Cross sections for Coulomb and nuclear breakup of three-body halo nuclei
All possible dissociation cross sections for the loosely bound three-body
halo nuclei He (n+n+) and Li (n+n+Li) are computed as
functions of target and beam energy. Both Coulomb and nuclear interactions are
included in the same theoretical framework. The measurements agree with the
calculations for energies above 100 Mev/nucleon. The largest cross sections
correspond to final states with zero or three particles for heavy and with two
neutrons for light targets.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, revte
Fragmentation channels of relativistic Be nuclei in peripheral interactions
Nuclei of Li were accelerated at the JINR Nuclotron. After the
charge-exchange reaction involving these nuclei at an external target a second
Be beam of energy 1.23A GeV was formed. This beam was used to expose
photo-emulsion chambers. The mean free path for inelastic Be interactions
in emulsion =14.00.8 cm coincides within the errors with those
for Li and Li nuclei. More than 10% of the Be events are associated
with the peripheral interactions in which the total charge of the relativistic
fragments is equal to the charge of the Be and in which charged mesons are
not produced. An unusual ratio of the isotopes is revealed in the composition
of the doubly charged Be fragments: the number of He fragments is twice
as large as that of He fragments. In 50% of peripheral interactions, a
Be nucleus decays to two doubly charged fragments. The present paper gives
the channels of the Be fragmentation to charged fragments. In 50% of
events, the Be fragmentation proceeds only to charged fragments involving
no emission of neutrons. Of them, the He+He channel dominates, the
He+d+p and Li+pchannels constitute 10% each. Two events involving no
emission of neutrons are registered in the 3-body He+t+p and He+d+d
channels. The mean free path for the coherent dissociation of relativistic
Be nuclei to He+He is 71 m. The particular features of the
relativistic Be fragmentation in such peripheral interactions are explained
by the He+He 2-cluster structure of the Be nucleus.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, conference: Conference on Physics of

Alternative evaluations of halos in nuclei
Data for the scattering of 6He, 8He, 9Li, and 11Li from hydrogen are analyzed
within a fully microscopic folding model of proton-nucleus scattering. Current
data suggest that of these only 11Li has a noticeable halo. For 6He, we have
also analysed the complementary reaction 6Li(gamma,pi)6He(gs). The available
data for that reaction support the hypothesis that 6He may not be a halo
nucleus. However, those data are scarce and there is clearly a need for more to
elicit the microscopic structure of 6He.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures (added 4 figures), added reference. Version

Comprehensive calculations of three--body breakup cross sections
We present in detail a theoretical model for fragmentation reactions of
three--body halo nuclei. The different reaction mechanisms corresponding to the
different processes are described and discussed. Coulomb and nuclear
interactions are simultaneously included and the method is therefore applicable
for any target, light, intermediate and heavy. Absolute values of many
differential cross sections are then available as function of beam energy and
target. We apply the method to fragmentation of He and Li on C, Cu
and Pb. A large variety of observables, cross sections and momentum
distributions, are computed. In almost all cases we obtain good agreement with
the available experimental data.Comment: 41 pages, 10 figures, to be published in Nucl. Phys.
Probing the 6He halo structure with elastic and inelastic proton scattering
Proton elastic scattering and inelastic scattering to the first excited state
of 6He have been measured over a wide angular range using a 40.9A MeV 6He beam.
The data have been analyzed with a fully microscopic model of proton-nucleus
scattering using 6He wave functions generated from large space shell model
calculations. The inelastic scattering data show a remarkable sensitivity to
the halo structure of 6He.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures. RevTeX. Replaced figure 3 with updated figur
First measurement of production in pp collisions at = 7 TeV
The production of the charm-strange baryon is measured for
the first time at the LHC via its semileptonic decay into e
in pp collisions at TeV with the ALICE detector. The transverse
momentum () differential cross section multiplied by the branching
ratio is presented in the interval 1 8 GeV/ at
mid-rapidity, 0.5. The transverse momentum dependence of the
baryon production relative to the D meson production is
compared to predictions of event generators with various tunes of the
hadronisation mechanism, which are found to underestimate the measured
cross-section ratio.Comment: 22 pages, 6 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 17,

Constraining the magnitude of the Chiral Magnetic Effect with Event Shape Engineering in Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76$ TeV
In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, the event-by-event variation of
the elliptic flow reflects fluctuations in the shape of the initial state
of the system. This allows to select events with the same centrality but
different initial geometry. This selection technique, Event Shape Engineering,
has been used in the analysis of charge-dependent two- and three-particle
correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV. The
two-particle correlator ,
calculated for different combinations of charges and , is
almost independent of (for a given centrality), while the three-particle
correlator
scales almost linearly both with the event and charged-particle
pseudorapidity density. The charge dependence of the three-particle correlator
is often interpreted as evidence for the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME), a parity
violating effect of the strong interaction. However, its measured dependence on
points to a large non-CME contribution to the correlator. Comparing the
results with Monte Carlo calculations including a magnetic field due to the
spectators, the upper limit of the CME signal contribution to the
three-particle correlator in the 10-50% centrality interval is found to be
26-33% at 95% confidence level.Comment: 20 pages, 6 captioned figures, 1 tables, authors from page 15,

Energy dependence of exclusive photoproduction off protons in ultra-peripheral p-Pb collisions at = 5.02 TeV
The ALICE Collaboration has measured the energy dependence of exclusive
photoproduction of vector mesons off proton targets in
ultra-peripheral p-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair
TeV. The ee and decay channels
are used to measure the cross section as a function of the rapidity of the
in the range , corresponding to an energy in the
p centre-of-mass in the interval GeV.
The measurements, which are consistent with a power law dependence of the
exclusive photoproduction cross section, are compared to previous
results from HERA and the LHC and to several theoretical models. They are found
to be compatible with previous measurements.Comment: 25 pages, 3 captioned figures, 3 tables, authors from page 19,

Measurement of the production of charm jets tagged with D mesons in pp collisions at = 7 TeV
The production of charm jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass
energy of TeV was measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN
Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is based on a data sample corresponding
to a total integrated luminosity of , collected using a
minimum-bias trigger. Charm jets are identified by the presence of a D
meson among their constituents. The D mesons are reconstructed from their
hadronic decay DK. The D-meson tagged jets are
reconstructed using tracks of charged particles (track-based jets) with the
anti- algorithm in the jet transverse momentum range
and pseudorapidity
. The fraction of charged jets containing a D-meson
increases with from to . The distribution of D-meson tagged jets as a
function of the jet momentum fraction carried by the D meson in the
direction of the jet axis () is reported for two ranges
of jet transverse momenta, and
in the intervals
and , respectively. The
data are compared with results from Monte Carlo event generators (PYTHIA 6,
PYTHIA 8 and Herwig 7) and with a Next-to-Leading-Order perturbative Quantum
Chromodynamics calculation, obtained with the POWHEG method and interfaced with
PYTHIA 6 for the generation of the parton shower, fragmentation, hadronisation
and underlying event.Comment: 29 pages, 8 captioned figures, 3 tables, authors from page 24,
