Observation of polarization quantum noise of laser radiation in Rb vapor cell
We present experimental study of polarization quantum noise of laser
radiation passed through optically think vapor of Rb87. We observe a step-like
noise spectrum. We discuss various factor which may result in such noise
spectrum and prevent observation of squeezing of quantum fluctuations predicted

Enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity via multi-photon coherence
We propose a new method of resonant enhancement of optical Kerr nonlinearity
using multi-level atomic coherence. The enhancement is accompanied by
suppression of the other linear and nonlinear susceptibility terms of the
medium. We show that the effect results in a modification of the nonlinear
Faraday rotation of light propagating in an Rb87 vapor cell by changing the
ellipticity of the light.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures Submitted to Optics Letter
Radiation trapping in coherent media
We show that the effective decay rate of Zeeman coherence, generated in a
Rb87 vapor by linearly polarized laser light, increases significantly with the
atomic density. We explain this phenomenon as the result of radiation trapping.
Our study shows that radiation trapping must be taken into account to fully
understand many electromagnetically induced transparency experiments with
optically thick media
Large negative and positive delay of optical pulses in coherently prepared dense Rb vapor with buffer gas
We experimentally study the group time delay for a light pulse propagating
through hot Rb vapor in the presence of a strong coupling field in a
configuration. We demonstrate that the ultra-slow pulse propagation is
transformed into superluminal propagation as the one-photon detuning of the
light increases due to the change in the transmission resonance lineshape.
Negative group velocity as low as -c/10^6=-80 m/s is recorded. We also find
that the advance time in the regime of the superluminal propagation grows
linearly with increasing laser field power.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure

Abstract
The study, which was conducted at the clinical bases of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatric Gynecology of the Kharkov National Medical University for 2 years, included 98 adolescent girls with abnormal uterine bleeding during puberty (AUBDP) 11-18 years old.
A comprehensive clinical and laboratory examination included an analysis of complaints and the clinical course of the disease, a study of early history with an assessment of the infectious index, the course of pregnancy and labor in mothers, the degree of physical and sexual development, the characteristic of menstrual function, gynecological status, ovarian function. Also were studied urine and bacteriological seeding from the vagina, coagulogram, hormonal profile and ultrasound. The psychoemotional state of adolescents was studied using techniques adapted to their age.
When treating 30 adolescent girls with AUBDP (I group), we used conservative therapy. Hormonal treatment was carried out according to strict indications of 18 adolescent girls with AUBDP (group II), with the ineffectiveness of symptomatic therapy. 50 patients with AUBDP (group III) received therapy, including medicines that contains indole-3-carbinol tranexamic acid and received physiotherapy.
The established causes of bleeding, identified during the history taking, were stressful situations - 36.7%, increased physical and mental stress - 15.3%, acute and chronic respiratory and viral diseases - 12.2%.
Differential use of the developed complexes of adequate therapy, taking into account the level of anxiety of patients with AUBDP, according to the indications was effective in most patients. The inclusion of physiotherapeutic treatment in therapeutic regimens helped to reduce the medicine load on the developing organism of adolescent girls. In most patients, there was an improvement in the characteristics of psychoemotional status; positive dynamics of the progress of the puberty period, normalization of menstrual function were observed.
From this point of view, the active use of modern clinical diagnostic and new medical complexes using effective treatment schemes for correcting pathological conditions in adolescence is promising.

Dynamic optical bistability in resonantly enhanced Raman generation
We report observations of novel dynamic behavior in resonantly-enhanced
stimulated Raman scattering in Rb vapor. In particular, we demonstrate a
dynamic hysteresis of the Raman scattered optical field in response to changes
of the drive laser field intensity and/or frequency. This effect may be
described as a dynamic form of optical bistability resulting from the formation
and decay of atomic coherence. We have applied this phenomenon to the
realization of an all-optical switch.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
X-ray-absorption fine-structure study of ZnSexTe1âx alloys
X-ray-absorption fine-structure experiments at different temperatures in ZnSexTe1âx (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.55, 0.81, 0.93, 0.99, and 1.0) have been performed in order to obtain information about the structural relaxation and disorder effects occurring in the alloys. First and second neighbor distance distributions have been characterized at the Se and Zn K edges, using multiple-edge and multiple-scattering data analysis. The first neighbor distance distribution was found to be bimodal. The static disorder associated with the ZnâTe distance variance did not depend appreciably on composition. On the other hand, the static disorder associated with the ZnâSe distance increased as the Se content diminished. Using the bonding angle information provided by our experiments the point of view of the anion has been related to that of the cation. The resulting structural model indicates that Zn tetrahedra surrounding the anions remain essentially undistorted, but forced to tilt from their ideal zincblende orientation to accommodate the minority element. Salinization dynamics in irrigated soils of the Svetloyarsk irrigation system, Volgograd oblast
On the basis of soil surveys performed by the Volgograd hydrogeological reclamation expedition in 1998 and 2006, published data, and original materials obtained by the authors, the dynamics of soil salinization within the Svetloyarsk irrigation system in Volgograd oblast during the irrigation and post-irrigation periods have been traced. It is found that high irrigation rates under conditions of poor drainage and closed drainage basins upon both shallow (within the Caspian Lowland) and relatively deep (on the Ergeni Upland) occurrence of saline groundwater and the presence of natural salts in the soils and subsoils lead to the rise in the groundwater level above the critical level and the development of secondary salinization in the previously surfacesaline, deeply saline, and even nonsaline soils. During the post-irrigation period (15-18 years) under modern climatic conditions, the groundwater level has been descending to a depth of more than 3 m, and the degree of salinity in the upper meter of light chestnut and meadow-chestnut soils has decreased owing to the leaching of salts with atmospheric precipitation
