Hidden gauge structure and derivation of microcanonical ensemble theory of bosons from quantum principles

Microcanonical ensemble theory of bosons is derived from quantum mechanics by making use of a hidden gauge structure. The relative phase interaction associated with this gauge structure, described by the Pegg-Barnett formalism, is shown to lead to perfect decoherence in the thermodynamics limit and the principle of equal a priori probability, simultaneously.Comment: 10 page

Quantum Statistical Effects on Fusion Dynamics of Heavy-Ions

    Get PDF
In order to describe the fusion of two very heavy nuclei at near barrier energies, a generalized Langevin approach is proposed, which incorporates the quantum statistical fluctuations in accordance with the fluctuation and dissipation theorem. It is illustrated that the quantum statistical effects introduce an enhancement of the formation of compound nucleus, though the quantum enhancement is somewhat less pronounced as indicated in the previous calculations.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figure

Does gravitational wave propagate in the five dimensional space-time with Kaluza-Klein monopole?

    Get PDF
The behavior of small perturbations around the Kaluza-Klein monopole in the five dimensional space-time is investigated. The fact that the odd parity gravitational wave does not propagate in the five dimensional space-time with Kaluza-Klein monopole is found provided that the gravitational wave is constant in the fifth direction.Comment: 10 @ages, LATE

Nonadditive measure and quantum entanglement in a class of mixed states of N^n-system

Through the generalization of Khinchin's classical axiomatic foundation, a basis is developed for nonadditive information theory. The classical nonadditive conditional entropy indexed by the positive parameter q is introduced and then translated into quantum information. This quantity is nonnegative for classically correlated states but can take negative values for entangled mixed states. This property is used to study quantum entanglement in the parametrized Werner-Popescu-like state of an N^n-system, that is, an n-partite N-level system. It is shown how the strongest limitation on validity of local realism (i.e., separability of the state) can be obtained in a novel manner

The legal framework for the institutionalisation of international commercial arbitration in Nigeria: a critical review

    Get PDF
Considering the need to enhance commercial activities in Nigeria and the indisputable right of international parties to resolve disputes through arbitration, the desire for Nigeria to sign and ratify the New York Convention cannot be over emphasized. Unquestionably, the administration of justice through our regular courts is usually beleaguered with delays for diverse reasons. An attempt to combat these delays and ensure swifter dispensation of justice has seen the emergence of arbitration in its effective use in Nigeria. The need for speed, resulting in more efficiency and economy in contract drafting, has always dominated international commercial transactions. Thus, the need for resorting to arbitration is more compelling considering the lethargic attitude of Nigerian courts to the resolution of sophisticated commercial disputes. This paper seeks to examine the mechanisms through which there has been an implantation and implementation of international commercial arbitration legal regime in Nigeria. The work attempts a critical analysis of relevant extant laws in use in Nigeria and the effectiveness as well as efficiency of these laws. A detailed explication of the different international legal regime of commercial arbitration has been highlighted with the ultimate aim of adverting Nigerian as bedrock of sustainable resolution of commercial disputes through the instrumentality of arbitration in sub-Saharan Africa. The work thus queries the receptive nature of our national courts towards the enforcement of foreign arbitral award. Keywords: International Commercial Arbitration, New York Convention, Enforcement, Nigeri

New Observables for Parity Violation in Atoms: Energy Shifts in External Electric Fields

    Get PDF
We consider hydrogen-like atoms in unstable levels of principal quantum number n=2, confined to a finite size region in a non-homogeneous electric field carrying handedness. The interplay between the internal degrees of freedom of the atoms and the external ones of their c.m. motion can produce P-odd contributions to the eigenenergies. The nominal order of such shifts is 10^-8 Hz. Typically such energy shifts depend linearly on the small P-violation parameters delta_i similarequal 10^-12 (i=1,2), essentially the ratios of the P-violating mixing matrix elements of the 2S and 2P states over the Lamb shift, with i=1 (i=2) corresponding to the nuclear spin independent (dependent) term. We show how such energy shifts can be enhanced by a factor of similarequal 10^6 in a resonance like way for special field configurations where a crossing of unstable levels occurs, leading to P-violating effects proportional to squareroot{delta_i}. Measurements of such effects can give information concerning the ``spin crisis'' of the nucleons.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, LaTeX, submitted to Phys. Lett.

A Comparison of Students’ Attitudinal Variables towards Mathematics between Private and Public Senior Secondary Schools

    Get PDF
The study investigated a comparison of students’ attitudinal variables towards Mathematics between Private and Public Senior Secondary Schools Two (SS II) in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Four hundred students were randomly selected and twenty (20) students were purposively selected from twenty (20) schools which comprised of Ten (10) schools each from Private and Public schools. Two general questions were formulated and answered descriptively while four hypotheses in the study were tested using t-test statistic. The results showed that, most teachers in the sampled schools were teaching Mathematics without audio-visual materials that could arose the interest and attitude of students towards Mathematics. There was no significant difference in the interest and attitude of students towards mathematics in private and public school while significant difference existed between the attitude of male and female students and also between the attitude of teachers in private and public schools at p<0.05. The study recommended that female students’ interest and attitude should be geared towards mathematics through regular advise by the Mathematics teachers while public schools teachers should be motivated through the State Ministry of Education to the State Government by increasing the Mathematics teachers’ allowance. This may improve the morale towards the teaching of Mathematics in Public schools in the State and Nigeria as a whole. Keywords: Attitude, Interest, Students, Teachers, Private and Public Schools

On Forward J/\psi Production at Fermilab Tevatron

The D0 Collaboration has recently reported the measurement of J/\psi production at low angle. We show here that the inclusion of color octet contributions in any framework is able to reproduce this data.Comment: 1 page, Revtex, uses epsfig.sty, 2 postscript figure
