Corporate diversification and financial performance : a literature review
The impact of corporate diversification on financial performance has been subject of some studies from the past. In addition, scholars found positive or negative relationship between the two variables. However, there are some theories and motivation which explain the part of relationship that state in this paper. In this paper, we try to show measurement of diversification and summary of related studies
Usability evaluation successful factors (SFs) framework through entrepreneurship program at community college Malaysia: modified norminal group technique approach
This paper discusses the success factors (SFs) of the entrepreneurship programme available in Malaysian community colleges. The benefit of the Modified Nominal Group Technique (NGT) approach carried out aims to achieve understanding of the usability test and evaluation of the SFs framework. The objective of this study is to identify the usability and evaluation of lecturers on the elements of entrepreneurship for four domain areas, strategy, environment, temporal and industry. The analysis covers the importance of SFs framework development, which determines the type of framework to use as reference in carrying out the entrepreneurship programme in Malaysian community colleges. In the usability test and evaluation process, 21 experts were chosen from three types of community college, from whom seven lecturers were allocated to each programme based on the understanding of the lecturers. Questionnaires were distributed to seek lecturer consensus. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 was used to analyse and find the percentage of consensus for each domain within the framework. This was to find the percentage of expert consensus against the SFs framework. The result of the analysis shows more than 75% acceptance and consensus for the functionality of SFs. Basically, this analysis is capable of providing reference and guidelines for the development of a SFs framework. Therefore, the analysis is able to provide information and reference for future researchers to explore the domain of entrepreneurship

Simulation of hydrogen production for mobile fuel cell applications via autothermal reforming of methane
This paper presents a simulation of catalytic autothermal reforming (ATR) of methane (CH4) for hydrogen (H2) production. ATR is essentially an oxidative steam reforming, which combines the exothermic partial oxidation (PO) with the endothermic steam reforming (SR) under thermally neutral conditions. A model is developed using HYSYS 2004.1 to simulate the conversion behavior of the reformer. The model covers all aspects of major chemical kinetics and heat and mass transfer phenomena in the reformer. The ATR and preferential oxidation (PrOx) processes is modeled using conversion reactor, while the water gas shift (WGS) process is modeled using equilibrium reactor within HYSYS environment. The conditions used for high CH4 conversion and high H2 yield are at air to fuel ratio of 2.5 and water to fuel ratio of 1.5. Under this condition, CH4 conversion of 100% and H2 yield of 44% on wet basis can be achieved and the system efficiency is about 87.7%

Problem-based learning in facilities planning: a pilot implementation
In Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Problem Based Learning (PBL) is proposed as an alternative to lectures in moulding engineering graduates to acquire attributes that are required to excel in today’s k-economy. To investigate if PBL is viable for undergraduates in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, a pilot implementation of PBL in Facilities Planning, a subject required for final year Mechanical Engineering undergraduates with specialization in Industrial Engineering was executed. With 60 students in the class, the whole syllabus of the subject was covered using three main PBL problems. PBL was conducted with the help of industrial partners: a semiconductor company, and a furniture factory. The outcome of the implementation was highly encouraging. Students were able to illustrate good understanding of the content, while progressively exhibiting maturity in their generic skills, such as communication, team-working, self-directed learning and problem-solving. However, several aspects of the execution can be further improved
The effects of sense of meaningfulness and teaching role attributes on work outcomes – using the insight of job characteristics model
The present study sought to examine the effects of teaching role attributes and sense of meaningfulness to work outcomes. In previous studies that examined the relationship between job attributes and work outcomes, the mediating variable was underrepresented and excluded from the model. Teaching role attributes was measured by combining four major teaching roles (pedagogical, managerial, technical and subject-designing) into an index. The work outcomes examined were internal motivation, job satisfaction and perceived work effectiveness. Sense of meaningfulness was hypothesized as the mediating variable in the relationship between teaching role attributes and the work outcomes. Two hundred and ninety two lecturers teaching in Malaysia tertiary educations were involved in this study. Questionnaires were used to solicit their responses which were distributed using various means; online, personal visits and regular mails.
The measurement items were mainly adapted from Job Diagnostic Survey. The results from the
findings indicated that sense of meaningfulness mediated the relationships between teaching role
attributes and the work outcomes. It showed that to maximize teachers work outcomes, they
must experience the sense of meaningfulness in their jobs
The relationships between technology and different teaching role attributes of instructors in Malaysia
The present study seeks to examine the influence of technology on these four roles. Two hundred and ninety two lecturers teaching in Malaysian tertiary educations were involved in this study. They were using different level of technologies for teaching. Questionnaires were used to solicit their responses which were distributed using various means; online, personal visits and regular mails. The measurement items were mainly adapted from Job Diagnostic Survey developed by Hackman and Oldham. The results from the findings revealed that technology was found giving significant positive impacts on technical and managerial roles. There is no evidence to support the significant influence of technology on the other two roles. The significant findings suggest that lecturers perceive their roles in managing the course and dealing with technical aspect of the job have been enhanced with the use of technology. However, the insignificant findings imply several major issues that are worth contemplating. The main implications of the study are discussed in terms of lecturers’ teaching job design, training and performance appraisals
