Multi-directional gated recurrent unit and convolutional neural network for load and energy forecasting: A novel hybridization

    Get PDF
Energy operations and schedules are significantly impacted by load and energy forecasting systems. An effective system is a requirement for a sustainable and equitable environment. Additionally, a trustworthy forecasting management system enhances the resilience of power systems by cutting power and load-forecast flaws. However, due to the numerous inherent nonlinear properties of huge and diverse data, the classical statistical methodology cannot appropriately learn this non-linearity in data. Energy systems can appropriately evaluate data and regulate energy consumption because of advanced techniques. In comparison to machine learning, deep learning techniques have lately been used to predict energy consumption as well as to learn long-term dependencies. In this work, a fusion of novel multi-directional gated recurrent unit (MD-GRU) with convolutional neural network (CNN) using global average pooling (GAP) as hybridization is being proposed for load and energy forecasting. The spatial and temporal aspects, along with the high dimensionality of the data, are addressed by employing the capabilities of MD-GRU and CNN integration. The obtained results are compared to baseline algorithms including CNN, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), and Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (Bi-GRU). The experimental findings indicate that the proposed approach surpasses conventional approaches in terms of accuracy, Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Root Mean Square Error (RSME).</p> </abstract&gt

Structural insight into the TRIAP1/PRELI-like domain family of mitochondrial phospholipid transfer complexes

The composition of the mitochondrial membrane is important for its architecture and proper function. Mitochondria depend on a tightly regulated supply of phospholipid via intra-mitochondrial synthesis and by direct import from the endoplasmic reticulum. The Ups1/PRELI-like family together with its mitochondrial chaperones (TRIAP1/Mdm35) represent a unique heterodimeric lipid transfer system that is evolutionary conserved from yeast to man. Work presented here provides new atomic resolution insight into the function of a human member of this system. Crystal structures of free TRIAP1 and the TRIAP1–SLMO1 complex reveal how the PRELI domain is chaperoned during import into the intermembrane mitochondrial space. The structural resemblance of PRELI-like domain of SLMO1 with that of mammalian phoshatidylinositol transfer proteins (PITPs) suggest that they share similar lipid transfer mechanisms, in which access to a buried phospholipid-binding cavity is regulated by conformationally adaptable loops

Demonstration of GaN-on-silicon material system operating up to 3 kilovolts with reduced trapping effects

International audienceWe report on the first demonstration of low trapping effects up to 3000 V within GaN-on-silicon epitaxial layers using a local substrate removal (LSR) followed by a thick backside ultra-wide-bandgap AlN deposition. The fabricated AlGaN/GaN devices deliver low specific on-resistance below 10 mΩcm 2 together with unprecedented 3-terminal blocking voltage while substrate ramp measurements show reduced hysteresis up to 3000 V. These results pave the way for beyond 1200 V applications using large wafer diameter GaN-on-Si high electron mobility transistors

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the predictive value of serum level of interleukin 31 (IL31) in diagnosis of osteoporosis (OP) in postmenopausal women. Methods: This case–control study was conducted on 80 individuals, 50 of them with postmenopausal OP diagnosed using dual X-ray absorptiometry study, and the other 30 were healthy postmenopausal female controls. Serum level of IL31 was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique in both groups. Results: The mean age of patients was 65.3±4.8 years and controls was 61.1±3.9 years. Mean serum IL31 level was significantly higher among postmenopausal patients with OP compared to healthy controls (83.5±34.2 vs. 34.9±7.3ng/ml, p<0.05). The optimum cutoff value of serum IL31 that can differentiate between patients with OP in postmenopausal women from controls was >44.51 ng/ml with perfect positive predictive value (PPV) (100%), very high accuracy of 92.5%, 88% sensitivity, 100% specificity, and negative predictive value (NPV) 83.3%.Conclusions: Serum IL31 level was significantly higher in postmenopausal osteoporotic women compared to healthy controls. It was a valid measure with high accuracy and perfect PPV and specificity, high sensitivity, and NPV. It can be used to confirm the diagnosis of OP in postmenopausal women

Mots clés : mucocèle ; enfant ; TDM ; IRM ; chirurgieMucoceles are pseudo-cystic expansive formations of the sinuses. Hydatid cysts located in the interatrial septum are especially rare but when they occur, they might cause intracavity rupture. We report on a patient with acute pulmonary embolism caused by an isolated, ruptured hydatid cyst on the right side of the interatrial septum. A 16-year-old-boy with an uneventful history was hospitalized for exercise-induced dyspnea and blood expectorations. Multiple and bilateral opacities were visualized on standard chest x-ray. Signs of right-sided hypertrophy were seen on ECG. Imaging findings led to the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism complicating cardiac hydatid cysts. An operation was performed through median sternotomy to remove the cardiac cyst. The pleural cavity was entered through the fifth intercostal space to withdraw lung hydatid cysts. Operative recovery was uneventful and the patient resumed his normal activities 19 months later. Prompt diagnosis and an appropriate surgical treatment prevented a potentially fatal outcome.Key words: Echinococcosis, Hydatidosis, Pulmonary embolism, cardiac, hydatid cys
