Abstract. Digital filters are an essential component of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications and play a crucial role in removing unwanted signal components from a desired signal. However, digital filters are known to be resource-intensive and consume a large amount of power, making it important to optimize their design in order to minimize hardware requirements such as multipliers, adders, and registers. This trade-off between filter performance and hardware consumption can be influenced by the quantization of filter coefficients. Therefore, this thesis investigates the quantization of Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter coefficients and analyzes its impact on filter performance and hardware resource consumption. A method called dynamic quantization is introduced and an algorithm for step-by-step dynamic quantization is provided to improve upon the results obtained with the classical fixed point quantization method. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach, the dynamic quantization of filter coefficients for a Low-pass Equiripple FIR filter is examined and a comparative study of the magnitude response and hardware consumption of the generated filter using both the classical and dynamic quantization methods is presented. By understanding the trade-offs and benefits of each quantization method, engineers can make informed decisions about the most appropriate approach for their specific application

The concept of perceived job insecurity has been shown to be detrimental for various psychological and health-related outcomes including the effective functioning of business organizations. While most researches have examined the detrimental outcome of this workplace phenomenon from the standpoint of the individual employees and its associated organizational outcome, scanty knowledge exist on the multiplying effect of perceived job insecurity on the larger socio-economic environment and the society at large. This paper examines the overall effect of perceived job insecurity taking into consideration, its overall effects on the individual, organization, and the society. Making use of secondary data from the literature and relevant theories, it was discovered that the effect of perceived job insecurity if not properly addressed, goes beyond the enclave of employees health functioning and its associated organizational dysfunction but can also translate into various forms of adverse social and economic consequences for the society and countries at large. In view of this discovery, recommendations were made for organizations, relevant institutions and government bodies to design a framework that encompasses those institutional and organizational policies that can limit the incidence of perceived job insecurity within the workplace

With the realization that the traditional marketing Ps can no longer provide the competitive edge that is so much needed in today’s fast changing business landscape, being characterized by creativity and innovation, business leaders have started shifting their focus to those customer relationship tactics which they assume will earn them the ability to attract different customer segments while at the same time retaining them to advance organizational profitability. This paper investigates the concept of customer loyalty among the subscribers of Mobile telecommunication in Nigeria. It x-rays the predicting power of Gender, Age Group, Income level and Education on the tendency of subscribers to remain loyal to their mobile phone service providers. Making use three hundred and ninety (390) respondents who are conveniently selected from eight geographical clusters, of Kano metropolitan areas, responses were generated from the subscribers of four major telecommunication company in Nigeria through close ended and structured questionnaire. furthermore, the independent T-test of difference and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed as statistical test while the results obtained indicated that all the demographical characteristics considered does not have any significant predicting power on customer loyalty. In other words, a significant difference does not exist in customer loyalty among the subscribers according to their demographic characteristics: Gender, Age group, Income level and education. In the light of these findings, it was recommended that telecom companies should ensure that their customer loyalty campaigns and resources are extended to all customer groups regardless of these critical demographic characteristics in that such action will result in an optimum customer loyalty, more prudent use of marketing resources, and an un-necessary wastage of these resources. Keywords: Customer Loyalty, Gender, Age Group, Income Level, Education

    Get PDF
A major requirement of any computer network is scalability. This can be as a result of increase in the number of users, upgrading due to technological advancement, additional services, or the need for performance improvement. This will inevitably require changing infrastructure, deploying new applications, and dealing with security which definitely touches both hardware and software, in the sense that, the complexities of the hardware, software and firmware increase with the attendant growth of the network and maintainability. However, for the network to remain reliable and efficient, it is necessary that, implementation and administration of it requires a means of monitoring both the model of the network structures and processes occurring in them. The efficiency and throughput of the network depend on improving the effectiveness of data transmission carried out by the network protocols. This paper discusses the use of a protocol to meet the technological challenge towards improving the performance and throughput of a wireless network based on effective data transmission

The daytime composition and relative abundance of zooplankton species were studied in three treatments of two replicate earthen ponds each with nutrient sources and water replenishment regimes. Treatment -A (200m super(2) surface area supplied 900kgha super(-1) pig manure only). Treatment -B (200m super(2) surface area supplied 70kgha super(-1) month super(-1) pig manure, 50kgha super(-1) month super(-1) N.P.K. [15:15:15] and 30kgha super(-1) month super(-1) Urea) and Treatment-C (1500m2 surface area supplied 1150kgha super(-1) month super(-1) commercial grade 40% crude protein compounded feed). Water replenishment for Treatment A was daily tidal deluge from the New Calabar River while that for treatment B and C was from column-well and occasional rains. No zooplankton species were recovered from the pig-manure only treatment (A) while only Diffugia constricta and Difflugia urceolata were the two protozoans that occurred together in treatments B (combined fertilization) and C (compounded feed only) in contrast, Difflugia acuminate and three rotifers, Collurella uncinata, Diurella stylata and Keratella quadrata occurred only treatment B. similarly, Arcella arenaria, Arcella costata, Centropyxis aculeate, Difflugia pyriformis, Branchionus calyciflorus, Lepadella patella, Polyarthra trigla and Onchocanmptus mohammedi were recovered from treatment C. Arcella costata was the most abundant zooplankton in the entire experiment, while Arcella arenaria was very abundant in treatment C, Collurella uncinata was very abundant in treatment B. The inference is that combined fertilization of earthen freshwater ponds tend to be more suitable for the culture of rotifers such as Brachionus calyciflorus, popular in fish larva nursery, while those supplied compounded feed could be used to produce protozoans where desirabl
