Sarcopenia as a Prognostic Factor of Hepatotoxicity and Lower Survival Rate in Chemotherapy of Pancreatic Cancer
Aim. Evaluation of sarcopenia’s effect on hepatotoxicity in patients with locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer (PC).Materials and methods. A retro-prospective study included 66 patients (30 men and 36 women) with locally advanced and metastatic PC receiving chemotherapy treatment in the form of gemcitabine monotherapy and in combination with platinum, taxanes, fluoropyrimidines in standard chemotherapy protocols. Sarcopenia was observed using computer tomography with intravenous bolus contrast and nonionic contrast medium with iodine concentration 350 mg/ml. Muscle tissue area (cm2) was estimated with two consecutive axial slices at the level of L3 lumbar vertebra. Sarcopenia was determined with the L3 skeletal muscle index (L3SMI) calculated as a ratio of skeletal muscle area at the L3 vertebra to patient’s height squared. Condition was marked as sarcopenia at L3SMI values of 52.4 cm2/m2 in men and 38.5 cm2/m2 in women.Results. Hepatotoxicity was revealed in 57.5% (n = 38) of PC patients receiving chemotherapy, with 60.87% (n = 28) of them having sarcopenia. In patients with sarcopenia and no toxic effects, the total survival median was 41 months, whilst hepatotoxicity combined with sarcopenia was associated with almost a 3 times lower median survival (14.1 months). A better survival trend was observed in a polychemotherapy cohort without sarcopenia, with the total survival median of 17.0 months compared to 15.2 months in such patients with sarcopenia (p = 0.781). A positive trend towards survival was observed in a hepatotoxicity-negative cohort, with the total survival median of 18.7 months compared to 16.9 months in PC patients with toxic side effects (p = 0.174).Conclusions. Sarcopenia may be used as a prognostic factor of lower survival rate and higher hepatotoxic effect of chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer
Measurements of , K, p and spectra in proton-proton interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 GeV/c with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS
Measurements of inclusive spectra and mean multiplicities of ,
K, p and produced in inelastic p+p interactions at
incident projectile momenta of 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 GeV/c ( 6.3,
7.7, 8.8, 12.3 and 17.3 GeV, respectively) were performed at the CERN Super
Proton Synchrotron using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer.
Spectra are presented as function of rapidity and transverse momentum and are
compared to predictions of current models. The measurements serve as the
baseline in the NA61/SHINE study of the properties of the onset of
deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter
Multiplicity and transverse momentum fluctuations in inelastic proton-proton interactions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron
Measurements of multiplicity and transverse momentum fluctuations of charged
particles were performed in inelastic p+p interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80 and
158 GeV/c beam momentum. Results for the scaled variance of the multiplicity
distribution and for three strongly intensive measures of multiplicity and
transverse momentum fluctuations \$\Delta[P_{T},N]\$, \$\Sigma[P_{T},N]\$ and
\$\Phi_{p_T}\$ are presented. For the first time the results on fluctuations
are fully corrected for experimental biases. The results on multiplicity and
transverse momentum fluctuations significantly deviate from expectations for
the independent particle production. They also depend on charges of selected
hadrons. The string-resonance Monte Carlo models EPOS and UrQMD do not describe
the data. The scaled variance of multiplicity fluctuations is significantly
higher in inelastic p+p interactions than in central Pb+Pb collisions measured
by NA49 at the same energy per nucleon. This is in qualitative disagreement
with the predictions of the Wounded Nucleon Model. Within the statistical
framework the enhanced multiplicity fluctuations in inelastic p+p interactions
can be interpreted as due to event-by-event fluctuations of the fireball energy
and/or volume.Comment: 18 pages, 12 figure
Measurements of , , , and proton production in proton-carbon interactions at 31 GeV/ with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS
Measurements of hadron production in p+C interactions at 31 GeV/c are
performed using the NA61/ SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. The analysis is
based on the full set of data collected in 2009 using a graphite target with a
thickness of 4% of a nuclear interaction length. Inelastic and production cross
sections as well as spectra of , , p, and are
measured with high precision. These measurements are essential for improved
calculations of the initial neutrino fluxes in the T2K long-baseline neutrino
oscillation experiment in Japan. A comparison of the NA61/SHINE measurements
with predictions of several hadroproduction models is presented.Comment: v1 corresponds to the preprint CERN-PH-EP-2015-278; v2 matches the

Метастатическое поражение кожи при меланоме
In order to evaluate the incidence, clinical features and prognosis of cutaneous tumor metastases, the records of adult patients with melanoma treated over a thirteen year period were examined. The diagnosis of Melanoma skin metastases was established in 221 (11,3%) of 1,948 patients. Each diagnosis was histologically confirmed by evaluation of both the primary tumor and the skin. Metastatic cutaneous melanoma presented with a wide variety of lesions: satellite, thrombophlebitis-like, inflammatory and nodular. In some cases the combination of satellite and nodular metastases was observed. Cancer patients with cutaneous metastases have a poor prognosis: the median survival of these patients is reduced by almost a half in comparison with cancer patients without cutaneous metastases.

meson production in inelastic p+p interactions at 31, 40 and 80 GeV/c beam momentum measured by NA61/SHINE at the CERN SPS
Measurements of meson production via its decay mode
in inelastic interactions at incident projectile momenta of 31,
40 and 80 GeV/ ( and GeV, respectively) are
presented. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN
Super Proton Synchrotron. Double-differential distributions were obtained in
transverse momentum and rapidity. The mean multiplicities of mesons
were determined to be at
31 GeV/, at 40
GeV/ and at 80
GeV/. The results on production are compared with model
calculations (Epos1.99, SMASH 2.0 and PHSD) as well as with published data from
other experiments.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2106.0753
Production of Λ-hyperons in inelastic p+p interactions at 158 GeV/c
Inclusive production of Λ -hyperons was measured with the large acceptance NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS in inelastic p+p interactions at beam momentum of 158 GeV/c . Spectra of transverse momentum and transverse mass as well as distributions of rapidity and x F are presented. The mean multiplicity was estimated to be 0.120±0.006(stat.)±0.010(sys.). The results are compared with previous measurements and predictions of the Epos , U r qmd and Fritiof models
