Connection probabilities in Poisson random graphs with uniformly bounded edges
We consider random graphs with uniformly bounded edges on a Poisson point
process conditioned to contain the origin. In particular we focus on the random
connection model, the Boolean model and Miller-Abrahams random resistor network
with lower-bounded conductances. The latter is relevant for the analysis of
conductivity by Mott variable range hopping in strongly disordered systems. By
using the method of randomized algorithms developed by Duminil-Copin et al. we
prove that in the subcritical phase the probability that the origin is
connected to some point at distance decays exponentially in , while in
the supercritical phase the probability that the origin is connected to
infinity is strictly positive and bounded from below by a term proportional to
, being the density of the Poisson point
process and being the critical density.Comment: 25 pages. corrected version. the proof of Lemma 3.4 is much shorter.

LSE RB feature essay: opening capitalist realism by Alfie Bown
In Opening Capitalist Realism, Alfie Bown pays tribute to the work of the late writer and philosopher on all aspects of capitalism, Mark Fisher. Drawing on the glimmers of hope enfolded in Fisherâs 2009 work Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative?, Bown argues that the events of the past year have turned the glimpses of optimism identified by Fisher into concrete and pressing opportunities for rupture in the workings of capitalism â ones that he urges the Left to seize
Effect of Yoga Exercise on Cortisol Hormone Levels in Pregnant Women in Kinik Pratama Asih Waluyojati Banguntapan Bantul Yogyakarta
Maternal mortality rates in 2016 rose compared to 2015. The causes of maternal death in 2016 were Severe Preeclampsia (PEB) as much as 33% (4 cases), Bleeding by 17% (2 cases), Heart Failure 17% (2 cases), Sepsis 17% (2 cases) and Other 16% (2 cases). Some studies state that preeclampsia occurs due to the influence of anxiety during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a period of crisis that involves also psychological factors, hormonal changes causing the mother's emotions to become lame. In addition to physical factors, psycho social factors can add anxiety in pregnant women. High stress in pregnancy can increase stress hormones, it can also lead to increased blood pressure and birth weight loss. Prevention can be done by pregnant women to have a healthy condition both the mother and her fetus, as well as through the normal labor process that is by exercising, gymnastics, dancing, and yoga. At this time yoga becomes one of the self help that can support the process of pregnancy, birth. Physiological of yoga performed during pregnancy is reversing the effects of stress involving the parasympathetic part of the central nervous system. The effects of such stress will be inhibited by relaxation, so that the hormones that cause body dysregulation (cortisol) will be reduced in number. The hormone cortisol is an increased hormone in anxiety so by masterminding this hormone can lower the anxiety levels of pregnant women which has an impact on the decreased risk of PEB. Look at the effect of Yoga exercise on cortisol hormone levels in pregnant women. This type of quantitative research is True Experimental research method, with Posttest-Only Control Group Design. Respondents who used pregnant women who participated in prenatal yoga, samples taken with the Formula Freeder obtained 16 pregnant women with control as many as 16. Data analysis was performed using the Pearson Chi-Square test with a result of p <0.00 which indicates a correlation. There is an effect of yoga on cortisol levels in pregnant women
UK finance needs radical reform to upgrade the post-Brexit economy
At a recent event marking the 10-year anniversary of the financial crisis, the Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney said the UKâs banking sector could be â15 to 20 times GDPâ in just a âquarter of a centuryâ. But such proclamations beg a big question: what is the value of all this activity and wealth to the rest of the economy
SOCIAL MEDIA, HELP OR HINDRANCE: WHAT ROLE DOES SOCIAL MEDIA PLAY IN YOUNG PEOPLE\u27S MENTAL HEALTH?
Social media is a huge force in the lives of young people with wide ranging effects on their development; given the importance of
adolescence in the genesis of mental illness, social media is a factor in the mental health of young people. Despite the role that social
media obviously plays in the development of mental illness, little research has been done into the impact that social media has on in
the mental illness of young people. In general, what research there is points towards social media having a large impact on young
people in both positive and negative ways. In particular, certain studies show a greater incidence and severity of bullying online
compared to offline which may contribute to the development of depression. This contrasts with the positive impact that social media
seems to have for young people in minority groups (ethnic minorities and those with chronic disease or disability) by allowing them
to connect with others who live similar lives despite geographical separation. This acts as a positive influence in these people\u27s lives
though a direct link to mental illness was not shown. Overall, several important issues are raised: firstly, the lack of research that
has been conducted in the area; secondly, the gulf that exists between the generation of younger, \u27digital native\u27 generations and the
older generations who are not as engaged with social media; and finally, the huge potential that exists for the use of social media as
a protective influence for adolescents. With proper engagement, policy makers and health professionals could use social media to
connect with young people on issues like mental health

Book review: create or die: essays on the artistry of Dennis Hopper by Stephen Lee Naish
While perhaps best known as a compelling screen actor with a cult following, Dennis Hopperâs influence extended into photography, music, visual art and advertising. In Create or Die: Essays on the Artistry of Dennis Hopper, Stephen Lee Naish not only expands our understanding of his artistic reach, but also offers an illuminating example of how to trace a catalogue of unsettling enjoyments that collect around one figure â in this instance, the enigmatic Hopper, writes Alfie Bown
