While automation and artificial intelligence will eliminate very few jobs and occupations during the next decades, they will certainly affect and be present in portions of almost all jobs, either in a greater or lesser degree. Considering this fact, this research intends to identify which competencies are more valuable for workers who work in a technological workplace, by the perspective of the employers. It means this research will explore, listening employers opinion, which competencies are the ones that makes a worker leads and responds positively to a technological implementation in their workplace. Results were gathered through a Delphi study, within a panel of six experts in the human resources for technological industries field. It is finding that employers consider adaptability and creativity as the most important competencies for technological work. Notwithstanding, informatic competencies were less valuable by employers while considering the importance of these competencies for workers dealing with technology or robotic presence in workplaces.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Regulação da produção da eritropoietina e perspectivas terapêuticas na anemia

    Get PDF
About 30 years ago, the treatment of chronic renal disease anaemia was revolutionized by the introduction of recombinant human erythropoietin, which reduced the need for blood transfusions. In spite of this huge advance, the first recombinant human erythropoietin has a relatively short half-life and needs to be administered two to three times per week. Subsequently, other molecules were developed, such as darbepoetin alfa, continuous erythropoietin receptor activator (CERA) and peginesatide, with longer half-life, but the route of administration still remains a problem. Erythropoietin has an action that exceeds erythropoiesis and plays an important role in cell protection. Based on knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that control erythropoiesis, namely the regulation of EPO gene expression, through HIF system, GATA-2 and NF-kB, several upcoming therapeutic agents and strategies for stimulating and treating anaemia emerged. The main effort in developing these treatments is to achieve other routes of administration, more convenient for the patient, such as oral therapy, not disregarding an easier production, storage and frequency of administration. Some of them are still in laboratory phase and others already in clinical trials phase II or III. In this work, based on a literature search of studies using MEDLINE, our objective is to review the regulation of erythropoietin production and its functions, as well as treatment approach for anaemia of chronic kidney disease, with particular focus on new therapiesHá cerca de 30 anos atrás, o tratamento da anemia da doença renal crónica foi revolucionado pela introdução da eritropoietina (EPO) humana recombinante que permitiu reduzir drasticamente a necessidade de transfusões sanguíneas.

Quantum critical point in the spin glass-antiferromagnetism competition in Kondo-lattice systems

A theory is proposed to describe the competition among antiferromagnetism (AF), spin glass (SG) and Kondo effect. The model describes two Kondo sublattices with an intrasite Kondo interaction strength JKJ_{K} and an interlattice quantum Ising interaction in the presence of a transverse field Γ\Gamma. The interlattice coupling is a random Gaussian distributed variable (with average 2J0/N-2J_0/N and variance 32J2/N32 J^{2}/N) while the Γ\Gamma field is introduced as a quantum mechanism to produce spin flipping. The path integral formalism is used to study this fermionic problem where the spin operators are represented by bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields. The disorder is treated within the framework of the replica trick. The free energy and the order parameters of the problem are obtained by using the static ansatz and by choosing both J0/JJ_0/J and Γ/J(Jk/J)2\Gamma/J \approx (J_k/J)^2 to allow, as previously, a better comparison with the experimental findings. The results indicate the presence of a SG solution at low JK/JJ_K/J and for temperature T<TfT<T_{f} (TfT_{f} is the freezing temperature). When JK/JJ_K/J is increased, a mixed phase AF+SG appears, then an AF solution and finally a Kondo state is obtained for high values of JK/JJ_{K}/J. Moreover, the behaviors of the freezing and Neel temperatures are also affected by the relationship between JKJ_{K} and the transverse field Γ\Gamma. The first one presents a slight decrease while the second one decreases towards a Quantum Critical Point (QCP). The obtained phase diagram has the same sequence as the experimental one for Ce2Au1xCoxSi3Ce_{2}Au_{1-x}Co_{x}Si_{3}, if JKJ_{K} is assumed to increase with xx, and in addition, it also shows a qualitative agreement concerning the behavior of the freezing and the Neel temperatures.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in J. Expert systems within taxation: Competencies for employees

    Get PDF
Expert Systems (ES) is increasing its importance, impacting not only personal life but also professional life and its workplace. With ES's growing impact on tax areas, tasks of tax practitioners will change and progress. In addition to financial, legal and tax knowledge, these workers will need to develop and apply technical and analytical knowledge for the use of ES. This research proposal proposes to study the relationship between the presence of ES in taxation and the skills that the labour market imposes. The aim of this study is not only to identify the skills required for technological work within taxation, but also to build and validate a model that contributes to an improvement in the ability to predict workers' ability to adapt to new work demands.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Characterization of the Intra-Unit-Cell magnetic order in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d

As in YBa2Cu3O6+x and HgBa2CuO8+d, the pseudo-gap state in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d is characterized by the existence of an intra-unit-cell magnetic order revealed by polarized neutron scattering technique. We report here a supplementary set of polarized neutron scattering measurements for which the direction of the magnetic moment is determined and the magnetic intensity is calibrated in absolute units. The new data allow a close comparison between bilayer systems YBa2Cu3O6+x and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d and rise important questions concerning the range of the magnetic correlations and the role of disorder around optimal doping.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, submitted to physical review

Friend or foe? A thematic analysis on adult friendships and chronic pain

    Get PDF
Background: Chronic pain is a worldwide public health challenge. Despite chronic pain having biopsychosocial dimensions, its social contexts are less investigated. Although current evidence shows that chronic pain shapes and is shaped by interactions with romantic partners, research about friendships and chronic pain is scarce, and mostly focused on adolescents. Aim: Drawing upon theories on friendship and social support, this study aimed to investigate the role of adult friendships on chronic pain adjustment and, the effect of chronic pain on adult friendships. Methods: This study drew upon a qualitative descriptive methodology. Sixteen adults with primary or secondary (non-cancer) chronic pain participated in individual semi-structured interviews, conducted using voice over internet protocol applications. Data analysis was guided by Clarke and Brown's guidelines for thematic analysis. Results: The analysis of participants’ (87.5% women; Mage = 43 years) stories revealed two themes. The first captured how friends promote/hinder adjustment to chronic pain by being: (1) (un)available and providing (un)needed support; and (2) (not)accepting and (not)accommodating to support life engagement. The second captured the negative effect of chronic pain on both parties’ attitudes and behaviors towards the relationship, leading to smaller and more homogeneous friendship networks. Conclusions: This study stresses the relevance of including adult friends in interventions to reduce the negative effect of chronic pain on friendships, harnessing their power to promote chronic pain adjustment. The findings bring new insights on a topic that has rarely been investigated in the pain field, hence pointing out innovative directions for future research and practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Alternate islands of multiple isochronous chains in wave-particle interactions

We analyze the dynamics of a relativistic particle moving in a uniform magnetic field and perturbed by a standing electrostatic wave. We show that a pulsed wave produces an infinite number of perturbative terms with the same winding number, which may generate islands in the same region of phase space. As a consequence, the number of isochronous island chains varies as a function of the wave parameters. We observe that in all the resonances, the number of chains is related to the amplitude of the various resonant terms. We determine analytically the position of the periodic points and the number of island chains as a function of the wave number and wave period. Such information is very important when one is concerned with regular particle acceleration, since it is necessary to adjust the initial conditions of the particle to obtain the maximum acceleration.Comment: Submitte

Nonadiabatic coherent evolution of two-level systems under spontaneous decay

In this paper we extend current perspectives in engineering reservoirs by producing a time-dependent master equation leading to a nonstationary superposition equilibrium state that can be nonadiabatically controlled by the system-reservoir parameters. Working with an ion trapped inside a nonindeal cavity we first engineer effective Hamiltonians that couple the electronic states of the ion with the cavity mode. Subsequently, two classes of decoherence-free evolution of the superposition of the ground and decaying excited levels are achieved: those with time-dependent azimuthal or polar angle. As an application, we generalise the purpose of an earlier study [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 150403 (2006)], showing how to observe the geometric phases acquired by the protected nonstationary states even under a nonadiabatic evolution.Comment: 5 pages, no figure
