    The Performance of CRTNT Fluorescence Light Detector for Sub-EeV Cosmic Ray Observation

    Cosmic Ray Tau Neutrino Telescopes (CRTNT) using for sub-EeV cosmic ray measurement is discussed. Performances of a stereoscope configuration with a tower of those telescopes plus two side-triggers are studied. This is done by using a detailed detector simulation driven by Corsika. Detector aperture as a function of shower energy above 10^17 eV is calculated. Event rate of about 20k per year for the second knee measurement is estimated. Event rate for cross calibration with detectors working on higher energy range is also estimated.     Oxidative stress is increased in varicose veins. Many studies have implicated oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of infertility causing diseases of the female reproductive tract. The aim of this study was to determine whether varicocele can cause raised levels of reactive oxygen species and denaturation of mitochondrial structure in ovaries of female rats or not. In each experimental study, 15 weaning-age female rats were divided equally in 3 groups: Unilateral Varicose Vein (A), Sham (B) and Control (C) groups. Mitochondrial structure and malondialdehyde levels as a product of lipid peroxidation and Prooxidants-Antioxidants Balance were evaluated 60 days after intervention in proestrus stage. Comparisons between groups were made by the measured test. After 2 months, our results showed that mitochondrial structure ultra-structurally was denatured with histologic examination, malondialdehyde and prooxidants-antioxidants balance levels of left ovaries increased significantly in varicocele group compared to control and sham groups (P�0.05). In the right side, malondialdehyde increased significantly, but in prooxidantsantioxidants balance levels, there is no significant differences between groups. The data of control and sham groups were the same. These findings may support the concept that increased levels of malondialdehyde and PAB in varicocele may cause negative effects on fertility, so using antioxidants maybe useful. © 2015, International Journal of Morphology.     Isolation of keratinophilic fungi and aerobic actinomycetes from park soils in Gorgan, North of Iran

    Background: Keratinophilic fungi are a group of fungi that colonize in various keratinous substrates and degrade them to the components with low molecular weight. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of keratinophilic fungi and aerobic Actinomycetes in soil of city parks in Gorgan. Objectives: In this study, we surveyed the city park soils of Gorgan (a northern province of Iran) to determine the identities and diversity of soil aerobic Actinomycetes, keratinophilic and non-keratinophilic fungi. Materials and Methods: A total of 244 soil samples were collected from 22 diferent parks of Gorgan, North of Iran. The samples were collected from the superfcial layer with depth not exceeding than 0-10 cm in sterile polyethylene bags. We used hair bait technique for isolation keratinophilic fungi. The colonies identifed by macroscopic and microscopic characterization after slide culturing. Actinomycetes were isolated by antibiotic dilution methods and detected by using physiological tests such as Lysozyme, Casein, Xanthine, Hypoxanthine, Gelatin, Urea Broth, and modifed acid-fast stain. Results: Totally, 75 isolates of aerobic Actinomycetes were detected that Actinomadura madurae and Nocardia asteroides were the most prevalent strains, with 14.66 and 28% prevalence respectively. Microsporum gypseum was more frequent than other keratinophilic fungi (22.96%) and Aspergillus spp. was the most species of saprophyte fungi (15.92%). Conclusions: This study showed that the collected soil from studied areas was rich of keratinophilic fungi and Actinomycetes, therefore hygiene protocol should be taken to prevent the spread of pathogenic and saprophytes fungi in the environment of susceptible person. © 2013, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

    On the heat stability of whey protein: Effect of Sodium hexametaphosphate

    Despite a growing demand for whey protein‐based drinks, their instability and lack of solubility during thermal processing is a major challenge for food product formulators. In the present study, the effects of different hydrocolloids and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) on the heat stability, rheological properties, microstructure and sensory characteristics of whey protein concentrate (WPC) dispersions were evaluated. The results indicated that at pH 4, xanthan, k‐carrageenan, low methoxyl pectin (LMP) and guar stabilised WPC dispersion without heat treatment, all maintained stability during pasteurisation but not sterilisation. For pH 7, for the same set of hydrocolloids, a similar trend was also observed, albeit at different concentrations. However, by adding optimum ratios of SHMP protein denaturation was retarded, particularly in the case of LMP and i‐carrageenan. The highest and lowest apparent viscosities were exhibited by samples containing 0.01% and 0.15% w/w SHMP, respectively. This study highlights the potential capability of SHMP in the prevention of protein denaturation. An exact plausible stability mechanism still needs further more detailed investigation

    Cosmic Rays at the Highest Energies -- First Data from the Pierre Auger Observatory --

    The southern Pierre Auger Observatory, presently under construction in Malarg"ue, Argentina, is nearing completion. The instrument is designed to measure extensive air-showers with energies ranging from 101810^{18}-102010^{20} eV and beyond. It combines two complementary observation techniques; the detection of particles at ground and the coincident observation of associated fluorescence light generated in the atmosphere above the ground. This is being realized by employing an array of 1600 water Cherenkov detectors, distributed over an area of 3000 km2^{2}, and operating 24 wide-angle Schmidt telescopes, positioned at four sites at the border of the ground array. The Observatory will reach its full size only in 2007 but data are routinely recorded already and have started to provide relevant science results.     Design of Real Time Walsh Transform for Processing of Multiple Digital Signals

    This paper presents the design and implementation of multiple digital signals processing using real-time Walsh transforms. The design of real time Walsh transform is done in such a way that it starts producing outputs instantly even before all input data have entered the system. The system consists of Walsh Transform circuit, several Digital Signal Processing (DSP) circuits, and an inverse Walsh transform circuit. The real time Walsh and inverse Walsh transforms are also designed to produce right results for any possible combinations of input data. DSP blocks are able to perform addition, subtraction, and dyadic convolution process of Walsh coefficients of more than one digital signals. Comparisons to the previous methods are briefly presented.     Steepest-entropy-ascent nonequilibrium quantum thermodynamic framework to model chemical reaction rates at an atomistic level

    The steepest entropy ascent (SEA) dynamical principle provides a general framework for modeling the dynamics of nonequilibrium (NE) phenomena at any level of description, including the atomistic one. It has recently been shown to provide a precise implementation and meaning to the maximum entropy production principle and to encompass many well-established theories of nonequilibrium thermodynamics into a single unifying geometrical framework. Its original formulation in the framework of quantum thermodynamics (QT) assumes the simplest and most natural Fisher-Rao metric to geometrize from a dynamical standpoint the manifold of density operators, which represent the thermodynamic NE states of the system. This simplest SEAQT formulation is used here to develop a general mathematical framework for modeling the NE time evolution of the quantum state of a chemically reactive mixture at an atomistic level. The method is illustrated for a simple two-reaction kinetic scheme of the overall reaction F + H2 HF + F in an isolated tank of fixed volume. However, the general formalism is developed for a reactive system subject to multiple reaction mechanisms. To explicitly implement the SEAQT nonlinear law of evolution for the density operator, both the energy and the particle number eigenvalue problems are set up and solved analytically under the dilute gas approximation. The system-level energy and particle number eigenvalues and eigenstates are used in the SEAQT equation of motion to determine the time evolution of the density operator, thus, effectively describing the overall kinetics of the reacting system as it relaxes towards stable chemical equilibrium. The predicted time evolution in the near-equilibrium limit is compared to the reaction rates given by a standard detailed kinetic model so as to extract the single time constant needed by the present SEA model

    The status of the field of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays is summarized, from the point of view of the latest results of the High Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) Experiment. HiRes results are presented, and compared with those of the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA), plus the Telescope Array and Pierre Auger experiments. The HiRes measurements of the cosmic ray spectrum, and the observation of the GZK cutoff are presented.
