    The Comparison of Creatinine and Cystatin C Value in Preeclampsia Severity and Neonatal Outcome

    Objectives: to compare the levels of creatinine and cystatin C with the severity of preeclampsia, and assess neonatal outcomes.Materials and Methods: Creatinine, cystatin C, and neonatal outcomes were assesed in 17 normotensive samples, 17 samples of mild preeclampsia and 17 samples of severe preeclampsia. Analysis of data with statistical tests of ANOVA and t test differences between 2 proportions.Results: The mean levels of creatinine in the normotensive group, mild preeclampsia, severe preeclampsia are 0.56 mg/dL, 0.67 mg/ dL, and 0.75 mg/dL, p=0.138; While on cystatin C are 0.82 mg/L, 1.03 mg/L and 1.32 mg/L, p=0.000. The adverse neonatal out-come wasn't found in the normotensive group. In mild pre-eclampsia obtained 1 preterm birth and 1 intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), whereas in severe preeclampsia obtained 3 babies born preterm, 1 IUFD, and 1 intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).Conclusion: levels of cystatin C was increased significantly in line with increased severity of preeclampsia, whereas creatinine was not increased significantly. Cystatin C is better than crea-tinine as a marker of renal dysfunction in preeclampsia patients. There was an increase in adverse neonatal outcomes in the group of preeclampsia

    The dichloromethanolic fraction of keladi tikus (Typhonium flagelliforme) extract and the expression of p21 and caspase-3 of MCF-7 breast cancer cell-lineBackground: Breast cancer has a high degree of heterogeneity and problems in therapy, such as insensitive to antiproliferation signal and able to escape from apoptosis program. Typhonium flagelliforme (Lodd), Blume (Araceae) more commonly known as keladi tikus in Indonesia, often used as alternative in treating cancer, including breast cancer. The objective of study is proving the dichloromethanolic fraction of Typhonium flagelliforme tuber extracts influence on the expression of caspase-3 and p21 of MCF-7 cell-line that have deletion in CASP-3 gene.Methods: This study adapts laboratory experimental in-vitro in cells-line MCF-7, with “post test control group only design” and divided into two groups, were incubated in 5h, 10h and 20h. The control group received no other treatment. The treatment group received the dichloromethanolic fraction of Typhonium flagelliforme tuber extracts in IC50. Starting with cytotoxicity assay using MTT to determine the IC50, followed by Immunocytochemical analysis to observe the expression of p21 and caspase-3.Results: Paired sample T test shows a significant differences in treatment groups compared with the controls (p<0.05), namely an increase in the expression of nuclear p21 and caspase-3 on 20h incubation.Conclusion: There were increased in the expression of caspase-3 and nuclear p21, as well as depleted the cytoplasmic of p21 on MCF-7 cell-line that have deletion in CASP-3 in treatment by tuber extract of Typhonium flagelliforme dichloromethanolic fraction

    Pemberian Virgin Coconut Oil untuk Meningkatkan Jumlah dan Motilitas Spermatozoa: Studi pada Tikus Wistar dengan Diet Tinggi Lemak

    Obesity is one of several causes of infertility in men, this accurs because off changes lifestyle, accurring in the diet. Consuming foods high in cholesterol and fatty foods can trigger obesity. High-fat diet can increase the production of free radicals that have a negative impact on the quality and amount of sperm motility. Virgin Coconut Oil contains lauric acid and polyphenols, which can capture free radicals. Objective of this study was to prove that Virgin Coconut Oil administration might increase the number and motility of spermatozoa in Wistar rats with high-fat diet (HFD). The study using Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. Thirty male Wistar rats aged 2 months and weighing 150-200 grams were divided into 5 groups: negative control (normal diet), positive control (HFD), first treatment group (HFD with VCO 1 ml/day), second treatment group (HFD with VCO 1.2 ml /day), and third treatment group (HFD with VCO 2 ml/day). The mean number of sperm in three treatment groups increase compared to the positive control group (375 million/ml), P1 (566.67 million/ml), P2 (510 million/ml) and P3 (500 million/ml), however statistically was went significant (p = 0.1). The mean percentage of sperm motility in the 3 treatment groups increase compared to the positive control group, P1 (43.33%), p2 (36%) and P3 (32.50%). however, statistically was not sinificant (p = 0.2). Virgin Coconut Oil cannot increase the number and motility of spermatozoa in male Wistar rats with hig-fat diet (p &gt; 0.05)

    The aim of this experiment was to evaluate histology and physical variables of buffalo meat at different sex and ages. Thirty head of buffaloes were used in this experiment. Muscle fiber diameter, fasciculus diameter, thickness of connective tissue, pH, water holding capacity, Warner-Bratzler shear force and cooking loss were measured in this experiment. Analysis of variance of randomized factorial design was used to analyse the data. The differences were analysed by Tukey test. The result showed that muscle fiber diameter was influenced by ages. The difference muscle fiber diameter among ages indicated that 8-12 mo and 1.5 yr old have smaller diameter compared to three year old (P&lt;0.05), but there was no differences between two, three and four years old. The fasciculus diameter, thickness of connective tissue, tenderness, pH value, water holding capacity, and cooking lost indicated no significant found in all stage of age and sex of samples.     Studi Kultur Anther pada Aksesi Anthurium Lokal

    Kultur anther merupakan salah satu terobosan teknologi dalam kultur jaringan untuk menyediakantanaman homozigot dalam waktu yang singkat. Aplikasi kultur anther pada aksesi Anthurium lokal dapat dilakukanuntuk menyediakan tetua homozigot yang tahan terhadap penyakit hawar daun. Penelitian bertujuan menguji responsbeberapa aksesi Anthurium lokal terseleksi dalam kultur anther dan kemampuan regenerasi kalus pada berbagai mediaregenerasi. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium dan Rumah Kaca Balai Penelitian Tanaman Hias dari bulan Januarihingga Desember 2006. Anther diisolasi dari aksesi Anthurium lokal Cipanas Merah, Cipanas Putih, Cihideung-Lembang Merah, Sukabumi Putih, dan Salatiga Putih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa aksesi Anthuriumlokal memberikan respons yang berbeda terhadap kemampuan induksi kalus. Aksesi Cipanas Putih merupakan aksesiyang paling responsif dibandingkan aksesi lainnya dengan persentase pembentukan kalus tertinggi (5,2%). Kalus yangterbentuk dalam kultur anther memiliki kemampuan adaptasi yang baik terhadap inkubasi terang dan tumbuh lebihcepat dibandingkan dengan aksesi yang lain. Kalus hasil kultur anther aksesi Cipanas Putih memiliki kemampuanregenerasi yang tercepat (1,5-2,5 bulan) dan jumlah bakal tunas terbanyak (2,2-5,7 tunas). Media MMS-IIIR danMMS-TBN merupakan media yang sesuai untuk regenerasi tunas dari kalus hasil kultur anther aksesi Cipanas Putih.Media tersebut juga sesuai untuk inisiasi kalu

    Pembelajaran Jaringan Saraf Tiruan materi metode Hopfield bagi sebagian mahasiswa dirasa sulit untuk dipahami terutama dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan perhitungan dengan metode jaringan Hopfield dan algoritma Hopfield. Prestasi belajar mahasiswa sering diindikasikan dengan permasalahan belajar dalam memahami materi. Kegiatan belajar di dalam kelas dengan lisan, tulisan bahkan slide powerpoint dapat menyebabkan pembelajaran menjadi kurang menarik dan cenderung membosankan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membantu dalam kegiatan perkuliahan jaringan saraf tiruan. Dengan adanya media pembelajaran berbasis multimedia ini diharapkan mahasiswa dapat lebih aktif dalam kegiatan belajar khususnya mengenai materi metode Hopfield.Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah aplikasi multimedia sebagai media pembelajaran Jaringan Saraf Tiruan metode Hopfield yang sesuai dengan SAP mata kuliah Jaringan Saraf Tiruan. Metode penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan mengidentifikasikan permasalahan, pengumpulan data melalui Studi literatur, kuisioner dan wawancara. Aplikasi disusun dengan prosedur yang mencakup analisis user, analisis kebutuhan user, analisis kebutuhan sistem, merancang konsep, merancang isi, merancang naskah, merancang grafik, memproduksi sistem, dan pengujian sistem.Hasil penelitian ini adalah aplikasi multimedia sebagai Media Pembelajaran Jaringan Saraf Tiruan Metode Hopfield. Aplikasi telah diuji coba menggunakan black box test dan alpha test. Berdasarkan hasil uji coba tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi pembelajaran ini dapat digunakan sebagai alat bantu pembelajaran Jaringan Saraf Tiruan Metode Hopfield
