A Metric for Linear Temporal Logic
We propose a measure and a metric on the sets of infinite traces generated by
a set of atomic propositions. To compute these quantities, we first map
properties to subsets of the real numbers and then take the Lebesgue measure of
the resulting sets. We analyze how this measure is computed for Linear Temporal
Logic (LTL) formulas. An implementation for computing the measure of bounded
LTL properties is provided and explained. This implementation leverages SAT
model counting and effects independence checks on subexpressions to compute the
measure and metric compositionally
Charge transfer and trapping as origin of a double dip in the transfer characteristics of graphene based field-effect transistors
We discuss the origin of an additional dip other than the charge neutrality
point observed in transfer characteristics of graphene-based field-effect
transistors. The double-dip is proved to arise from charge transfer between
graphene and metal electrodes, while charge storage at the graphene/SiO2
interface enhances it. Considering different Fermi energy from the neutrality
point along the channel and partial charge pinning at the contacts, we propose
a model which explains all features in gate voltage loops.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
Nasal histamine responses in nonallergic rhinitis with eosinophilic syndrome
Background: Nonallergic rhinitis with eosinophilic syndrome (NARES) is persistent, without atopy, but with ≥25% nasal eosinophilia. Hypereosinophilia seems to contribute to nasal mucosa dysfunction.
Objectives: This analytical case-control study aimed at assessing the presence and severity of nonspecific nasal hyperactivity and at finding out whether eosinophilia may be correlated with the respiratory and mucociliary clearance functions.
Materials: The symptom score was assessed in 38 patients and 15 controls whose nasal smear was also tested for eosinophils and mucociliary transport (MCT). Nonspecific nasal provocation tests (NSNPT) with histamine were also carried out, and total nasal resistance (TNR) was determined.
Results: The symptom score of NARES after NSNPT were not significantly different from the control group, and there was poor or no correlation among the single symptoms and the differences studied for every nasal reactivity class. This correlation improved when using the composite symptom score. The most severe eosinophilia was observed in high reactivity groups, and it was correlated with an increase in TNR. MCT worsened as eosinophilia and nasal reactivity increased. Unlike controls, a significant correlation was observed between the increase in MCT and TNR.
Conclusions: In NARES, nonspecific nasal hyperreactivity is the result of epithelial damage produced by eosinophilic inflammation, which causes MCT slow down, an increase in TNR, and nasal reactivity classes, with possible impact on classification, prognosis, and treatment control
Hilbert series and degrees of regularity of Oil Vinegar and Mixed quadratic systems
In this paper, we analyze the algebraic invariants for two classes of
multivariate quadratic systems: systems made by OV quadratic polynomials and
systems made by both OV polynomials and fully quadratic ones. For such systems,
we explicitly compute the Hilbert series, and we give bounds on the degree of
regularity, solving degree and first fall degree that are useful in
cryptographic applications
soil structure interaction effects on the seismic performances of reinforced concrete moment resisting frames
Abstract The paper investigates the influence of Soil-Structure-Interaction (SSI) effects on the seismic performances of 2D reinforced concrete (RC) moment resisting frames (MRFs), which were investigated by means of non-linear dynamic analyses. The goal was pursued by means of a parametric study in which (1) the soil properties, (2) the modelling technique of the SSI effects, (3) the seismic design level of the structures were varied. The soil classes suggested by Eurocode 8 were taken as reference to define the mechanical properties of soil. As concerns the SSI modelling, both a sub-structures approach and a direct approach were considered. Finally, structures of 4 and 8 floors designed for vertical loads only or according to the Italian regulations for constructions (NTC-08) were considered. RC-MRFs founded on soft soils were considered, because SSI effects on the seismic response are expected higher. The study shows that SSI affects the seismic demand in terms of maximum base shear and maximum inter-story drift ratio with different significance depending on the modelling approach
Envisioning the Future of Queer of Color Critique in Higher Education: Mobilizing the Framework in Research
As queer and trans studies in higher education continues to embrace its interdisciplinary nature, scholars should further interrogate how they utilize critical and poststructural frameworks in designing their studies. This manuscript details the considerations that postsecondary education researchers should be mindful of as they seek to actualize the potential of queer of color critique (QOCC) in their studies. Specifically, the authors describe how individuals using QOCC should actualize the framework in the following four areas: considering the scope of the study, reflections on the researcher and participant relationship, engaging in responsive and transformative data collection, and centering equity and liberation in research outcomes. This paper will be instrumental to higher education researchers hoping to leverage QOCC in their studies
Nonlinear Voltage Regulation of an Auxiliary Energy Storage of a Multiport Interconnection
In this article, we propose a nonlinear voltage control to ensure power
exchange in a multiport interconnected system, which consists of a
bidirectional DC-DC converter and generating-storing devices. The converter
topology under consideration is two-stage, composed of an interconnection of a
buck with a boost converter. The motivation for this work is the explosive
increase in the use of DC-DC converters due to the massification of renewable
energies, electric vehicles powertrains, and energy storage systems, where fuel
cells or batteries can be used as power backup or high-power support during
transient phenomena. The converter's voltage step-up and step-down capabilities
allow the use of supercapacitors with voltage limits that exceed those required
by the load, thus enabling its use in a broader range of applications. The
control design for this system does not correspond to that in standard
applications involving power converters. As it is known, the latter consists of
finding a control law such that the closed-loop system has an asymptotically
stable equilibrium point fulfilling the voltage regulation objectives. Instead,
in this application, the state does not tend to an equilibrium value in order
for the system to be regulated. The converter voltage is regulated at desired
some setpoint whereas the other variables are only required to be bounded. To
achieve a dynamic response that best adapts to changes in system demand and
ensure stability over the defined wide operating range we propose a novel
control strategy that exploits the partially cascaded structure of the system.
Numerical and experimental results validate our approach
