    Background: Kshara is an important dosage form mentioned in Ayurveda which is derived from plant ash. The Kshara have some similar properties like alkaline nature, water solubility, whitish color etc. Kshara are given advantage over all surgical and parasurgical measures as it can be used in thin, weak and patients who fears for surgery. Different herbs like Apamarga, Snuhi, Kadalipalasha are used to prepare Kshara either single or collectively in classical texts. Therapeutic use of Kshara of different herbs differs from each other hence analytical study of each Kshara is necessary. Aims & Objectives: In the present study preparation of Palash (Butea monosperma) kshara and analytical study is done to understand the characteristics of Palashkshara. Material & methods: The preparation of Kshara is a multistep procedure. In the present study preparation of Palasha Kshara is done according general method of preparation of Kshara mentioned in Sharangadhara Sanhita. Prepared Kshara is subjected to various Physico chemical analyses and results are concluded. Results: The Palash Kshara shows physical properties like whitish in color, pungent odor and soft in touch. Chemically it shows combination of Potassium, Phosphate and Sulphate along with other elements in traces.     Secondary electron yield of emissive materials for large-area micro-channel plate detectors: surface composition and film thickness dependencies

    The ongoing development of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) enables the use of relatively inexpensive and robust borosilicate micro-channel substrates for use as Micro-Channel Plates (MCPs). The surfaces of the channels in these glass plates are functionalized to control the conductivity as well as the Secondary Electron Yield (SEY). The extensive SEY data found in literature show significant variation for a given material depending on the apparatus, the measurement procedure, and the sample preparation and handling. We present systematic studies on the effects of film thickness and surface chemical composition on SEY. We have modified an existing ultra-high vacuum apparatus containing X-ray and Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectrometers (XPS and UPS, respectively) by adding a modified Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) module for SEY measurements. With these tools, we have characterized the secondary electron emissive properties for MgO, Al2O3, and multilayered MgO/TiO2 structures to serve as electron emissive layers in the channels of the MCPs

    A tracking algorithm for the stable spin polarization field in storage rings using stroboscopic averaging

    Polarized protons have never been accelerated to more than about 2525GeV. To achieve polarized proton beams in RHIC (250GeV), HERA (820GeV), and the TEVATRON (900GeV), ideas and techniques new to accelerator physics are needed. In this publication we will stress an important aspect of very high energy polarized proton beams, namely the fact that the equilibrium polarization direction can vary substantially across the beam in the interaction region of a high energy experiment when no countermeasure is taken. Such a divergence of the polarization direction would not only diminish the average polarization available to the particle physics experiment, but it would also make the polarization involved in each collision analyzed in a detector strongly dependent on the phase space position of the interacting particle. In order to analyze and compensate this effect, methods for computing the equilibrium polarization direction are needed. In this paper we introduce the method of stroboscopic averaging, which computes this direction in a very efficient way. Since only tracking data is needed, our method can be implemented easily in existing spin tracking programs. Several examples demonstrate the importance of the spin divergence and the applicability of stroboscopic averaging.Comment: 39 page

    Effect of varying concentrations of salinity on some biochemical parameters involved in nitrogen metabolism of four grass species

    ABSTRACT: Salinity adversely affects crop productivity and the quality of yield. The present work was carried out to estimate the changes in nitrogen metabolism under the influence of NaCl salinity in four selected grasses. All the species recorded a decrease in nitrate nitrogen content at the highest concentration of salinity stress (300 mM). Its maximum increase was 14 and 19% (100 mM) for Cymbopogon nardus and Cynodon dactylon, respectively. The maximum increase in nitrite nitrogen found was 11% (200 mM) in Cymbopogon nardus, 12% (100 mM) in Cynodon dactylon. The concentration of proline and amides in the leaves of all the experimental grasses showed a positive correlation with increasing concentrations of salinity. The maximum increase in proline content was 81, 88, 126, and 68% in Cymbopogon nardus, Cynodon dactylon, Pennisetum alopecuroides, and Vetiveria zizanioides, respectively, at 300 mM NaCl salinity. The concentration of free amino acids in the leaves of all the experimental grasses was considerably increased under saline condition and showed a positive correlation with increasing concentrations of salinity. Similar results were obtained in the case of amides. The concentration of nitrate reductase enzyme was elevated in Cymbopogon nardus and Pennisetum alopecuroides at lower salinity regime

    Enhancing the ultrafast third order nonlinear optical response by charge transfer in VSe2-reduced graphene oxide hybrid

    Nonlinear optical phenomena play a critical role in understanding microscopic light-matter interactions and have far-reaching applications across various fields, such as biosensing, quantum information, optical switching, and all-optical data processing. Most of these applications require materials with high third-order absorptive and refractive optical nonlinearities. However, most materials show weak nonlinear optical responses due to their perturbative nature and often need to be improved for practical applications. Here, we demonstrate that the charge donor-acceptor hybrid of VSe2-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid exhibits enhanced ultrafast third-order absorptive and refractive nonlinearities compared to the pristine systems, at least by one order of magnitude. Through density functional theory and Bader charge analysis, we elucidate the strong electronic coupling in the VSe2-rGO hybrid, involving the transfer of electrons from VSe2 to rGO. Steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) measurements confirm the electronic coupling and charge transfer. Furthermore, we fabricate an ultrafast optical limiter device with better performance parameters, such as an onset threshold of 2.5 mJ cm-2 and differential transmittance of 0.42

    Diabetic nephropathy is global problem with several drugs into trial without much success the current article highlights the role of thiazolidinedione’s in diabetic nephropathy by scrutinizing and reconnoitring the cellular and intracellular mechanism and shielding action and the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated gamma receptors (PPARγ) receptors. Not only anti-diabetic action but renal protective effect with evidence based study has been highlighted. PPAR γ-is versatile target having numerous benefits and mainly preventing fibrosis in diabetic experimental model and some clinical case report yet, the benefits are not up to mark, since renal failure itself causes volume expansion and the thiazolidinedione’s (TZDs) also preserve salt and water and lead to congestive heart failure which constraints its clinical application. Dual activators and balaglitazone selective PPAR modulator are having upcoming potential for treatment of diabetic nephropathy. Further detail investigation on such drug is needed to explore. However adverse effect like heart failure, osteoporosis and volume expansion effect over-rides the beneficial effect thus limiting its clinical use of currently available TZDs

    Fishery and biology of Penaeid prawns at Harnaii, Maharashtra

    Penaeid prawn fishery at Harnaii in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra was investigated during fishing seasons of 2002-03 and 2003-04 from mechanized (MLD) and hand operated trawlers (HT). During the two years, MLD contributed 86% and HT 14% to the average annual penaeid prawn catch of 2,242 t. The catch showed two peaks, a major during October-December and a minor during April-May in both the gears but abundance of the individual species differed. P. stylifera, Metapenaeopsis affinis, Solenocera crassicornis, Metapenaeopsis brevicornis, P. merguiensis and Metapenaeopsis dobsoni mainly constituted the fishery and their species composition, seasonal abundance, annual size distribution and monthly mean size were investigated. Biological studies on food, size at maturity, spawning period, sex-ratio and juvenile abundance were carried out to explain temporal abundance of the species in the fishery. Among the species P. stylifera, M. affinis and S. crassicornis exhibited distinct seasonality with two spawning peaks, one in pre-monsoon and the other in post monsoon period to produce two discrete broods while P. merguiensis despite two spawning peaks exhibited a single dominant brood. M. brevicornis showed monsoon and post-monsoon spawning while M. dobsoni showed only post-monsoon spawning. Migrations between nearshore and offshore waters resulted in mixing of the broods and they remained inseparable in the catch

    Compare Outcomes Of Single Stage Vs Two Stage Urethroplasty For Panurethral Strictures Including Pre-Operative And Post-Operative Course

    Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare outcomes of single stage vs two stage urethroplasty for panurethral strictures including pre-operative and post-operative course. Methods: The Observational study was conducted at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College and Research Centre, Pimpri for the period of 2 years. The study was conducted in 40 patients randomly dividing into two groups, 20 patients underwent single stage urethroplasty and 20 underwent two staged urethroplasty with or without buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty based on size of urethral plate. Results: In the present study, majority of the patients belonged to 41-50 years age group followed by 31-40 years age group and it was found that age groups were not statistically significant. Majority of the patients had Balanitis xerotica obliterans (LS) etiology followed by Post instrumentation/catheter and the results were not statistically significant. Majority of the patients had 13-15 cms length of stricture. In the present study, 12 and 16 were narrow external uretheral meatus in single and two stage respectively. In the two stage, Johanson’s urethroplasty procedure was done and in single stage, Kulkarni’s full length dorsal onlay BMG urethroplasty procedure was done. In single and two stage, Urethrocutaneous Fistula and Epididymo-orchitis complications were noted. In single stage, success was noted in 16 patients and in two stage, success was noted in 17 patients. Conclusion: The single stage repair in patients with LS had good results with less re-stricture rates. The use of BMG as a substitution in single stage repair had re-stricture rates compared to flaps substitution. The two-stage repair should be limited to complex urethral strictures, failed urethroplasty and obliterated urethral stricture urethral caliber is less than 6F
