    Technology Leadership in Malaysia's High Performance School

    Headmaster as leader of the school also plays a role as a technology leader. This applies to the high performance schools (HPS) headmaster as well. The HPS excel in all aspects of education. In this study, researcher is interested in examining the role of the headmaster as a technology leader through interviews with three headmasters of high performance schools. Various topics related to technology leadership among headmaster have been discussed based on National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS-A) 2009 recommended by International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). From the conversation, the headmaster of HPS have played their leadership role of technology in schools by meeting the various components of NETS-A. In terms of challenges, the online internet is a major obstacle to promoting the use of ICT in the school. The hard work and effort by the headmaster of HPS in the field of ICT has shown a good result and outcome. The headmaster of other schools should have to emulate the great efforts HPS headmasters to create a generation of young literates

    Headmaster Technology Leadership in Malaysia Elementary Schools

    Headmaster technology leadership increasingly important in education today. This leadership, providing various positive effects to the headmaster, teachers, students and schools. Therefore, headmaster need to master this leadership to take up the leadership role of technology in schools. Based on the Headmaster Technology Leadership Model by Chang (2003), a study based on interviews conducted on 6 headmasters serving in Johor, Malaysia. This study aims to review i) the role of the headmaster in Johor as a technology leader in school ii) the challenges faced by headmaster to serve as a technology leader. Analysis of the findings from interviews found the headmaster in Johor play a role as a technology leader in the school. However, the findings have found the effort in ICT development by the headmaster in schools is different based on the needs of the school. Therefore, there is no single fixed pattern headmaster role as a technology leader. In addition, the role of the headmaster as a technology leader is not comprehensive of the five dimensions as suggested by Chang (2003). Headmaster of Johor advised to make improvements to the school led to the transformation of technology-based education

    Saliva Ontology: An ontology-based framework for a Salivaomics Knowledge Base

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The Salivaomics Knowledge Base (SKB) is designed to serve as a computational infrastructure that can permit global exploration and utilization of data and information relevant to salivaomics. SKB is created by aligning (1) the saliva biomarker discovery and validation resources at UCLA with (2) the ontology resources developed by the OBO (Open Biomedical Ontologies) Foundry, including a new Saliva Ontology (SALO).</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We define the Saliva Ontology (SALO; <url>http://www.skb.ucla.edu/SALO/</url>) as a consensus-based controlled vocabulary of terms and relations dedicated to the salivaomics domain and to saliva-related diagnostics following the principles of the OBO (Open Biomedical Ontologies) Foundry.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The Saliva Ontology is an ongoing exploratory initiative. The ontology will be used to facilitate salivaomics data retrieval and integration across multiple fields of research together with data analysis and data mining. The ontology will be tested through its ability to serve the annotation ('tagging') of a representative corpus of salivaomics research literature that is to be incorporated into the SKB.</p

    A Single Monitor Method for Voltage Sag Source Location using Hilbert Huang Transform

    Abstract: This study introduces a method for voltage sag source location based on Hilbert Huang transformed monitored current signal. Unlike the traditional method, the proposed method first transforms the recorded current during the sag event to obtain frequency-time plot (Hilbert spectra) and IMF plot before the location of voltage sag source is determined. Then based on the change in frequency and IMF the relative location of voltage sag source is obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified through simulation on 20 bus system and by comparing with an existing S-Transform based method. The results show that the presented method can determine the location of voltage sag source correctly

    Identification of traffic and roadway variables affecting safe motorcycling along urban roads

    In Malaysia, motorcycles represented 45% of all registered vehicles. Alarmingly, motorcyclists comprise 65% of total road deaths. One major reason being that these vulnerable road users get entangled with other mixed vehicles. It is appreciated that roadway design guidelines are based on the characteristics of drivers/automobiles and not riders/motorcycles. Thus, motorcyclists are expected to occupy the dynamically changing space that is available along the roadway. An effective engineering measure to tackle motorcycle safety problems in mixed traffic conditions would be to segregate the motorcycles exclusively. However, this measure is not appropriate for urban roads. One practical approach to address motorcycling safety along urban roads is to identify the traffic and road environment variables that affects safe motorcycling. This list of variables can be used to check the safe motorcycling status along segments of urban roads. The variables relating to bicyclist’s perception on the roadway segments were adopted for the variables affecting motorcycling safety along urban roads. To corroborate the adopted variables factors with the actual perception of motorcyclist, the questionnaires related to the variables affecting safe motorcycling were responded by 137 motorcyclists. The variables were identified to be pavement condition, on-street parking, traffic volume, divided/undivided roadway, left-side kerb clearance, lane width, and travelling speed. To further understand these seven variables from the aspect of motorcyclist perceptions, 14 short clips were presented to 483 motorcyclists who rated each clip based on their perception of safe motorcycling. Results found that the odds of feeling unsafe riding on bad pavement is 61.5 times greater than the odds of riding on good pavement. The odds of unsafe motorcycling along roads with on-street parking is 43.2 times higher than without on- street parking. Overall, it infers that the maintenance of road pavement conditions must be of high priority to the local authorities followed by issues of on-street parking along urban links

This project of calculating the value of Pi:in Mathernatic is developed using a.NET based grid computing application middleware which is Aichemi and is written using C# programming language. The result of this development is to compute the value of Pi in Mathematic in a very short respond time where meet the goal of grid computing to moveresponse times from days to hours/minutes/seconds

    Erlotinib as salvage treatment after failure to first-line Gefitinib in non-small cell lung cancer

    Purpose Chemotherapy is the mainstay treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Gefitinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI), has been recently shown to be effective as a first-line treatment in Asian patients with advanced NSCLC, especially for those with favourable clinical features such as female, non-smoker and adenocarcinoma. However, resistance to gefitinib ensues invariably and there is little evidence as for the effectiveness of subsequent salvage treatment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of erlotinib, another EGFR-TKI, after failed first-line use of gefitinib. Method Retrospective review of NSCLC patients with favourable clinical features who received gefitinib as firstline treatment and subsequent salvage treatment with erlotinib. Results A total of 21 patients with NSCLC were included in the study. Among them, 18 (85.7%) patients had disease control with gefitinib and 12 (57.1%) patients with salvage erlotinib. There was an association between the disease control with gefitinib and erlotinib (p = 0.031). The disease control rate of erlotinib was independent of the chemotherapy use between the two EGFR-TKIs. Conclusion For NSCLC patients with favourable clinical features, erlotinib was effective in those who had prior disease control with first-line gefitinib. © Springer-Verlag 2009.published_or_final_versionSpringer Open Choice, 01 Dec 201
