Chaining Meets Chain Rule: Multilevel Entropic Regularization and Training of Neural Nets

We derive generalization and excess risk bounds for neural nets using a family of complexity measures based on a multilevel relative entropy. The bounds are obtained by introducing the notion of generated hierarchical coverings of neural nets and by using the technique of chaining mutual information introduced in Asadi et al. NeurIPS'18. The resulting bounds are algorithm-dependent and exploit the multilevel structure of neural nets. This, in turn, leads to an empirical risk minimization problem with a multilevel entropic regularization. The minimization problem is resolved by introducing a multi-scale generalization of the celebrated Gibbs posterior distribution, proving that the derived distribution achieves the unique minimum. This leads to a new training procedure for neural nets with performance guarantees, which exploits the chain rule of relative entropy rather than the chain rule of derivatives (as in backpropagation). To obtain an efficient implementation of the latter, we further develop a multilevel Metropolis algorithm simulating the multi-scale Gibbs distribution, with an experiment for a two-layer neural net on the MNIST data set.Comment: 30 pages, 3 figure

Relationship Between Self-differentiation in Bowen's family Therapy and Psychological Health

AbstractFamily is a multi-dimensional structure that has particular intricacies in its internal relationships which should be taken into account in the family studies. Differentiation is one of these intricacies that Bowen has established his Family Therapy Theory upon it. This study is aimed to consider the relationship between self-differentiation and psychological health. This study is a correlation study and the statistical population includes the clients of counseling centers of Tabriz city. To collect data, we used Differentiation of Self Inventory-2 (DSI-2) and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) as instruments. Step by step Multiple Regression was used to analyze data. The findings indicates that there is a significantly positive relationship between self - differentiation and psychological health (P<0/001). Regarding to the findings, it could be concluded that those who apply appropriate Self-differentiation in their lives, they would have less psychological vulnerability comparing to the ones who lack Self-differentiation

Health Village and its place in the Health System

Background & Objectives: Health Village is a residential/healthcare place for natural remedies combined with other medical treatments. Health village can be set in different sizes, depending on the amount of investments and the investors’ strategic objectives. In fact, a complete health village can cover all aspects of health and meet all the health needs of a community. Methods: In this review study, Persian and English articles indexed in valid databases such as Google Scholar, SID, Pubmed, Irandoc Science direct and Scopus were searched using the MESH terms of “ Health village” and “Health resort” without time limitation. Results: Providing health services in natural areas and away from urban pollution can restore the health and well-being and also can cause psychological and physical relaxation not only in patients but also in those who are interested in living in places with services such as water therapy, herbal therapy, gravel treatments, mud therapy, and other services. Conclusion: The effort to create environments such as the health village, due to the potential of such centers in providing high levels of physical and psychological comfort for audiences, can be considered as a beneficial local business. Therefore, the health village is an environment that can contribute to the social and economic development while serving the health of the community. Effect of extract of Varthemia persica DC on whole blood acetylcholinesterase activity in rats

Varthemia persica DC. is an aromatic plant, from the Asteraceae family, wildly growing in the central provinces of Iran. Sesquiterpene lactones that are found in Varthemia species have protective effect against organophosphates toxicity. This study aimed to assess the Effect of Varthemia persica extract on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. In this study, 0.4 mg normal saline was injected intra peritoneally in 12 control rats. 0.4 ml ethyl paraoxon was injected intraperitoneally in the reference group. In positive control group, after ethyl paraoxon injection, 0.4 ml pralidoxime was injected. In the first group (test 1) ethanolic Varthemia persica suspension was injected. In the second group (test 2), during the 6 days before toxin injection, daily injection of Varthemia persica was made. In test 3 group, suspension injection was repeated in 5 following days. In test 4 group, dichloroethanic suspension was injected. And in the last group (test 5) a high dose of suspension (1g/ml) was injected. The blood sample was collected 30 minutes after final injection. AChE activity was measure. The results showed that AChE activity was significantly improved only in the second and third groups and in other test groups, Varthemia persica suspension don't improved AChE activity. Based on the present finding it seems that the Varthemia persica extract is only effective if it used frequently and a single dose even in high dose is not effective
