The acyclic group dichotomy
Two extremal classes of acyclic groups are discussed. For an arbitrary group
G, there is always a homomorphism from an acyclic group of cohomological
dimension 2 onto the maximum perfect subgroup of G, and there is always an
embedding of G in a binate (hence acyclic) group. In the other direction, there
are no nontrivial homomorphisms from binate groups to groups of finite
cohomological dimension. Binate groups are shown to be of significance in
relation to a number of important K-theoretic isomorphism conjectures.Comment: To appea
Hermitian K-theory and 2-regularity for totally real number fields
We completely determine the 2-primary torsion subgroups of the hermitian
K-groups of rings of 2-integers in totally real 2-regular number fields. The
result is almost periodic with period 8. We also identify the homotopy fibers
of the forgetful and hyperbolic maps relating hermitian and algebraic K-theory.
The result is then exactly periodic of period 8. In both the orthogonal and
symplectic cases, we prove the 2-primary hermitian Quillen-Lichtenbaum
conjecture.Comment: To appear in Mathematische Annale
Higher algebraic -groups and -split sequences
In this paper, we use -split sequences and derived equivalences
to provide formulas for calculation of higher algebraic -groups (or mod-
-groups) of certain matrix subrings which cover tiled orders, rings related
to chains of Glaz-Vasconcelos ideals, and some other classes of rings. In our
results, we do not assume any homological requirements on rings and ideals
under investigation, and therefore extend sharply many existing results of this
type in the algebraic -theory literature to a more general context.Comment: 20 page
