Memory Function versus Binary Correlator in Additive Markov Chains

We study properties of the additive binary Markov chain with short and long-range correlations. A new approach is suggested that allows one to express global statistical properties of a binary chain in terms of the so-called memory function. The latter is directly connected with the pair correlator of a chain via the integral equation that is analyzed in great detail. To elucidate the relation between the memory function and pair correlator, some specific cases were considered that may have important applications in different fields.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figur

Allen Linear (Interval) Temporal Logic --Translation to LTL and Monitor Synthesis--

    Get PDF
The relationship between two well established formalisms for temporal reasoning is first investigated, namely between Allen's interval algebra (or Allen's temporal logic, abbreviated \ATL) and linear temporal logic (\LTL). A discrete variant of \ATL is defined, called Allen linear temporal logic (\ALTL), whose models are \omega-sequences of timepoints, like in \LTL. It is shown that any \ALTL formula can be linearly translated into an equivalent \LTL formula, thus enabling the use of \LTL techniques and tools when requirements are expressed in \ALTL. %This translation also implies the NP-completeness of \ATL satisfiability. Then the monitoring problem for \ALTL is discussed, showing that it is NP-complete despite the fact that the similar problem for \LTL is EXPSPACE-complete. An effective monitoring algorithm for \ALTL is given, which has been implemented and experimented with in the context of planning applications

Index of refraction of a photonic crystal of carbon nanotubes and homogenization of optically anisotropic periodic composites

We consider the long-wavelength limit for a periodic arrangement of carbon nanotubes. Using the Fourier expansion method we develop an effective-medium theory for photonic crystal of aligned optically anisotropic cylinders. Exact analytical formulas for the effective dielectric constants for the E and H eigenmodes are obtained for arbitrary 2D Bravais lattice and arbitrary cross-section of anisotropic cylinders. It is shown that depending on the symmetry of the unit cell photonic crystal of anisotropic cylinders behaves in the low-frequency limit like uniaxial or biaxial optical crystal. The developed theory of homogenization is in a good agreement with existing experimental results for the dielectric tensor of photonic crystals of carbon nanotubes

    Metafluid with anisotropic dynamic mass

We show that a fluid filling the space between metallic cylinders arranged in a two-dimensional lattice exhibits anisotropic dynamic mass for sound waves propagating through the lattice, if its unit cell is anisotropic. Using the plane-waves expansion method we derive (in the long wavelength limit) a formula for the effective mass tensor of the metafluid. The proposed formula is very general — it is valid for arbitrary Bravais lattices and arbitrary filling fractions of the cylinders. We apply our method to a periodic structure with very high anisotropy, when other known methods fail. In particular, we calculate the effective mass tensor for sound waves in air with embedded lattice of aluminum cylinders having rectangular cross sections, and obtain excellent agreement with experiment. The proposed method of calculation may find numerous applications for tailoring of metafluids with prescribed anisotropy

Plasma focus installation as a tool for the study of the interaction of high power plasma streams with condensed matter

In this work the possibilities of the use of the high-current discharges of Plasma Focus type for the investigation of the effect of plasma on the materials are discussed. From this point of view the properties of plasma streams and ion beams arising in the PF discharges are studied. Here, as an example of an application of the Plasma Focus device (PF), we studied the influence on Vanadium (perspective material in nuclear power engineering) a cumulative streams producing in the P

The work presents the laser investigation of a plasma focus discharge in neon. This investigation was done in connection with the recently discussed possibility of the use of such type of discharges for the creation of the soft X-ray source and its application for the compression of the solid targets (liners). Some features of a plasma focus discharge in 2.8 MJ Plasma Focus such as a complicated structure of current-plasma sheath (CPS), its relation to soft X-ray (SXR) pulse emitted from a pinching region were studied by developed laser diagnostics.
