    The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of BI rate, SBI interest rate, inflation and the exchange rateto value of government bonds in Indonesia Stock Exchange. Data used in this study were secondary data in BIrate, SBI interest rates, inflation and the exchange rate period January 2007 to October 2012. The methods of dataanalysis were multiple regression models and they were analyzed using IBM SPSS software version 20. Theresults showed that partially only the exchange rate that did not significantly influence the value of governmentbonds. This finding could be explained that the exchange rate had no effect related to central bank intervention(Bank Indonesia) to move the exchange rate at the time of depreciation or appreciation

    The q-harmonic oscillator and an analog of the Charlier polynomials

    A model of a q-harmonic oscillator based on q-Charlier polynomials of Al-Salam and Carlitz is discussed. Simple explicit realization of q-creation and q-annihilation operators, q-coherent states and an analog of the Fourier transformation are found. A connection of the kernel of this transform with biorthogonal rational functions is observed

    Structural coloration of chitosan-cationized cotton fabric using photonic crystals

    Conventional textile coloration is a wet process involving high levels of water and chemicals consumption and wastewater generation. However, colour in textiles can also be generated by other mechanisms such as: absorption, emission, diffraction, interference and photochromism.[1] Chromotropic effect refers to reversible colour transformation due to external chemical or physical influence.[2] Photonic crystals are an important class of chromotropic materials. Colloidal crystals with a periodicity on the scale of half the wavelength of visible light exhibit structural colours similar to natural opals due to a diffraction effects that result in the appearance of a photonic band gap that forbids propagation of certain wavelengths.[3] Structural colouration is emerging as an innovative technology to produce colourful textiles materials.[4] Various colours impossible to reproduce by chemical coloration can be created by modifying the periodicity of the nanostructures or the environmental conditions using a single material.[5, 6] Photonic crystals can be applied on textile fabrics by colloid self-assembly and the structural colours can be controlled by adjusting the microspheres size and the viewing angles.[7] However, their application for textile structural coloration has been barely reported.[8] In this work, P(St-MMA-AA) composite nanospheres were deposited onto chitosan-cationized woven cotton fabrics.     The cursed duet today: Tuberculosis and HIV-coinfection

    The tuberculosis (TB) and HIV syndemic continues to rage and are a major public health concern worldwide. This deadly association raises complexity and represent a significant barrier towards TB elimination. TB continues to be the leading cause of death amongst HIV-infected people. This paper reports the challenges that lay ahead and outlines some of the current and future strategies that may be able to address this co-epidemic efficiently. Improved diagnostics, cheaper and more effective drugs, shorter treatment regimens for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB are discussed. Also, special topics on drug interactions, TB-IRIS and TB relapse are also described. Notwithstanding the defeats and meagre investments, diagnosis and management of the two diseases have seen significant and unexpected improvements of late. On the HIV side, expansion of ART coverage, development of new updated guidelines aimed at the universal treatment of those infected, and the increasing availability of newer, more efficacious and less toxic drugs are an essential element to controlling the two epidemics. On the TB side, diagnosis of MDR-TB is becoming easier and faster thanks to the new PCR-based technologies, new anti-TB drugs active against both sensitive and resistant strains (i.e. bedaquiline and delamanid) have been developed and a few more are in the pipeline, new regimens (cheaper, shorter and/or more effective) have been introduced (such as the “Bangladesh regimen”) or are being tested for MDR-TB and drug-sensitive-TB. However, still more resources will be required to implement an integrated approach, install new diagnostic tests, and develop simpler and shorter treatment regimens

    In vitro assessment of anti-proliferative effect induced by α-mangostin from Cratoxylum arborescens on HeLa cells

    Natural medicinal products possess diverse chemical structures and have been an essential source for drug discovery. Therefore, in this study, α-mangostin (AM) is a plant-derived compound was investigated for the apoptotic effect on human cervical cancer cells (HeLa). The cytotoxic effects of AM on the viability of HeLa and human normal ovarian cell line (SV40) were evaluated by using MTT assay. Results showed that AM inhibited HeLa cells viability at concentration- and time-dependent manner with IC50 value of 24.53 ± 1.48 µM at 24 h. The apoptogenic effects of AM on HeLa were assessed using fluorescence microscopy analysis. The effect of AM on cell proliferation was also studied through clonogenic assay. ROS production evaluation, flow cytometry (cell cycle) analysis, caspases 3/7, 8, and 9 assessment and multiple cytotoxicity assays were conducted to determine the mechanism of cell apoptosis. This was associated with G2/M phase cell cycle arrest and elevation in ROS production. AM induced mitochondrial apoptosis which was confirmed based on the significant increase in the levels of caspases 3/7 and 9 in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the MMP disruption and increased cell permeability, concurrent with cytochrome c release from the mitochondria to the cytosol provided evidence that AM can induce apoptosis via mitochondrial-dependent pathway. AM exerted a remarkable antitumor effect and induced characteristic apoptogenic morphological changes on HeLa cells, which indicates the occurrence of cell death. This study reveals that AM could be a potential antitumor compound on cervical cancer in vitro and can be considered for further cervical cancer preclinical and in vivo testing

    Ghosts in the self-accelerating universe

    The self-accelerating universe realizes the accelerated expansion of the universe at late times by large-distance modification of general relativity without a cosmological constant. The Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model provides an explicit example of the self-accelerating universe. Recently, the DGP model becomes very popular to study the observational consequences of the modified gravity models as an alternative to dark energy models in GR. However, it has been shown that the self-accelerating universe in the DGP model contains a ghost at the linearized level. The ghost carries negative energy densities and it leads to the instability of the spacetime.     The association between IgG and IgM antibodies against cardiolipin, β2-glycoprotein I and Domain I of β2-glycoprotein I with disease profile in patients with multiple sclerosis

    Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) occur in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) with a number of studies reporting elevated levels; their exact prevalence and pathogenic role remain unclear. Epidemiological studies associate MS with an increased risk of deep venous thromboembolism and stroke; overlapping clinical features with APS. Antibodies against the first domain – Domain I (DI) – of β2glycoprotein I (β2GPI), show the most clinical significance and evidence for pathogenicity in the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), but have not yet been investigated in MS. Serum from a well-defined cohort of 127 MS patients and 92 healthy controls were tested for IgM and IgG antibodies against cardiolipin (CL), β2GPI and DI. Higher frequency of IgM and IgG anti-CL were found in MS patients (18.1% and 21.3%), compared to controls (1.1% in both cases, p < 0.0001). We report that anti-DI antibodies were associated with MS patients, with 6.3% and 7.1% positive for IgM and IgG, respectively, compared to controls, 1.1% (p < 0.05). IgM anti-CL antibodies were elevated in secondary progressive MS and primary progressive MS compared to relapse-remitting MS, (p < 0.005). This study enrolled the largest number of patients with definite MS for studying the association with aPL. Although we confirmed IgM and IgG anti-CL antibodies occur in patients with MS, this is the first study that identified anti-DI antibodies in MS patients. This new finding may prove valuable and future studies are required to evaluate its role as a potential risk factor of thromboembolic phenomena in MS
