PCA Tomography and its application to nearby galactic nuclei
With the development of modern technologies such as IFUs, it is possible to
obtain data cubes in which one produces images with spectral resolution. To
extract information from them can be quite complex, and hence the development
of new methods of data analysis is desirable. We briefly describe a method of
analysis of data cubes (data from single field observations, containing two
spatial and one spectral dimension) that uses Principal Component Analysis
(PCA) to express the data in the form of reduced dimensionality, facilitating
efficient information extraction from very large data sets. We applied the
method, for illustration purpose, to the central region of the low ionization
nuclear emission region (LINER) galaxy NGC 4736, and demonstrate that it has a
type 1 active nucleus, not known before. Furthermore, we show that it is
displaced from the centre of its stellar bulge.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, to be published in the Proceedings of the

Diffusion Enhancement in Core-softened fluid confined in nanotubes
We study the effect of confinement in the dynamical behavior of a
core-softened fluid. The fluid is modeled as a two length scales potential.
This potential in the bulk reproduces the anomalous behavior observed in the
density and in the diffusion of liquid water. A series of Molecular
Dynamics simulations for this two length scales fluid confined in a nanotube
were performed. We obtain that the diffusion coefficient increases with the
increase of the nanotube radius for wide channels as expected for normal
fluids. However, for narrow channels, the confinement shows an enhancement in
the diffusion coefficient when the nanotube radius decreases. This behavior,
observed for water, is explained in the framework of the two length scales
potential.Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures, accept for publication at J. Chem. Phy

Strong disorder renormalization group study of aperiodic quantum Ising chains
We employ an adaptation of a strong-disorder renormalization-group technique
in order to analyze the ferro-paramagnetic quantum phase transition of Ising
chains with aperiodic but deterministic couplings under the action of a
transverse field. In the presence of marginal or relevant geometric
fluctuations induced by aperiodicity, for which the critical behavior is
expected to depart from the Onsager universality class, we derive analytical
and asymptotically exact expressions for various critical exponents (including
the correlation-length and the magnetization exponents, which are not easily
obtainable by other methods), and shed light onto the nature of the ground
state structures in the neighborhood of the critical point. The main results
obtained by this approach are confirmed by finite-size scaling analyses of
numerical calculations based on the free-fermion method
