Evaluation of thermally stable phosphor screens for application in laser diode excited high brightness white light modules
A study on the preparation of thermally stable phosphor targets based on yttrium aluminum garnet doped with cerium (YAG:Ce) when excited by a high power laser diode is described. The luminous flux, chromaticity and radial spectral flux of the targets along with their thermal stability have been determined when exposed to laser powers of up to 5000 mW. This report presents successful high brightness light sources with adjustable emission properties achieved by utilizing thermally stable phosphor targets excited by high power laser diodes.Brunel University London, No. EP/K504208/

Seeking the Real Adam Smith and Milton Friedman
In this paper we will analyze the relationship between free market principles and ethics through an exploration of how too many business managers often approach the ideas of Adam Smith and Milton Friedman. In doing so, we aim to provide a thoughtful foundation for future discussions of how we ought to navigate this intersection. We briefly examine questions such as: What is the relationship between the “best” economy in terms of efficiency and the common good for society? Is pursuing one’s individual economic advantage the same as promoting the general interest? As we analyze and discuss these questions, specifically in the context of Smith and Friedman, we also make some alternative normative assertions, grounded in social welfare, about adopting a broader societal perspective for the purpose of business

Blurring the boundaries between synthesis and evaluation. A customized realist evaluative synthesis into adolescent risk behavior prevention
Realist methodologies have been increasingly advocated for the investigation of complex social issues. Public health programs, such as those designed to prevent adolescent risk behavior, are typically considered complex. In conducting a realist review of the empirical literature relating to such programs, we encountered several challenges, including (a) an overabundance of empirical evidence, (b) a problematic level of heterogeneity within and between methodological approaches, (c) discrepancies between theoretical underpinnings and program operationalization, (d) homogeneity of program outcomes, with very little variation in program effectiveness, and (d) a paucity of description relating to content and process. To overcome these challenges, we developed a customized approach to realist evidence synthesis, drawing on the VICTORE (Volition, Implementation, Contexts, Time, Outcomes, Rivalry, and Emergence) complexity checklist and incorporating stakeholder engagement as primary data to achieve greater depth of understanding relating to contextual and mechanistic factors, and the complex interactions between them. Here we discuss the benefits of this adapted methodology alongside an overview of the research through which the methodology was developed. A key finding from this research was that combining the complexity checklist with primary data from stakeholder engagement enabled us to systematically interrogate the data across data sources, uncovering and evidencing mechanisms which may otherwise have remained hidden, giving greater ontological depth to our research findings. This paper builds on key methodological developments in realist research, demonstrating how realist methodologies can be customized to overcome challenges in developing and refining program theory from the literature, and contributes to the broader literature of innovative approaches to realist research
On Semiclassical Limits of String States
We explore the relation between classical and quantum states in both open and
closed (super)strings discussing the relevance of coherent states as a
semiclassical approximation. For the closed string sector a gauge-fixing of the
residual world-sheet rigid translation symmetry of the light-cone gauge is
needed for the construction to be possible. The circular target-space loop

An ecological approach to problems of Dark Energy, Dark Matter, MOND and Neutrinos
Modern astronomical data on galaxy and cosmological scales have revealed
powerfully the existence of certain dark sectors of fundamental physics, i.e.,
existence of particles and fields outside the standard models and inaccessible
by current experiments. Various approaches are taken to modify/extend the
standard models. Generic theories introduce multiple de-coupled fields A, B, C,
each responsible for the effects of DM (cold supersymmetric particles), DE
(Dark Energy) effect, and MG (Modified Gravity) effect respectively. Some
theories use adopt vanilla combinations like AB, BC, or CA, and assume A, B, C
belong to decoupled sectors of physics. MOND-like MG and Cold DM are often
taken as opposite frameworks, e.g. in the debate around the Bullet Cluster.
Here we argue that these ad hoc divisions of sectors miss important clues from
the data. The data actually suggest that the physics of all dark sectors is
likely linked together by a self-interacting oscillating field, which governs a
chameleon-like dark fluid, appearing as DM, DE and MG in different settings. It
is timely to consider an interdisciplinary approach across all semantic
boundaries of dark sectors, treating the dark stress as one identity, hence
