Generalizing about trade show effectiveness: a cross-national comparison.
Trade shows are a multi-billion dollar business in the US and the UK, but little is known about the determinants of trade show effectiveness. In this paper, we build a model that explains differences in trade show effectiveness across industries, across companies and across two countries. We focus on the differences in trade show effectiveness measured in a similar way across similar samples of 171 US and 135 UK firm-show experiences between 1980 and 1991. While the similarities outweigh the differences, we find evidence that trade shows are viewed differently by exhibitors and attendees in these two countries. We are able to make substantial generalizations about the effect of various show selection (go-not go) variables (booth size, personnel, etc.) on observed performance. We discuss the implications of our research for developing benchmarks for trade show performance and for better global management of the business marketing communications mix.Effectiveness; Trade;
Three-Flavour Neutrino-Mixing Implications of the LSND Result
The LSND result is shown to fit into a minimal three-flavour neutrino-mixing
scenario capable of describing all known experimental facts provided the large
Delta M^2 = m_3^2 - m_2^2 \sim m_3^2 - m_1^2 lies in the range 2.5 x 10^{-1} <
Delta M^2 < 3.0 eV^2. In this range the value of P_{\mu\tau} is expected to be

The CORSAGE Programme: Continuous Orbital Remote Sensing of Archipelagic Geochemical Effects
Current and pending oceanographic remote sensing technology allows the conceptualization of a programme designed to investigate ocean island interactions that could induce short-term nearshore fluxes of particulate organic carbon and biogenic calcium carbonate from pelagic island archipelagoes. These events will influence the geochemistry of adjacent waters, particularly the marine carbon system. Justification and design are provided for a study that would combine oceanographic satellite remote sensing (visible and infrared radiometry, altimetry and scatterometry) with shore-based facilities. A programme incorporating the methodology outlined here would seek to identify the mechanisms that cause such events, assess their geochemical significance, and provide both analytical and predictive capabilities for observations on greater temporal and spatial scales
MSW mediated neutrino decay and the solar neutrino problem
We investigate the solar neutrino problem assuming simultaneous presence of
MSW transitions in the sun and neutrino decay on the way from sun to earth. We
do a global -analysis of the data on total rates in Cl, Ga and
Superkamiokande (SK) experiments and the SK day-night spectrum data and
determine the changes in the allowed region in the \dm - \tan^2\theta plane
in presence of decay. We also discuss the implications for unstable neutrinos

Neutrino Decay as an Explanation of Atmospheric Neutrino Observations
We show that the observed zenith angle dependence of the atmospheric
neutrinos can be accounted for by neutrino decay. Furthermore, it is possible

The HI shell G132.6-0.7-25.3: A Supernova Remnant or an Old Wind-Blown Bubble?
Data from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey reveal an abundance of HI shells
and arcs in the disk of our galaxy. While their shape is suggestive of stellar
winds or supernovae influence, very few of these structures have been examined
in detail thus far. A fine example is an HI shell in the outer Galaxy with no
continuum counterpart discovered in the survey's pilot project. Its size and
kinematics suggest that it was created by the winds of a single late-type O
star which has since evolved off the main sequence or by a supernova explosion.
A B1 Ia star at the centre of the shell, in projection, is a possible candidate
for energy source if the shell is assumed to be wind-blown. The shell's shape
implies a surprisingly small scale height of less than about 30 pc for the
surrounding gas if the elongation is due to evolution in a density gradient.Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication in the Astronomical

Neutrino Anomalies without Oscillations
I review explanations for the three neutrino anomalies (solar, atmospheric
and LSND) which go beyond the ``conventional'' neutrino oscillations induced by

Muon-anti-neutrino <---> electron-anti-neutrino mixing: analysis of recent indications and implications for neutrino oscillation phenomenology
We reanalyze the recent data from the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector
(LSND) experiment, that might indicate anti-nu_muanti-nu_e mixing. This
indication is not completely excluded by the negative results of established
accelerator and reactor neutrino oscillation searches. We quantify the region
of compatibility by means of a thorough statistical analysis of all the
available data, assuming both two-flavor and three-flavor neutrino
oscillations. The implications for various theoretical scenarios and for future
oscillation searches are studied. The relaxation of the LSND constraints under
