Synthesizing Imperative Programs from Examples Guided by Static Analysis
We present a novel algorithm that synthesizes imperative programs for
introductory programming courses. Given a set of input-output examples and a
partial program, our algorithm generates a complete program that is consistent
with every example. Our key idea is to combine enumerative program synthesis
and static analysis, which aggressively prunes out a large search space while
guaranteeing to find, if any, a correct solution. We have implemented our
algorithm in a tool, called SIMPL, and evaluated it on 30 problems used in
introductory programming courses. The results show that SIMPL is able to solve
the benchmark problems in 6.6 seconds on average.Comment: The paper is accepted in Static Analysis Symposium (SAS) '17. The

Study of one-dimensional nature of (Sr,Ba)_2Cu(PO_4)_2 and BaCuP_2O_7 via 31P NMR
The magnetic behavior of the low-dimensional phosphates (Sr,Ba)_2 Cu(PO_4)_2
and BaCuP_2O_7 was investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility and ^{31}P
nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements. We present here the NMR shift
K(T), the spin-lattice 1/T_1 and spin-spin 1/T_2 relaxation-rate data over a
wide temperature range 0.02 K < T < 300 K. The T-dependence of the NMR K(T) is
well described by the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain model with an
intrachain exchange of J/k_B = 165 K, 151 K, and 108 K in Sr_2Cu(PO_4)_2,
Ba_2Cu(PO_4)_2, and BaCuP_2O_7, respectively. Our measurements suggest the
presence of magnetic ordering at 0.8 K in BaCuP_2O_7 (J/k_B = 108 K). For all
the samples, we find that 1/T_1 is nearly T-independent at low-temperatures (1
K < T < 10 K), which is theoretically expected for 1D chains when relaxation is
dominated by fluctuations of the staggered susceptibility. At high
temperatures, 1/T_1 varies nearly linearly with temperature

Ultrasoft NLL Running of the Nonrelativistic O(v) QCD Quark Potential
Using the nonrelativistic effective field theory vNRQCD, we determine the
contribution to the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) running of the effective
quark-antiquark potential at order v (1/mk) from diagrams with one potential
and two ultrasoft loops, v being the velocity of the quarks in the c.m. frame.
The results are numerically important and complete the description of ultrasoft
next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) order effects in heavy quark pair

Once more on the Witten index of 3d supersymmetric YM-CS theory
The problem of counting the vacuum states in the supersymmetric 3d
Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons theory is reconsidered. We resolve the controversy
between its original calculation by Witten at large volumes and the calculation
based on the evaluation of the effective Lagrangian in the small volume limit.
We show that the latter calculation suffers from uncertainties associated with
the singularities in the moduli space of classical vacua where the
Born-Oppenheimer approximation breaks down. We also show that these
singularities can be accurately treated in the Hamiltonian Born-Oppenheimer
method, where one has to match carefully the effective wave functions on the
Abelian valley and the wave functions of reduced non-Abelian QM theory near the
singularities. This gives the same result as original Witten's calculation.Comment: 27 page

A back and forth route connecting these Liouville Type I separable systems is unveiled. It is shown how the gnomonic projection and its inverse map allow us to pass from a Liouville Type I separable system with a spherical configuration space
to its Liouville Type I partners where the configuration space is a plane and back. Several selected spherical separable systems and their planar cousins are discussed in a classical context
Observations of mortality of fur seals between 1998 and 2005 in Tasmania, Australia
Because of their often close relationship with the human environment, the deaths of marine mammals are often documented, particularly if
there are links to anthropogenic influences. Between 1998 and 2005 a total of 504 dead Australian Fur Seals, Arctocephalus pusillus doriferus, and New Zealand Fur Seals, Arctocephalus forsteri, were reported in Tasmanian waters. Ninety individuals (18%) were dependent unweaned pups that had been displaced from their natal colonies. Of the 209 adult or subadult seals for which the cause of death could be ascertained,anthropogenic activities were identified as being responsible for the deaths of 172 individuals (82%), with 112 (53%) associated with fish farms. Most fish farm-related deaths occurred during the winter when adult and subadult seals were away from breeding colonies and seal numbers are highest around farms. The next most common cause of death was from firearms (41 individuals - 20%). Death of adults and subadults by natural causes accounted for 37 animals, or 18% of all deaths for which the cause was identified. Excluding pups, most seals were identified as Australian (80%) or New Zealand fur seals (3%). The remainder (17%) were identified as fur seals but not to species. Males were most common (58%), with only 6% identified as females; the sex of 36% could not be determined. Of the males, 106 (26%) were adults and 98 (24%) were subadults or juveniles
Quantization of Integrable Systems and a 2d/4d Duality
We present a new duality between the F-terms of supersymmetric field theories
defined in two- and four-dimensions respectively. The duality relates N=2
supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions, deformed by an
Omega-background in one plane, to N=(2,2) gauged linear sigma-models in two
dimensions. On the four dimensional side, our main example is N=2 SQCD with
gauge group SU(L) and 2L fundamental flavours. Using ideas of Nekrasov and
Shatashvili, we argue that the Coulomb branch of this theory provides a
quantization of the classical Heisenberg SL(2) spin chain. Agreement with the
standard quantization via the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz implies the existence of
an isomorphism between the chiral ring of the 4d theory and that of a certain
two-dimensional theory. The latter can be understood as the worldvolume theory
on a surface operator/vortex string probing the Higgs branch of the same 4d
theory. We check the proposed duality by explicit calculation at low orders in
the instanton expansion. One striking consequence is that the Seiberg-Witten
solution of the 4d theory is captured by a one-loop computation in two
dimensions. The duality also has interesting connections with the AGT
conjecture, matrix models and topological string theory where it corresponds to
