    Loop-induced photon spectral lines from neutralino annihilation in the NMSSM

    We have computed the loop-induced processes of neutralino annihilation into two photons and, for the first time, into a photon and a Z boson in the framework of the NMSSM. The photons produced from these radiative modes are monochromatic and possess a clear "smoking gun" experimental signature. This numerical analysis has been done with the help of the SloopS code, initially developed for automatic one-loop calculation in the MSSM. We have computed the rates for different benchmark points coming from SUGRA and GMSB soft SUSY breaking scenarios and compared them with the MSSM. We comment on how this signal can be enhanced, with respect to the MSSM, especially in the low mass region of the neutralino. We also discuss the possibility of this observable to constrain the NMSSM parameter space, taking into account the latest limits from the FERMI collaboration on these two modes.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures.     The evaluation of surface diffusion coefficients of gold and platinum atoms at electrochemical interfaces from combined STM-SEM imaging and electrochemical techniques

    A simple method is presented for measuring the surface diffusion coefficients of Au and Pt atoms at electrodispersed electrodes of the same metals in contact with 0.5M H2SO4. The technique is based upon the time dependence of the surface roughness factor of electrodispersed metal overlayers. The method requires a model for the surface roughness of the metal structure. The model is deduced from microscopic measurements by a STM integrated into a conventional SEM microscope. This allows the relationship between the roughness factor and the area of the surface structure to be obtained.     Surgical Treatment of Spinal Meningiomas in the Elderly (≥75 Years): Which Factors Affect the Neurological Outcome? An International Multicentric Study of 72 Cases

    (1) Background: With the increasing life expectancy in the Western world, an increasing number of old patients presents with spinal meningioma. Considering the benign nature of these tumors, the functional outcome remains of great importance, since more people reach old age in general conditions of well-being and satisfactory autonomy. (2) Methods: We conducted an international multicenter retrospective study to investigate demographic, clinical and radiological data in a population of elderly patients (≥75 years of age) undergoing surgery for SM from January 2000 to December 2020 in four European referral centers. The aim was to identify prognostic and predictive factors for a good postoperative functional outcome. (3) Results: 72 patients were included in the study. Complete tumor resection (Simpson I or II) was achieved in 67 (95.7%) cases. Intraoperative complications were reported in 7 (9.9%) patients while postoperative complications were found in 12 (16.7%). An excellent general postoperative status (McCormick I and II) was achieved in 65.3%. Overall, surgical resection had a good impact on patients’ functional outcome (86.1% either showing an improvement or maintaining a good preoperative status). Uni- and multivariate analyses found that both age and preoperative modified McCormick independently correlated with relative outcome (coeff = −0.058, p = 0.0251; coeff = 0.597, p < 0.0001) and with postoperative status (coeff = 0.058, p = 0.02507; coeff = 0.402, p = 0.00027), respectively. (4) Conclusions: Age and preoperative modified McCormick were found to be independent prognostic factors. Nevertheless, advanced age (≥75), per se, did not seem to contraindicate surgery, even in those with severe preoperative neurological deficits. The functional results sustain the need for surgical resection of SM in the elderly

    On the haplotype diversity along the genome in Spanish beef cattle populations

    This study analyzed the haplotype diversity along the genome of seven Spanish Beef Cattle populations within regions of 500 kb using the information provided by the BovineHD Beadchip. The results of the analysis pointed out a strong variability of the haplotype diversity across the genome, which is greatly conserved across populations. This strong concordance between populations suggests that the reasons behind it are intrinsic to the structure of the bovine genome and caused probably by the mutation or recombination rate. Nevertheless, some of the genomic regions with very large haplotype diversity are also due of genome assembly errors

    Linkage disequilibrium, persistence of phase, and effective population size in Spanish local beef cattle breeds assessed through a high-density single nucleotide polymorphism chip

    We have used the BovineHD Genotyping BeadChip to obtain high density genotypes (>700, 000 SNP after quality control) from 116 trios in five Spanish local beef cattle breeds. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) was meas- ured through the r2 statistic. Average r2 for adjacent markers in the five breeds were very close, around 0.52, and de- creased with increasing distance between markers, although in long distances some LD remained (0.07 and 0.05 for markers 200 kb and 1000 kb apart, respectively). At all distances the standard deviations were large and the shape of the distribution varied depending upon the marker dis- tance. Average r2 varied also between chromosomes. Pair- wise correlations between the r’s estimated in two breeds at short distances (5 kb) was in the rank of 0.6 – 0.7. Similarly to r2 estimates, this correlation decreased with increasing marker distance

    A novel oxidovanadium(V) compound with an isonicotinohydrazide ligand: A combined experimental and theoretical study and cytotoxity against K562 cells

    The interaction of oxidovanadium(V) with INHOVA (the condensation product of isoniazid and o-vanillin) lead to the formation of the ester-like complex [VO(INHOVA)EtO(OH2)]Cl·H2O (1). Crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction methods were obtained. The complex crystallizes as a dimer in the space group P21/c of the monoclinic system. A detailed analysis, including solid-state vibrational spectroscopy and electronic spectroscopy in DMSO solution, was performed for both INHOVA and complex (1). A complete theoretical study based on DFT was also carried out. The calculations were of valuable assistance in the spectra assignments and interpretation. The electrochemical characterization allows determining the redox behavior of INHOVA and complex (1). Cytotoxicity was assayed against the chronic myelogenous leukemia K562 cell line.
