Empreendedores culturais imigrantes em São Paulo de 1950

Este artigo discute as relações entre imigração, indústria, diversificação das elites e criação das instituições culturais em São Paulo nos anos de 1950, momento de intenso dinamismo da cidade que adquiria os contornos definitivos de metrópole. Como conseqüência dessas mudanças, solidificou-se a compreensão do caráter civilizatório contido no desenvolvimento cultural, estabelecendo-se franca homologia com a modernização em curso, em todas as esferas da sociedade. Na esteira dessas iniciativas, vicejaram as linguagens culturais mais renovadoras, caso do concretismo na poesia e nas artes plásticas; da dramaturgia e da cinematografia; da arquitetura, do design, da publicidade; das ciências sociais e do planejamento urbano; dos debates que grassavam em todos os campos. O vigor cultural do período forjou-se na dinâmica da modernidade burguesa, identificada com o progresso e comprometida com a construção do poder do dinheiro.This paper discusses the relationship between immigration, industry, diversification of the elites and the creation of cultural institutions in São Paulo in the 195's, a time of intense city dynamics when it was acquiring the definite shapes of a metropolis. As a consequence of these changes, the understanding of the civilizing character imbued in cultural development became solidified, and a general homology with the modernization in course, in all spheres of society, was established. This was breeding ground for renewed cultural languages, such as 'concretism' in poetry and in the fine arts; of the theatre and film making; of architecture, design and advertising; the social sciences and urban planning; of the debates that took place in all fields. The cultural vigor of the time was gained from the dynamics of bourgeois modernity, identified with progress and compromised with the institutional building of wealthy patrons

A nova política de pós-graduação no Brasil

This article deals with the policy of evaluation of the post-graduation in Brazil built in 1998. It points the differences in the previous systematic and comes up with the resulting implications of the new model. It also calls the attention to the functional feature of the evaluation, to its development in the ambit of the intellectual production, of the formation of the students and of the principles which outlined the post-graduation studies.O artigo trata da política de avaliação da Pós-Graduação no Brasil construída em 1998. Aponta para as diferenças em relação à sistemática anterior e retira as implicações resultantes do novo modelo. Chama a atenção para o caráter funcional da avaliação, para os seus desdobramentos no âmbito da produção intelectual, da formação dos estudantes e dos princípios que passaram a nortear os estudos pós-graduados

A aventura sociológica de Florestan Fernandes

O objetivo do artigo é analisar a contribuição sociológica de Florestan Fernandes, sob variadas perspectivas: entender os motivos que explicam a vasta fortuna crítica existente sobre sua obra e trajetória; o escopo analítico das suas reflexões sobre a constituição da revolução burguesa no Brasil; as conexões entre relações raciais, preconceito e a estruturação da modernização brasileira. Finalmente, estabelece inferências entre os estudos sobre a trajetória e a obra do sociólogo maior do Brasil e os problemas do tempo presente, pondo em relevo o papel dos intelectuais.The aim of the article is to analyze the sociological contribution of Florestan Fernandes from different perspectives: understanding the reasons that explain the vast critical fortune that exists on his work and trajectory; the analytical scope of his reflections on the constitution of the bourgeois revolution in Brazil; and the connections between race relations, prejudice, and the structuring of Brazilian modernization. Finally, this essay draws inferences between the studies about the trajectory and work of Brazil’s greatest sociologist and the problems of the present time, highlighting the role of intellectuals
