Lazy training of radial basis neural networks
Proceeding of: 16th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2006. Athens, Greece, September 10-14, 2006Usually, training data are not evenly distributed in the input space. This makes non-local methods, like Neural Networks, not very accurate in those cases. On the other hand, local methods have the problem of how to know which are the best examples for each test pattern. In this work, we present a way of performing a trade off between local and non-local methods. On one hand a Radial Basis Neural Network is used like learning algorithm, on the other hand a selection of the training patterns is used for each query. Moreover, the RBNN initialization algorithm has been modified in a deterministic way to eliminate any initial condition influence. Finally, the new method has been validated in two time series domains, an artificial and a real world one. This article has been financed by the Spanish founded research MEC project OPLINK::UC3M, Ref: TIN2005-08818-C04-0
Current health issues in Korean adolescents
During the adolescent period, they experience rapid physical, emotional, cognitive developments while they establish their lifestyle and habitual routines that strongly influence adult health and life. Recent rapid economic growth in Korea, and the earlier onset of physical, sexual, and psychological maturation of adolescents, has resulted in changes in the health status of adolescents from many years ago. Risk-taking behaviors such as drinking alcohol, smoking, and sexual experiences are critical issues that affect the health of, adolescents. Therefore, it is important for pediatricians to note the that risk-taking behaviors of adolescents in Korea that are caused by individual psychosocial factors. This review article illustrates the current health status of Korean adolescents and provides an overview of risk-taking behaviors, to inform pediatricians about some of the key issues
Simultaneous measurement of CO <inf>2</inf> sorption and swelling of phosphate-based ionic liquid
The development of alternative CO 2 capture solvents such as ionic liquids (ILs) and nanoparticle organic hybrid materials (NOHMs) have provided interesting options for CO 2 capture. In this study, CO 2 interactions with 1,3-dimethylimidazolium dimethylphosphate ([MMIM]DMP), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dimethylphosphate ([EMIM]DMP) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium diethylphosphate ([EMIM]DEP) that contain inorganic ester groups based on phosphate, were investigated using ATR FT-IR spectroscopy. CO 2 -induced swelling, CO 2 diffusivity and CO 2 capture capacity were simultaneously measured to identify CO 2 capture mechanisms, kinetics and diffusion behaviors as a function of the alkyl chain length of the cation. Henry's law constants of CO 2 were found to be in the range of 4–11 MPa, which is in agreement with those reported in other studies
