An unified cosmological evolution driven by a mass dimension one fermionic field
An unified cosmological model for an Universe filled with a mass dimension
one (MDO) fermionic field plus the standard matter fields is considered. After
a primordial quantum fluctuation the field slowly rolls down to the bottom of a
symmetry breaking potential, driving the Universe to an inflationary regime
that increases the scale factor for about 71 e-folds. After the end of
inflation, the field starts to oscillate and can transfer its energy to the
standard model particles through a reheating mechanism. Such a process is
briefly discussed in terms of the admissible couplings of the MDO field with
the electromagnetic and Higgs fields. We show that even if the field loses all
its kinetic energy during reheating, it can evolve as dark matter due a
gravitational coupling (of spinorial origin) with baryonic matter. Since the
field acquires a constant value at the bottom of the potential, a non-null,
although tiny, mass term acts as a dark energy component nowadays. Therefore,
we conclude that MDO fermionic field is a good candidate to drive the whole
evolution of the Universe, in such a way that the inflationary field, dark
matter and dark energy are described by different manifestations of a single
field.Comment: 22 pages, 5 figure
Optimized cross-slot flow geometry for microfluidic extension rheometry
A precision-machined cross-slot flow geometry with a shape that has been optimized by numerical simulation of the fluid kinematics is fabricated and used to measure the extensional viscosity of a dilute polymer solution. Full-field birefringence microscopy is used to monitor the evolution and growth of macromolecular anisotropy along the stagnation point streamline, and we observe the formation of a strong and uniform birefringent strand when the dimensionless flow strength exceeds a critical Weissenberg number Wicrit 0:5. Birefringence and bulk pressure drop measurements provide self consistent estimates of the planar extensional viscosity of the fluid over a wide range of deformation rates (26 s1 "_ 435 s1) and are also in close agreement with numerical simulations performed by using a finitely extensible nonlinear elastic dumbbell model
Fault Localization in Multi-Threaded C Programs using Bounded Model Checking (extended version)
Software debugging is a very time-consuming process, which is even worse for
multi-threaded programs, due to the non-deterministic behavior of
thread-scheduling algorithms. However, the debugging time may be greatly
reduced, if automatic methods are used for localizing faults. In this study, a
new method for fault localization, in multi-threaded C programs, is proposed.
It transforms a multi-threaded program into a corresponding sequential one and
then uses a fault-diagnosis method suitable for this type of program, in order
to localize faults. The code transformation is implemented with rules and
context switch information from counterexamples, which are typically generated
by bounded model checkers. Experimental results show that the proposed method
is effective, in such a way that sequential fault-localization methods can be
extended to multi-threaded programs.Comment: extended version of paper published at SBESC'1
Statistical stability and limit laws for Rovella maps
We consider the family of one-dimensional maps arising from the contracting
Lorenz attractors studied by Rovella. Benedicks-Carleson techniques were used
by Rovella to prove that there is a one-parameter family of maps whose
derivatives along their critical orbits increase exponentially fast and the
critical orbits have slow recurrent to the critical point. Metzger proved that
these maps have a unique absolutely continuous ergodic invariant probability
measure (SRB measure).
Here we use the technique developed by Freitas and show that the tail set
(the set of points which at a given time have not achieved either the
exponential growth of derivative or the slow recurrence) decays exponentially
fast as time passes. As a consequence, we obtain the continuous variation of
the densities of the SRB measures and associated metric entropies with the
parameter. Our main result also implies some statistical properties for these
maps.Comment: 1 figur
Characterization of a rare analphoid supernumerary marker chromosome in mosaic
Abstract publicado em: Chromosome Research. 2015;23(Suppl 1):67-8. doi:10.1007/s10577-015-9476-6Analphoid supernumerary marker chromosomes (SMCs) are a rare subclass of SMCs C-band-negative
and devoid of alpha-satellite DNA. These marker chromosomes cannot be identified unambiguously by conventional banding techniques alone being necessary to apply molecular cytogenetic methods in favour of a detailed characterization. In this work we report an analphoid SMC involving the terminal long arm of chromosome 7, in 9 years-old boy with several dysmorphic features and severe development delay.
Cytogenetic analysis revealed a mosaic karyotype with the presence of an extra SMC, de novo, in 20 %
of lymphocytes and 73 % of fibroblast cells. FISH analysis with alpha-satellite probes for all chromosomes, whole chromosome painting probe for chromosome 7, and D7S427 and TelVysion 7q probes, allowed
establishing the origin of the SMC as an analphoidmarker resulting of an invdup rearrangement of 7q36-qter region. Affimetrix CytoScan HD microarray analysis, redefined the SMC to arr[hg19] 7q35(143696249-159119707)×2~3, which correspond to a gain of 15.42 Mb and encloses 67 OMIM genes, 16 of which are associated to disease. This result, combined with detailed clinical description, will provide an important means for better genotype-phenotype correlation and a more suitable genetic counselling to the patient and his parents, despite the additional difficulty resulting from being a mosaic (expression varies in different tissues). Analphoid SMCs derived from chromosome 7 are very rare, with only three cases reported so far. With this case we hope contribute to a better understanding of this type of chromosome rearrangements which are difficult for genetic counselling
Linear -positive sets and their polar subspaces
In this paper, we define a Banach SNL space to be a Banach space with a
certain kind of linear map from it into its dual, and we develop the theory of
linear -positive subsets of Banach SNL spaces with Banach SNL dual spaces.
We use this theory to give simplified proofs of some recent results of
Bauschke, Borwein, Wang and Yao, and also of the classical Brezis-Browder
theorem.Comment: 11 pages. Notational changes since version
Exact Renormalization of Massless QED2
We perform the exact renormalization of two-dimensional massless gauge
theories. Using these exact results we discuss the cluster property and
confinement in both the anomalous and chiral Schwinger models.Comment: 14 pages, no figures, introduction and conclusions modifie
Belief in a just world and self-efficacy to promote justice in the world predict helping attitudes, but only among volunteers
Previous studies have shown that willingness to help particular victims is predicted separately, or in combination, by the belief in a just world (BJW) and self-efficacy to promote justice in the world (SEJW). Our goal was to extend this knowledge by studying general attitudes towards helping and the association between BJW and SEJW in people that do volunteer service, and by comparing the predictive power of two spheres of BJW, personal BJW and general BJW, on helping attitudes. We measured personal BJW, general BJW, SEJW and helping attitudes in two samples (one comprising university students and the other only volunteers). The results differed in the two samples. For volunteers endorsing strong self-efficacy to promote justice in the world, personal BJW was associated positively with helping attitudes (p = .007). For participants endorsing weak self-efficacy to promote justice in the world, personal BJW was not associated with helping attitudes in either sample. General BJW was not associated with helping attitudes in either sample, either independently or in interaction with self-efficacy to promote justice in the world. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
