Neural networks art: solving problems with multiple solutions and new teaching algorithm
A new discrete neural networks adaptive resonance theory (ART), which allows solving problems with multiple solutions, is developed. New algorithms neural networks teaching ART to prevent degradation and reproduction classes at training noisy input data is developed. Proposed learning algorithms discrete ART networks, allowing obtaining different classification methods of input
Charge order in Fe2OBO3: An LSDA+U study
Charge ordering in the low-temperature monoclinic structure of iron oxoborate
(Fe2OBO3) is investigated using the local spin density approximation (LSDA)+U
method. While the difference between t_{2g} minority occupancies of Fe^{2+} and
Fe^{3+} cations is large and gives direct evidence for charge ordering, the
static "screening" is so effective that the total 3d charge separation is
rather small. The occupied Fe^{2+} and Fe^{3+} cations are ordered alternately
within the chain which is infinite along the a-direction. The charge order
obtained by LSDA+U is consistent with observed enlargement of the \beta angle.
An analysis of the exchange interaction parameters demonstrates the
predominance of the interribbon exchange interactions which determine the whole
L-type ferrimagnetic spin structure.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Limitations of the classical phase-locked loop analysis
Nonlinear analysis of the classical phase-locked loop (PLL) is a challenging
task. In classical engineering literature simplified mathematical models and
simulation are widely used for its study. In this work the limitations of
classical engineering phase-locked loop analysis are demonstrated, e.g., hidden
oscillations, which can not be found by simulation, are discussed. It is shown
that the use of simplified dynamical models and the application of simulation
may lead to wrong conclusions concerning the operability of PLL-based circuits
Chiral Skyrmionic matter in non-centrosymmetric magnets
Axisymmetric magnetic strings with a fixed sense of rotation and nanometer
sizes (chiral magnetic vortices or Skyrmions) have been predicted to exist in a
large group of non-centrosymmetric crystals more than two decades ago. Recently
these extraordinary magnetic states have been directly observed in thin layers
of cubic helimagnet (Fe,Co)Si. In this report we apply our earlier theoretical
findings to review main properties of chiral Skyrmions, to elucidate their
physical nature, and to analyse these recent experimental results on
magnetic-field-driven evolution of Skyrmions and helicoids in chiral
helimagnets.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, invited talk - JEMS-2010 ( 23-28 August, Krakow,

Degeneracies and fluctuations of N\'e\`el skyrmions in confined geometries
The recent discovery of tunable Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions in layered
magnetic materials with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy makes them promising
candidates for stabilization and manipulation of skyrmions at elevated
temperatures. In this article, we use Monte Carlo simulations to investigate
the robustness of skyrmions in these materials against thermal fluctuations and
finite-size effects. We find that in confined geometries and at finite
temperatures skyrmions are present in a large part of the phase diagram.
Moreover, we find that the confined geometry favors the skyrmion over the
spiral phase when compared to infinitely large systems. Upon tuning the
magnetic field through the skyrmion phase, the system undergoes a cascade of
transitions in the magnetic structure through states of different number of
skyrmions, elongated and half-skyrmions, and spiral states. We consider how
quantum and thermal fluctuations lift the degeneracies that occur at these
transitions, and find that states with more skyrmions are typically favored by
fluctuations over states with less skyrmions. Finally, we comment on electrical
detection of the various phases through the topological and anomalous Hall
effects.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
Hidden attractors in fundamental problems and engineering models
Recently a concept of self-excited and hidden attractors was suggested: an
attractor is called a self-excited attractor if its basin of attraction
overlaps with neighborhood of an equilibrium, otherwise it is called a hidden
attractor. For example, hidden attractors are attractors in systems with no
equilibria or with only one stable equilibrium (a special case of
multistability and coexistence of attractors). While coexisting self-excited
attractors can be found using the standard computational procedure, there is no
standard way of predicting the existence or coexistence of hidden attractors in
a system. In this plenary survey lecture the concept of self-excited and hidden
attractors is discussed, and various corresponding examples of self-excited and
hidden attractors are considered
Theory of differential inclusions and its application in mechanics
The following chapter deals with systems of differential equations with
discontinuous right-hand sides. The key question is how to define the solutions
of such systems. The most adequate approach is to treat discontinuous systems
as systems with multivalued right-hand sides (differential inclusions). In this
work three well-known definitions of solution of discontinuous system are
considered. We will demonstrate the difference between these definitions and
their application to different mechanical problems. Mathematical models of
drilling systems with discontinuous friction torque characteristics are
considered. Here, opposite to classical Coulomb symmetric friction law, the
friction torque characteristic is asymmetrical. Problem of sudden load change
is studied. Analytical methods of investigation of systems with such
asymmetrical friction based on the use of Lyapunov functions are demonstrated.
The Watt governor and Chua system are considered to show different aspects of
computer modeling of discontinuous systems
Angular distribution of muons produced by cosmic ray neutrinos in rock
Measurement of the upgoing muons flux, produced by cosmic ray neutrinos is aiming at: (1) search for neutrino oscillation; (2); search for extraterrestrial neutrinos from local sources; and (3); search for any hypothetical neutral penetrating radiation different from neutrinos. Experimental data of the Baksan underground telescope on intensity of upward muons for three years of living time, was analyzed having in mind mainly neutrino oscillation
The measurements of light high-energy ions in NINA-2 experiment
The flux of energetic light ions at low altitude is both an important input and output for self-consistent calculations of albedo particles resulting from the interaction of trapped and cosmic ray particles, with the upper atmosphere. In addition, data on the flux of light ions are needed to evaluate radiation damages on space-borne instruments and on space mission crews. In spite of that, sources of data on the flux of energetic ions at LEO are roughly limited to the AP-8 model, CREME/CREME96 codes and the SAMPEX, NOAA/TIROS satellites. The existing and operational European SAC-C/ICARE and PROBA-1/SREM instruments could also be potential sources for proton data at LEO. Although AP-8 and SAMPEX/PSB97 may be publicly accessed through the SPENVIS, they exhibit an order of magnitude difference in low altitude proton fluxes and they do not contain helium fluxes. Therefore, improved light ion radiation models are still needed.

In this paper we present a procedure to identify and measure the energy of ions that are not stopped in the NINA-2 instrument. Moreover, problems related to particles that cross the instrument in the opposite direction are addressed and shown to be a possible cause of particle misidentification. Measuring fluxes of low abundance elements like energetic helium ions requires a good characterisation of all possible sources of backgrounds in the detector. Hints to determine the several contributions to the background are presented herein and may be applied to extract an order of magnitude of energetic ions fluxes from existing data sets, while waiting for dedicated high performance instruments
