University Admissions Leaders Rethink Recruitment Strategies in the Wake of COVID-19
In the wake of COVID-19, university admissions leaders were challenged to rethink recruitment strategies and practices. This qualitative research inquiry explored how admissions leaders changed student recruitment strategies in response to the inability to connect with prospective students in-person. The study collected data from six university admissions leaders in the Midwest region of the United States. Systems theory and the concept of organizational adaptation supported this investigation. Findings of the study reveal challenges admissions offices faced in response to the pandemic, identify new recruitment strategies developed by admissions leaders, and information what strategies may comprise the future of recruitment. Three themes emerged from the study: (1) enhancement of web presence, (2) expansion of virtual experiences, and (3) continuation of online and in-person recruitment strategies as the new standard
The H.E.S.S. central data acquisition system
The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) is a system of Imaging
Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) located in the Khomas Highland in
Namibia. It measures cosmic gamma rays of very high energies (VHE; >100 GeV)
using the Earth's atmosphere as a calorimeter. The H.E.S.S. Array entered Phase
II in September 2012 with the inauguration of a fifth telescope that is larger
and more complex than the other four. This paper will give an overview of the
current H.E.S.S. central data acquisition (DAQ) system with particular emphasis
on the upgrades made to integrate the fifth telescope into the array. At first,
the various requirements for the central DAQ are discussed then the general
design principles employed to fulfil these requirements are described. Finally,
the performance, stability and reliability of the H.E.S.S. central DAQ are
presented. One of the major accomplishments is that less than 0.8% of

HERA-B Framework for Online Calibration and Alignment
This paper describes the architecture and implementation of the HERA-B
framework for online calibration and alignment. At HERA-B the performance of
all trigger levels, including the online reconstruction, strongly depends on
using the appropriate calibration and alignment constants, which might change
during data taking. A system to monitor, recompute and distribute those
constants to online processes has been integrated in the data acquisition and

No effect of pre race supplementation with vitamins and minerals on performance in an ultra-endurance race
Intake of supplements such as vitamins and minerals is widespread in athletes. The aim of the study was the investigation of the influence of intake of vitamins and minerals before an ultra-endurance triathlon and its effect on race performance in a descriptive field study. Participants of the “Triple Iron Triathlon Germany 2006“ in Lensahn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, were contacted by a newsletter six weeks before the race by the organizer and received a questionnaire to fill in their intake of vitamins and minerals. Questionnaires were self-administered and not administered by trained personnel. During this race the athletes had to cover 11.4 km swimming, 540 km cycling and 126.6 km running within 58 hours. The athletes were divided into two categories: successful finishers with intake of vitamins and minerals and successful finishers without intake prior to the race. Race performance (total running time in h) of athletes with intake and athletes without intake of these substances was compared. In the four-week period prior to the race,
nine athletes (53 %) ingested vitamins and eight athletes (47 %) minerals. Athletes with intake of vitamins
(44.7 ± 7.0 h versus 50.4 ± 4.4h; p>0.05) and minerals (45.3 ± 7.2 versus 49.3 ± 5.4 h, p>0.05) finished the
race not faster than athletes without intake of vitamins and minerals. In the “Triple Iron Triathlon Germany 2006“ in Lensahn, Germany, no influence on race performance was observed concerning the regular intake of vitamins and minerals in the last four weeks before the race
Discovery of the VHE gamma-ray source HESS J1641-463
A new TeV source, HESS J1641-463, has been serendipitously discovered in the
Galactic plane by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) at a
significance level of 8.6 standard deviations. The observations of HESS
J1641-463 were performed between 2004 and 2011 and the source has a moderate
flux level of 1.7% of the Crab Nebula flux at E > 1 TeV. HESS J1641-463 has a
rather hard photon index of 1.99 +- 0.13_stat +- 0.20_sys. HESS J1641-463 is
positionally coincident with the radio supernova remnant SNR G338.5+0.1, but no
clear X-ray counterpart has been found in archival Chandra observations of the
region. Different possible VHE production scenarios will be discussed in this

Multi-wavelength observations of the binary system PSR B1259-63/LS 2883 around the 2010-2011 periastron passage
We report on broad multi-wavelength observations of the 2010-2011 periastron
passage of the gamma-ray loud binary system PSR B1259-63. High resolution
interferometric radio observations establish extended radio emission trailing
the position of the pulsar. Observations with the Fermi Gamma-ray Space
Telescope reveal GeV gamma-ray flaring activity of the system, reaching the
spin-down luminosity of the pulsar, around 30 days after periastron. There are
no clear signatures of variability at radio, X-ray and TeV energies at the time
of the GeV flare. Variability around periastron in the H emission line,
can be interpreted as the gravitational interaction between the pulsar and the
circumstellar disk. The equivalent width of the H grows from a few days
before periastron until a few days later, and decreases again between 18 and 46
days after periastron. In near infrared we observe the similar decrease of the
equivalent width of Br line between the 40th and 117th day after the
periastron. For the idealized disk, the variability of the H line
represents the variability of the mass and size of the disk. We discuss
possible physical relations between the state of the disk and GeV emission
under assumption that GeV flare is directly related to the decrease of the disk

A model for inter-module analysis and optimizing compilation
Recent research into the implementation of logic programming
languages has demonstrated that global program analysis can be used to speed up execution by an order of magnitude. However, currently such global program analysis requires the program to be analysed as a whole: sepárate compilation of modules is not supported. We describe and empirically evalúate a simple model for extending global program
analysis to support sepárate compilation of modules. Importantly, our model supports context-sensitive program analysis and multi-variant specialization of procedures in the modules
Applicability of the cobb angle measurement in idiopathic scoliosis using scanned imaging
OBJECTIVES: To compare the measurement of the Cobb angle on printed radiographs and on scanned radiographs viewed through the software "PixViewer".
METHODS: Preoperative radiographs of 23 patients were evaluated on printed films and through the software "PixViewer". The same evaluator, a spine surgeon, chose the proximal and distal limiting vertebrae of the main curve on printed radiographs, without identification of patients, and measured the Cobb angle based on these parameters. The same parameters and measurements were applied to scanned radiographs. The measurements were compared, as well as the choice of limiting vertebrae.
RESULTS: The average variation of the Cobb angle between methods was 1.48 ± 1.73°. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.99, demonstrating excellent reproducibility.
CONCLUSION: The Cobb method can be used to evaluate scoliosis through the "PixViewer" tool with the same reliability as the classic method on printed radiographs
Status and Plans for the Array Control and Data Acquisition System of the Cherenkov Telescope Array
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the next-generation atmospheric
Cherenkov gamma-ray observatory. CTA will consist of two installations, one in
the northern, and the other in the southern hemisphere, containing tens of
telescopes of different sizes. The CTA performance requirements and the
inherent complexity associated with the operation, control and monitoring of
such a large distributed multi-telescope array leads to new challenges in the
field of the gamma-ray astronomy. The ACTL (array control and data acquisition)
system will consist of the hardware and software that is necessary to control
and monitor the CTA arrays, as well as to time-stamp, read-out, filter and
store -at aggregated rates of few GB/s- the scientific data. The ACTL system
must be flexible enough to permit the simultaneous automatic operation of
multiple sub-arrays of telescopes with a minimum personnel effort on site. One
of the challenges of the system is to provide a reliable integration of the
control of a large and heterogeneous set of devices. Moreover, the system is
required to be ready to adapt the observation schedule, on timescales of a few
tens of seconds, to account for changing environmental conditions or to
prioritize incoming scientific alerts from time-critical transient phenomena
such as gamma ray bursts. This contribution provides a summary of the main
