The effect of personality traits extroversion/introversion on verbal and interactive behaviors of learners
Cataloged from PDF version of article. The aim of this study was to see the influence of extroversion/introversion
continuum on learners’ verbal tendencies and interactive behaviors. In addition, this
study also tried to discover learners’ perception of the influence of their personality
on their interactive behaviors.
The study was conducted in Ankara University, School of Foreign
Languages, involving nineteen participants. The relevant data was collected in three
steps. First, students were given a personality inventory test, so that their
personalities could be identified. After the test results were obtained four introverted
and four extroverted students were chosen for the rest of the study. In the second
step, subjects were asked to participate in a set of speaking tasks. Finally, an
interview with the subjects was conducted to be informed about learners’ understanding of the link between their personality and verbal tendencies. The data
collected from the speaking tasks was first transcribed and than analyzed according
to the categories established as interactional behaviors and speech production.
The results showed that, learners with extroversion and introversion
tendencies differed in terms of the way they communicate in L2. While extroverts
inclined to start most of the conversations, introduce new topics to the speech and
make restatements, introverts tended to ask questions. With respect to speech
production, extroverts were found to produce longer sentences, employ more filled
pauses and self-corrected utterances. As to second research question, the results
revealed that both extroverted and introverted subjects were aware of the effect of
their personality on their language behavior.Abalı, FundaM.S
Halk anlatılarında ensest
Ankara : İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi Ekonomi ve Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Türk Edebiyatı Bölümü, 2011.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 2011.Includes bibliographical references leaves 113-118.The aim of this study is to ascertain incest theme in Turkish folk narratives
and to analyse biological and psychological factors and social and cultural perception
of incest phenomenon. In this sense, the incest theme in folk tales, folk stories, poetic
epics, folk songs, threnodies and Turkish poems is the analysis in feminist
perspective by making use of Jung’s archetypal symbolism. In the first section of the
study, Jung’s analytical psychology and archetypes are specified. The ideas of
psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung on incest are referred to in the
context of the Oedipus Complex. Sense of mother-son incest set forth in the Dede
Korkut Oğuznameleri is examined while referring to the Oedipus Complex. In the
second section, folk songs, folk tales and stories comprising father-daughter and
father-in-law-daughter-in-law incest motives are analysed. In the third section of the
thesis, the Arzu ile Kamber story which evokes brother-sister incest is assessed. The
last section, deals wise brother-in-law-aunt-in-law and brother-in-law-sister-in-law
incest in poetic epics, folk songs, threnodies and Turkish poems in the context of the
line of descent interrelated by marriage. Incest theme differ according to the types of
folk narratives, and any type of incest is examined within its own type of narrative.
In consideration of folk narratives, the scope of incest is explained through the
effects of Islamic religion and traditions within the framework of social and cultural
structure.Abalı, NefiseM.S
Lymphangioma: Surrounding the ovarian vein and ovary
Lymphangiomas are usually benign lesions seen in the head and neck region in children. Intra-abdominal localisation is rare and the majority of these cases are in early childhood. Retroperitoneal lymphangiomas constitute approximately 1% of all lymphangiomas. They are generally diagnosed incidentally, may be asymptomatic or may present with a palpable abdominal mass. A limited number of cases of ovarian lymphangiomas have been reported in women, whereas there are no reported cases of paraovarian localisation. We present a rare case of lymphangioma located in bilateral paraovarian region and along the left ovarian vein with radiological findings
Usefulness of endovascular stent-graft for combination with a strict aort coarctation and patent ductus arteriosus for an adult patient: a case report
We reported a 21-year-old patient with strict descending aorta coarctation and small post-ductal patent ductus arteriosus, complicated with abortion and hypertension. The patient was successfully treated by endovascular stent-graft with a single cardiac catheterization. Endovascular stent-graft is an easy, safe, and reliable intervention for the treatment of strict descending aorta coarctation and small post-ductal patent ductus arteriosus
Controlled modulation of 1D ZnO nano/micro structures: Evaluation of the various effects on the photocatalytic activity
Effects of the concentration, temperature and precursor type on the fabrication of the elongated ZnO nano/micro structures were comprehensively investigated. Analytical investigations such as SEM and statistical analysis of the elongated ZnO nano/micro structures provided wide information about the growth behavior and final geometries. Different temperatures for the 1 D ZnO formation clearly revealed that hexagonally grown ZnO nanorods were obtained. Especially low crystal diffraction characteristics at low temperature (55 °C) implied that ZnO nano/micro rod formation requires some minimum conditions for the formation of an efficient photocatalyst. All XRD investigations together with SEM and TEM supported the ligand ordered elongation conducted by diverse beginning concentrations. Since temperature found as a highly dominant actor for morphology and surface sequence as manifested in crystallinity, morphology and photocatalytic results, we have systematically summarized the growth conditions of the ZnO nano/micro rods from same precursor. © 2017 Elsevier Lt
Iatrogenic Port Site Parasitic Myoma; Case Report and Literature Review
Introduction: We report a case of iatrogenic parasitic myoma of the anterior abdominal wall and discuss the differential diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complication with relevant literature. Case Report: A 33-year-old woman presented with anterior abdominal wall mass 3 years after initial laparoscopic myomectomy surgery. A mass with a 38 3 26 mm diameter was observed in the anterior abdominal wall at the site of inferior left side port of previous surgery. It was excised from the anterior abdominal wall outside of the peritoneum, below the fascia. The pathologic examination of the excised mass revealed cellular myoma. This case is the 4th port site parasitic myoma in literature. Conclusion: The risk of implantation and subsequent growth of minute myoma fragments should be kept in mind during morcellation procedures and, in order to avoid such complications, all fragments should be tracked during morcellation. The inspection of trocar sites after the removal of trocars for retained fragments would prevent such recurrences
The Use of an Anterior Abdominal Wall Peritoneal Flap in the Laparoscopic Repair of Vesicouterine Fistula
Vesicouterine fistula (VUF) is a rare type of genitourinary fistula. Lower-segment cesarean section is the leading cause of VUF. Patients mostly present with the classical triad of menouria, amenorrhea, and urinary incontinence, with the history of a previous cesarean section. Conservative management with catheterization and open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeries are the prescribed treatment options. We present the case of a 35-year-old woman who presented with cyclical menouria and urinary incontinence. After diagnosis of VUF by cystoscopy, the laparoscopic approach was chosen. During the procedure, we used anterior abdominal wall peritoneum and adjacent adipose tissue interposition for the first time, instead of omental interposition, because of the unavailability of omentum. The postoperative period was uneventful, and the procedure was successful. In conclusion, the laparoscopic approach is feasible and the anterior abdominal wall peritoneal flap can be used instead of omentum for tissue interposition when the omentum is not available
Infectious side effects of baricitinib: A big data analysis based on VigiBase
Dear Editor, Baricitinib (known as “Olumiant”), is an inhibitor of Janus- associated kinase 1 and 2 (JAK1 and JAK2) initially introduced for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and later for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and atopic dermatitis [1]. The first approval of baricitinib was from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a mon- otherapy or combination therapy with methotrexate for patients with RA unresponsive to disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs
