Background Motor impairments are one of the difficulties present in people prenatally exposed to alcohol, and are included in the diagnostic criteria for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Objectives The aim of this review was to examine the extent and common types of motor impairment present in persons aged over 12 years prenatally exposed to alcohol as evidence for determining the skills that should be assessed and addressed in intervention. Methods A systematic review of curren t evidence using various electronic databases was conducted. Studies were appraised using a recognized clinical appraisal tool. Results Seven studies published between 1998 and 2014 met the inclusion criteria. There is some evidence that difficulties with fine motor skills, visual motor integration, and balance skills persist in people who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol. Most studies did not focus on adolescent or adult participants in isolation, making it difficult to generalize results. Varied methodological designs made it difficult to compare studies as few used common standardized assessments. Conclusion A review of functional difficulties in each individual would be required to determine if a motor assessment is warranted. Further research is required using assessments recommended in diagnostic guidelines to determine the common motor difficulties seen in adolescents and adults

A number of highly purified polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) isomers and congeners were synthesized and administered to male Wistar rats at dosage levels of 30 and 150 [mu]mol [middle dot] kg-1. The effects of this in vivo treatment on the drug-metabolizing enzymes were determined by measuring the microsomal benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) hydroxylase, dimethylaminoantipyrine (DMAP) N-demethylase and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase enzyme activities, the cytochrome b5 content and the relative peak intensities and spectral shifts of the reduced microsomal cytochrome P-450: CO and ethylisocyanide (EIC) binding difference spectra. The results were compared to the effects of administering phenobarbitone (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (MC) and PB plus MC (coadministered) to the test animals. The synthetic PCB congeners used in this study included 3,4,4',5-tetrachlorobiphenyl (TCBP-1), 2,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (TCBP-2), 2,3',4,4',5'-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCBP-1), 2,3,4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCBP-2), 2,3,3',4,4',5-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-1), 2,3,3',4',5,6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-2), 2,3,3',5,5',6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-3), 2,2',3,5,5',6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-4) and 2,3,3',4,5,5'-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-5) and were used to reappraise the structure-activity rules for PCBs as hepatic microsomal enzyme inducers. The results suggested that (a) PCBs which induce MC or mixed-type activity must be substituted at both para positions, at least two meta positions but not necessarily on the same phenyl ring and can also contain one ortho chloro substituent; (b) due to the considerable structural diversity of the PB-type inducers the rules for induction of this activity by PCB congeners are not readily defined.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/23229/1/0000162.pd

Forbidden induced subgraph characterization of circle graphs within split graphs

A graph is circle if its vertices are in correspondence with a family of chords in a circle in such a way that every two distinct vertices are adjacent if and only if the corresponding chords have nonempty intersection. Even though there are diverse characterizations of circle graphs, a structural characterization by minimal forbidden induced subgraphs for the entire class of circle graphs is not known, not even restricted to split graphs (which are the graphs whose vertex set can be partitioned into a clique and a stable set). In this work, we give a characterization by minimal forbidden induced subgraphs of circle graphs, restricted to split graphs.Comment: 59 pages, 15 figure

    Quantitative Models and Implicit Complexity

We give new proofs of soundness (all representable functions on base types lies in certain complexity classes) for Elementary Affine Logic, LFPL (a language for polytime computation close to realistic functional programming introduced by one of us), Light Affine Logic and Soft Affine Logic. The proofs are based on a common semantical framework which is merely instantiated in four different ways. The framework consists of an innovative modification of realizability which allows us to use resource-bounded computations as realisers as opposed to including all Turing computable functions as is usually the case in realizability constructions. For example, all realisers in the model for LFPL are polynomially bounded computations whence soundness holds by construction of the model. The work then lies in being able to interpret all the required constructs in the model. While being the first entirely semantical proof of polytime soundness for light logi cs, our proof also provides a notable simplification of the original already semantical proof of polytime soundness for LFPL. A new result made possible by the semantic framework is the addition of polymorphism and a modality to LFPL thus allowing for an internal definition of inductive datatypes.Comment: 29 page

Punti Kayu Natural Tourism Park is a conservation forest contained in Palembang with an area of 50 hectares. Conservation forest utilization as a natural tourism park has a fantastic tourism development potential. Considering this matter, it is necessary to research about vegetation analysis at Punti Kayu nature tourism park for tourism development at Punti Kayu Palembang. The purpose of this research is to know the composition and structure of tree vegetation at TWA Punti Kayu Palembang. The research was conducted from April to June 2017. The method used in this research is Simple Random Sampling with 63 plot total sample. The results of this study obtained 24 tree species consisting of 949 tree phases, 114 pole phases, 141 sappling phases, and 375 phases of seedlings.Tree phases was dominated by Pinus Spesies with total 750 trees (INP 212,65%), in the pole phase, sapplings phase and seedling phase were dominated by Talok with total 25 poles (INP 57,96%), 17 sapplings (INP 39.89%) and 60 seedlings (INP 29.51%), The level of diversity of tree species and seedlings included in the low category, the tree of 0.493 and the seedlings of 0.824. One characteristic of good vegetation is the high level of species diversity. according to Kristinawanti et al (2013) good tree vegetation will have a positive impact on increasing tourist visits The results of this research can be used to support tourism in Punti Kayu Nature Tourism Park because it can be used as a reference to assess the management of Punti Kayu Nature Tourism Park

Synthesis of Poly-Silicon Thin Films on Glass Substrate Using Laser Initiated Metal Induced Crystallization of Amorphous Silicon for Space Power Application

    Get PDF
Poly-silicon thin films on glass substrates are synthesized using laser initiated metal induced crystallization of hydrogenated amorphous silicon films. These films can be used to fabricate solar cells on low cost glass and flexible substrates. The process starts by depositing 200 nm amorphous silicon films on the glass substrates. Following this, 200 nm of sputtered aluminum films were deposited on top of the silicon layers. The samples are irradiated with an argon ion cw laser beam for annealing. Laser power densities ranging from 4 to 9 W/cm2 were used in the annealing process. Each area on the sample is irradiated for a different exposure time. Optical microscopy was used to examine any cracks in the films and loss of adhesion to the substrates. X-Ray diffraction patterns from the initial results indicated the crystallization in the films. Scanning electron microscopy shows dendritic growth. The composition analysis of the crystallized films was conducted using Energy Dispersive x-ray Spectroscopy. The results of poly-silicon films synthesis on space qualified flexible substrates such as Kapton are also presented
