Utilizing multifaceted requirement traceability approach: a case study

    Get PDF
Software evolution is inevitable. When a system evolves, there are certain relationships among software artifacts that must be maintained. Requirement traceability is one of the important factors in facilitating software evolution since it maintains the artifacts relationship before and after a change is performed. Requirement traceability can be expensive activities. Many researchers have addressed the problem of requirement traceability, especially to support software evolution activities. Yet, the evaluation results of these approaches show that most of them typically provide only limited support to software evolution. Based on the problems of requirement traceability, we have identified three directions that are important for traceability to support software evolution, i.e. process automation, procedure simplicity, and best results achievement. Those three directions are addressed in our multifaceted approach of requirement traceability. This approach utilizes three facets to generate links between artifacts, i.e. syntactical similarity matching, link prioritization, and heuristic-list based processes. This paper proposes the utilization of multifaceted approach to traceability generation and recovery in facilitating software evolution process. The complete experiment has been applied in a real case study. The results show that utilization of these three facets in generating the traceability among artifacts is better than the existing approach, especially in terms of its accuracy

A new approach of algorithm based on the Mark Acree’s theory, focusing on fingerprint global extracted features is proposed and implemented for enhancing gender classification method. This proposed method can automatically execute the ridge calculation process from the 25mm2 fingerprint and enhance the forensic gender classification process. In this study, a relationship between fingerprint global features and a gender of person in Malaysian population is also explored, enhanced and improved by exploiting another five additional fingerprint features. A sample of 3000 fingerprints from 300 respondents of random selection are carefully taken before any relationship can be determined. For the classification part, five extracted features of the fingerprint are used which are Ridge Density (RD), Mean Ridge Count (RC), Ridge Thickness to Valley Thickness Ratio (RTVTR), White Lines Count (WLC) and Mean Pattern Types (PT). Two classification approaches which are the descriptive statistical and data mining are used in order to examine the classification of the gender by using the five extracted features. For data mining classification part, there are four popular machine learning classifiers used which are Bayesian Net.work (Bayes Net.), Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network (MLPNN), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). These four classifiers are used in the data mining task with five test cases each in order to find the accuracies of the gender classification. The accuracy of the results from the proposed method is compared to the Acree Method is shown in terms of relative error. For statistical approach using Ridge Density (RD), the relative error is 3.7% for male respondent and 4.1% for female respondent. Meanwhile, the overall performance of the result from the proposed method achieved more than 90% classification rate for all the classifiers. SVM emerges as the best classifier for all the different cases in order to classify the gender using the results from the proposed method

Fiber reinforced polymer is the most effective repair material in use to enhance the strength and ductility of deteriorated reinforced concrete columns. Often, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) provides passive confinement to columns until the dilation and cracking of concrete occurs. In the case of concrete suspected of Alkali Aggregate Reaction (AAR) where concrete undergoes expansion, FRP wrap provides active confinement to the expanded concrete. In this study, the performance of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) wrapped columns damaged by AAR is evaluated based on the number of FRP layers and the time of the polymer application which provides two types of confinement: active or passive. The columns were tested under axial compression to evaluate the residual strength of the columns in comparison with unwrapped columns. The results reveal that the strength of the wrapped columns is enhanced with an increase in the number of CFRP layers. The strength of the columns under passive confinement is higher than the columns under active confinement. Under active confinement, early CFRP wrapping leads to improvement in the strength of the columns
