    Why Do We Need to Reform Higher Education Management in Palestine?

    This study aims at evaluating the current status quo of higher education in Palestine. It anticipates the challenges facing the higher education sector in terms of management and administration. This qualitative study was conducted by interviewing 17 of those working in senior leadership positions in higher education institutions. The study finds an urgent need for management reform. The study anticipates a vast number of challenges in terms of higher education institutions’ administration where the majority of Palestinian universities suffer from an identity crisis. The study recommends the need to formulate a management reform model based on the anticipated challenges

    Reflections on higher education institutions responses intra-period COVID-19: A road towards a new normal in Arab universities

    While the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact, the new normal era becomes the latest universal issue to be discussed. Hence, most Arab countries are still categorized as developing countries, this stipulates the need to provide deep discussion on the typology of the types of responses currently undertaken by their higher education institutions. This can assess their agility in preparing for the intra-pandemic period and the unprecedented future disruption. This paper aims to give reflections on the adopted practices in Arab higher education institutions in response to COVID-19 disruption. It also aims to utilize the success indicators and challenges encountering these universities in a way to propose recommendations to shape the new normal era forward. In this study, a desktop analysis, leveraging six Arab universities websites and governments’ sources, was conducted wherein systematic literature, policy documents, as well as related procedures targeting COVID-19 and higher education were reviewed. The results indicate that, throughout the uncertainties of COVID-19, Arab higher education institutions continuously strive to deliver high quality of teaching and learning through employing consistent high-tech procedures entitling government legislations, education management, curriculum, scientific research and stakeholders’ collaboration

    Abstract: Consumtion abroad is one of the real impacts of globalization, there is a movement of consumers going abroad and have non-resident status where services are consumed, including higher education. In Indonesia, economic growth is influenced by the level of education and technology, both of which converge in the classroom teaching and learning. Higher education has a strategic role to play in meeting education and technology in the teaching and learning classroom. The factors of knowledge and power, domestic politics, in education have a lot of influence on the development direction of this strategic field. Considered and careful strategic leadership, preserving distinctiveness, and promoting equality among cultures are the long-term commercial interests of higher education, as well as offering individual and social benefits. Key words: Consumption Abroad; technological developments; changes in strategic leadership Abstrak: Consumtion abroad merupakan salah satu dampak globalisasi yang nyata, terjadi arus perpindahan konsumen pergi ke luar negeri dan berstatus bukan penduduk dimana jasa dikonsumsi, termasuk pendidikan tinggi. Di Indonesia, pertumbuhan ekonomi dipengaruhi oleh tingkat pendidikan dan teknologi, keduanya bertemu di dalam kelas pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Pendidikan tinggi memiliki peran strategis terhadap pertemuan pendidikan dan teknologi dalam kelas pengajaran dan pembelajaran tersebut. Faktor-faktor pengetahuan dan kuasa, politik domestik, dalam pendidikan banyak memberikan pengaruh terhadap arah pengembangan bidang strategis tersebut. Kepemimpinan strategis yang dipertimbangkan dan berhati-hati, menjaga kekhasan, dan mempromosikan kesetaraan di antara budaya adalah kepentingan komersial jangka panjang dari pendidikan tinggi, serta menawarkan manfaat individu dan sosial. Kata kunci: Consumption abroad; perkembangan teknologi; perubahan kepemimpinan strategis

    Esta tesis aborda la tematica del tiempo. No es nuestro objetivo explicar aquí que es el tiempo ni hacer un recorrido por la historia de las ideas que lo abordan sino que nos proponemos plantear una investigación que indague sobre los mecanismos mentales que se ponen en marcha cada vez que debemos procesar información lingüística temporal. Y es por esto que la tesis se desarrolla en el marco de la psicolingüística, disciplina que se ocupa de estudiar los procesos que median la producción y comprensión del lenguaje. Hoy el enlace mente /cerebro y lenguaje esta en su apogeo: cómo la mente procesa el lenguaje qué áreas neuronales lo sustentan, qué ocurre cuando se produce un daño que afecta dichas áreas, son algunos de los interrogantes que la (psico) neurolingüística se ha planteado. Y el denominador común de estos cuestionamientos es la concepción del lenguaje como capacidad cognitiva que forma parte de la maquinaria biológica de nuestra especie y que tiene una representación física en el cerebro.     Reading response latencies in Spanish: effects of lexicality and frequency

    The aim of this work was to design and apply a test of reading words and non-words (PaNoPa) to study the response latencies in Spanish-speaking subjects. A single previous study had reported such effects but the test used did not control lexical variables (number and frequency of orthographic neighbors) or sublexical variables (frequency of bigram and initial phonemes) that are important for the correct analysis of latencies. The study of effects of lexicality and frequency in control participants is relevant for the discussion on the universality of psycholinguistic reading models and also for the characterization of reading disorders due to brain lesions (acquired dyslexia) in Spanish-speaking subjects. With an exhaustively controlled test, reading latencies were obtained in a sample of Spanish-speaking readers and an ANOVA analysis was carried out by subject and by type of stimulus. The results showed significantly lower latencies for words with respect to non-words (lexicality effect) and for frequent words regarding infrequent words (frequency effect). A significant difference was also found between the latencies of the infrequent words and the non-words. These findings provide evidence in favor of the existence of a lexical reading route in a transparent language such as Spanish and provide a tool and data for the psycholinguistic study of the reading alterations of Spanish-speaking subjects with acquired dyslexia
