    wGrapeUNIPD-DL: An open dataset for white grape bunch detection

    National and international Vitis variety catalogues can be used as image datasets for computer vision in viticulture. These databases archive ampelographic features and phenology of several grape varieties and plant structures images (e.g. leaf, bunch, shoots). Although these archives represent a potential database for computer vision in viticulture, plant structure images are acquired singularly and mostly not directly in the vineyard. Localization computer vision models would take advantage of multiple objects in the same image, allowing more efficient training. The present images and labels dataset was designed to overcome such limitations and provide suitable images for multiple cluster identification in white grape varieties. A group of 373 images were acquired from later view in vertical shoot position vineyards in six different Italian locations at different phenological stages. Images were then labelled in YOLO labelling format. The dataset was made available both in terms of images and labels. The real number of bunches counted in the field, and the number of bunches visible in the image (not covered by other vine structures) was recorded for a group of images in this dataset

    Dopaminergic system modulation, behavioral changes, and oxidative stress after neonatal administration of pyrethroids

    Pyrethroids are a class of insecticides involved in different neurological disorders. They cross the blood–brain barrier and exert their effect on dopaminergic system, contributing to the burden of oxidative stress in Parkinson’s disease through several pathways. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of neonatal exposition to permethrin and cypermethrin (1/10 of DL50) in rats from the eighth to the fifteenth day of life. Open-field studies showed increased spontaneous locomotor activity in the groups treated with permethrin and the one treated with cypermethrin, while a higher number of center entries and time spent in the center was observed for the cypermethrin-treated group. Lower dopamine and higher homovanillic acid levels were measured in the striatum from both treated groups. A reduction of blood glutathione peroxidase content was measured, while no change in blood superoxide dismutase was observed. Carbonyl group formation increased in striatum, but not in erythrocytes. Lipid peroxidation occurred in erythrocytes, but not in striatum. No changes in fluidity at different depths of plasma membrane were measured in striatum or erythrocytes. The activation of monocyte NADPH oxidase by phorbol esters (PMA) shows that superoxide anion production was reduced in the pyrethroid-treated groups compared to the control group. Our studies suggest that neonatal exposition to permethrin or cypermethrin induces long-lasting effects after developmental exposure giving changes in open-field behaviors, striatal monoamine level, and increased oxidative stress. Although the action of pyrethroids on various target cells is different, a preferential interaction with the extracellular side of plasma membrane proteins can be observed

    L-dopa and dopamine-(R)-alpha-lipoic acid conjugates as multifunctional codrugs with antioxidant properties

    A series of multifunctional codrugs (1-4), obtained by joining L-Dopa (LD) and dopamine (DA) with (R)-R-lipoic acid (LA), was synthesized and evaluated as potential codrugs with antioxidant and iron-chelating properties. These multifunctional molecules were synthesized to overcome the pro-oxidant effect associated with LD therapy. The physicochemical properties, together with the chemical and enzymatic stabilities of synthesized compounds, were evaluated in order to determine both their stability in aqueous medium and their sensitivity in undergoing enzymatic cleavage by rat and human plasma to regenerate the original drugs. The new compounds were tested for their radical scavenging activities, using a test involving the Fe (II)- H2O2-induced degradation of deoxyribose, and to evaluate peripheral markers of oxidative stress such as plasmatic activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in the plasma. Furthermore, we showed the central effects of compounds 1 and 2 on spontaneous locomotor activity of rats in comparison with LD-treated animals. From the results obtained, compounds 1-4 appeared stable at a pH of 1.3 and in 7.4 buffered solution; in 80% human plasma they were turned into DA and LD. Codrugs 1-4 possess good lipophilicity (log P > 2 for all tested compounds). Compounds 1 and 2 seem to protect partially against the oxidative stress deriving from auto-oxidation and MAO-mediated metabolism of DA. This evidence, together with the “in vivo” dopaminergic activity and a sustained release of the parent drug in human plasma, allowed us to point out the potential advantages of using 1 and 2 rather than LD in treating pathologies such as Parkinson’s disease, characterized by an evident decrease of DA concentration in the brain

    Stratigraphic framework of the late Miocene Pisco Formation at Cerro Los Quesos (Ica Desert, Peru)

    The enormous concentration of marine vertebrates documented within the Pisco Formation is unique for Peru and South America and places this unit among the prime fossil Lagerstätten for Miocene to Pliocene marine mammals worldwide. In order to provide a robust stratigraphic framework for the fossil-bearing locality of Cerro Los Quesos, this study presents a 1:10,000 scale geological map covering an area of about 21 km2, a detailed measured section spanning 290 m of strata, and a refined chronostratigraphy for the studied succession well constrained by diatom biostratigraphy and high-resolution 40Ar/39Ar isotopic dating of three interbedded ash layers. Within the apparently monotonous, diatomite-dominated sedimentary section, the Pisco Formation has been subdivided into six local members, with stratigraphic control over the different outcrops facilitated by the establishment of a detailed marker bed stratigraphy based on fifteen readily distinguishable sediment layers of different nature

    Platelet-rich plasma to treat experimentally-induced skin wounds in animals : a systematic review and meta-analysis

    The objective of the study was to review current literature to determine whether the topical application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) promotes healing in experimentally-induced full-thickness skin wounds in animals. The hypothesis was that the adjunct of PRP has a positive effect on wound healing. An electronic search was carried out on the following databases: Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Research Gate, Cochrane Wounds Group, Veterinary Information Network. No publication date nor language restrictions were applied. Randomised and not randomised controlled clinical trials comparing PRP with placebo or with other treatments were included. The reduction of open wound area in PRP-treated (test) wounds compared to control wounds was the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes were healing time and number of healed cases in test group compared to control. The following effect sizes were calculated: the Hedges\u2019 g for continuous variables; the odds ratio for binary data. Eighteen controlled clinical trials were included in the qualitative and quantitative synthesis, with a total of 661 wounds. All studies were published in the period 2007\u20132016. Eight studies were carried out on rodent/lagomorph mammals and 10 on non-rodent/lagomorph mammals. In all included studies, control wounds underwent placebo or were left untreated. The PRP group showed a better healing performance than the control group in each outcome. The effect size was statistically significant considering the primary outcome and the overall aggregation of the three outcomes. The effect size, although in favour of the treatment with PRP, was not significant considering the healing time and the number of healings. The overall heterogeneity was mild or moderate. Five studies reported a high risk of selection bias. The publication bias was always mild or absent. The results support the hypothesis of the positive effects of the PRP when compared to control groups in the treatment of experimentally-induced full-thickness skin wounds in animals. PRP can therefore be considered an effective adjunctive therapy in stimulating second intention healing of acute wounds in healthy animals
