Polypyrrole-Fe2O3 nanohybrid materials for electrochemical storage

We report on the synthesis and electrochemical characterization of nanohybrid polypyrrole (PPy) (PPy/Fe2O3) materials for electrochemical storage applications. We have shown that the incorporation of nanoparticles inside the PPy notably increases the charge storage capability in comparison to the “pure” conducting polymer. Incorporation of large anions, i.e., paratoluenesulfonate, allows a further improvement in the capacity. These charge storage modifications have been attributed to the morphology of the composite in which the particle sizes and the specific surface area are modified with the incorporation of nanoparticles. High capacity and stability have been obtained in PC/NEt4BF4 (at 20 mV/s), i.e., 47 mAh/g, with only a 3% charge loss after one thousand cyles. The kinetics of charge–discharge is also improved by the hybrid nanocomposite morphology modifications, which increase the rate of insertion–expulsion of counter anions in the bulk of the film. A room temperature ionic liquid such as imidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonimide seems to be a promising electrolyte because it further increases the capacity up to 53 mAh/g with a high stability during charge–discharge processes

Search for a new gauge boson in pi(0) decays RID B-6634-2009 RID C-6672-2008

A search was made for a new light gauge boson X which might be produced in pi(0) -->, gamma + X decay from neutral pions generated by 450 GeV protons in the CERN SPS neutrino target. The X's would penetrate the downstream shielding and be observed in the NOMAD detector via the Primakoff effect, in the process of X --> pi(0) conversion in the external Coulomb field of a nucleus. With 1.45 x 10(18) protons on target, 20 candidate events with energy between 8 and 140 GeV were found from the analysis of neutrino data. This number is in agreement with the expectation of 18.1 +/- 2.8 background events from standard neutrino processes. A new 90% C.L. upper limit on the branching ratio Br(pi(0) --> Y + X)< (3.3 to 1.9)X 10(-5) for X masses ranging from 0 to 120 MeV/c(2) is obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Production characteristics of K-0 and light meson resonances in hadronic decays of the Z(0)

An analysis of inclusive production of KO and the meson resonances K*(+/-)(892), rho(0)(770), f(0)(975) and f(2)(1270) in hadronic decays of the Z(0) is presented, based on about 973,000 multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. Overall multiplicities have been determined as 1.962 +/- 0.060 K-0 mesons, 0.712 +/- 0.067 K*(+/-)(892) and 1.21 +/- 0.15 rho(0)(770) per hadronic Z(0) decay. The average multiplicities of f(0)(975) for scaled momentum, x(p) = p/p(beam), in the range 0.05 less than or equal to x(p) less than or equal to 0.6 and of f(2)(1270) for 0.05 less than or equal to x(p) less than or equal to 1.0 are 0.098 +/- 0.016 and 0.170 +/- 0.043 respectively. The f(0)(975) and rho(0)(770) x(p)-spectra have p similar shapes. The f(2)(1270)/rho(0)(770) ratio increases with x(p). The average multiplicities and the differential cross sections are compared with the JETSET Parton Shower model. The model with default parameters fails to reproduce the experimental K-0 momentum spectrum at low momentum, describes the K*(+/-)(892) and rho(0)(770) x(p)-spectrum shapes, but significantly overestimates their production rates
