    Analisis Efisiensi Teknis dan Faktor Penentu Inefisiensi USAha Penggemukan Sapi Potong di Kabupaten Gorontalo

    Secara umum budidaya penggemukan sapi potong di Provinsi Gorontalo dikelola oleh peternak rakyat dengan ciri-ciri diantaranya produktivitas USAha rendah, skala USAha kecil dan pengelolaan tradisional. Usaha ini menjadi unggulan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi daging sapi. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis tingkat efisiensi teknis dan faktor penentu inefisiensi USAha penggemukan sapi potong. Pengambilan data dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Tolangohula, Kabupaten Gorontalo pada bulan Oktober-November 2013. Penelitian menggunakan data primer yang diperoleh dari 30 peternak yang dipilih dengan metode accidental sampling. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan fungsi produksi stokhastic frontier. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa USAha penggemukan sapi potong layak diusahakan namun capaian efisiensi teknis USAha sapi potong masih rendah dengan nilai indeks efisiensi rata-rata sebesar 0,690. Faktor yang mempengaruhi produksi sapi potong yaitu tenaga kerja, pakan hijauan dan bobot bakalan. Sementara inefisiensi USAhatani ditentukan oleh status kepemilikan sapi dan intensitas penyuluhan. Oleh karena itu, akses terhadap sumber informasi seperti pelatihan teknis dan akses terhadap peningkatan jumlah sapi melalui peningkatan modal perlu terus dikembangkan

    Pengaruh Produktivitas terhadap Harga Pokok Kebun Karet di Jawa Tengah

    Harga pokok sangat berpengaruh dalam daya saing dan perhitungan laba rugi Perusahaan. Oleh karena itu, informasi biaya dan harga pokok sangat diperlukan untuk pengambilan keputusan di sebuah Perusahaan. Dengan kondisi ekonomi yang kurang baik seperti sekarang, kenaikan biaya produksi di perkebunan karet turut berperan dalam meningkatkan harga pokok, di sisi lain harga jual karet mengalami penurunan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh produktivitas terhadap harga pokok perkebunan karet. Data yang dianalisis berupa data sekunder yang bersumber dari dua belas kebun yang ada di Jawa Tengah pada tahun 2013-2015. Harga yang dimaksud adalah harga pokok riil di tingkat kebun yang telah di deflator dengan IHK. Penelitian ini menggunakan Model Regresi Linear Sederhana untuk mengetahui hubungan produktivitas terhadap harga pokok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap kenaikan produktivitas perkebunan karet sebesar 1 Kg/Ha/tahun, akan menurunkan harga pokok riil sebesar IDR 4,24,- atau harga pokok nominal IDR 5,11,-. Setiap kenaikan produktivitas kebun karet sebesar 1% akan menurunkan harga pokok riil sebesar 0,43%. Oleh karena, setiap kenaikan produktivitas perkebunan karet dapat menurunkan harga pokok, maka diperlukan upaya-upaya peningkatan produktivitas secara terus menerus

    Adventitious root formation in branch cuttings of Taxus wallichiana Zucc.(Himalayan yew): A clonal approach to conserve the scarce resource

    Himalayan yew (Taxus wallichiana Zucc.), is an economically valuable plant and critically endangered due to overexploitation for the isolation of Taxol,an exciting anticancer drug from its bark and leaves. Since the species is unisexual and due to its long seed dormancy period and rapid loss of viability coupled with low survival percentage, its natural regeneration from seeds is very poor. As the seed raised plants add little growth, propagation by stem cuttings was tried under natural conditions and a considerable success was achieved after making use of different auxins (Indole-3- Acetic Acid-IAA, Indole Butyric Acid-IBA and Naphthalene Acetic Acid-NAA) in different concentrations. A Randomized block design (RBD) was adopted for laying the experiment of the present study. Of the ten treatments studied, IBA at 500ppm performed best of all the treatments and registered higher callusing percentage, rooting percentage, number of roots and length of roots in the juvenile shoot cuttings of the species. The results achieved through the application ofplant growth regulators (PGRs)by way of adventitious root formation (ARF) could be useful for the management of this understory coniferous tree species, whether for conservation, habitat restoration or for the production of Taxol,a promising anti-cancer agent. The technique evolved will be the most handy, quickest, inexpensive and can be applied any where in its natural habitat for the restoration and restocking of this valuable plant, which is otherwise facing the peril of extinction throughout the range of its distribution including Indian Himalayas

    Total cholesterol and triglycerides status in autistic spectrum disorder children: a case-control study on Bangladeshi children

    Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition marked by challenges in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors. The association between lipid profiles, particularly total cholesterol and triglycerides, and ASD in children is a growing focus in pediatric health research. This study aimed to assess the total cholesterol and triglycerides status in autistic spectrum disorder children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the department of physiology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka from March 2014 to January 2015 with 100 male children, half in a healthy control group (group A) and the other half diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (group B). Results: In this study, no significant correlation was found between the groups for age (p=0.94) or BMI (p=0.29). The mean (±SE) serum total cholesterol levels were 146±1.70 mg/dl in group A and 145.00±3.77 mg/dl in group B, showing no significant difference between the two groups (p=0.885). But, the mean (±SE) serum triglyceride levels were 86.14±3.28 mg/dl in group A and 107.74±7.91 mg/dl in group B, with significantly higher levels compared to group A (p<0.01). Conclusions: Although there is no significant difference in serum total cholesterol levels between healthy children and those with autistic spectrum disorder, there is a significant difference in serum triglyceride levels. Therefore, further studies are needed to provide a clearer understanding of the lipid profile comparison

    Surgical resection of Haglund deformity by lateral approach: our institutional experience on 29 heels

    Background: Haglund deformity is a common cause of posterior heel pain and consists of a constellation of soft tissue and osseous abnormalities. The treatment starts with conservative approach and ends with surgical treatment in case conservative treatment fails and the symptoms are bothersome. Different surgical procedures and approaches have been used for this deformity. But in the literature, the results have been inconsistent. In this study we evaluated the clinical and functional outcome of osteotomy of the calcaneal tuberosity with debridement of the retrocalcaneal bursa and the Achilles tendon using a lateral approach at our institute.Methods: A total of 29 feet in 25 patients that underwent surgical procedure from August 2013 to March 2017 at our institute were included in this study. The clinical and functional outcome was evaluated using AOFAS ankle-hind foot scale.Results: The mean AOFAS ankle-hind foot score had improved by 32 points from the pre-operative mean score, with a mean score of 86 at the final follow up of one year. Five out of 29 operated feet had superficial surgical site infection in the postoperative period that responded to antibiotic therapy and regular antiseptic dressings. One patient had local betadine allergy.Conclusions: We conclude lateral approach to debridement and calcaneal tuberosity resection is an effective method with good clinical and functional outcome in patients with refractory Haglund deformity.

    Performance Analysis of Solar Adsorption Cooling System - Effect of Position of Heat Storage Tank

    An insulated storage tank has been added with adsorption cooling system run by solar heat collected by CPC panel. It has been expected and seen that the storage tank has a vital contribution in the performance of the chiller. The storage tank is connected with a solar heat driven single stage two bed basic adsorption chillers activated with silica gel-water pair in two ways. The tank is connected in such a way that (i) the solar collectors supply hot water to the desorption bed, the outflow of the desorber is collected in the reserve tank. The reserve tank supplies water to the collector and complete the heat transfer cycle. (ii) The solar collector supply hot water which is collected in the storage tank first and then supplied to the desorber. The outflow of the desorber is carried to the collector again. Comparative studies have been conducted at the steady state for both of the systems with heat storage. It has been observed that the system is robust with design (i) while with design (ii) performance enhances beyond the sunset time with heat storage

    Analisis Kelayakan Ekonomi Berbagai Sistem Sadap pada Panel Bo Tanaman Karet (Studi Kasus Kebun Batujamus Jawa Tengah)

    Fluktuasi harga karet merupakan fenomena yang tidak dapat dihindari, namun pebisnis karet senantiasa berusaha bertahan agar biaya produksi rendah dan produktivitas kebun meningkat. Salah satu USAha yang dilakukan adalah penurunan frekuensi sadap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kelayakan ekonomi berbagai sistem sadap di panel BO dengan variasi frekuensi sadap dan stimulansia yang diharapkan mampu menurunkan biaya penyadapan dan penggunaan tenaga penyadap. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Batujamus milik Perusahaan negara mulai Oktober 2015 hingga Oktober 2016. Penelitian disusun dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap dengan 11 perlakuan sistem sadap dan 3 ulangan. Analisis anggaran parsial digunakan untuk menilai kelayakan ekonomi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem sadap yang layak untuk diterapkan adalah sistem sadap S/2d3.ET2.5%.Ga.1.m/3, S/2 d3.ET2.5%.Ga.1.2w, S/2 d3.ET4.0%.Ga.1.2w, S/2 d4.ET4.0%.Ga.1.2w dan S/2 d4.ET5.0%.Ga.1.2w. Adapun sistem sadap S/2 d3.ET5.0%.Ga.1.2w, frekuensi sadap d5 dan d6 tidak layak secara ekonomi
