    Drivers influencing shared services adoption

    Organizations seeking improvements in their performance are increasingly exploring alternative models and approaches for providing support services; one such approach being Shared Services. Shared Services has the potential to provide positive and powerful impact to the organizations with the support of Information Systems (IS) as the platform for Shared Services application and implementation. Due to this situation, Shared Services is becoming one of the choices in IS area for researcher to conduct a research. Shared Services results a lot of positive outcomes especially improving on the organizations financial expenses. Although various studies have been identified in discussing about the benefits of Shared Services, drivers of Shared Services that influence its adoption have received little research attention. This paper has identified several drivers that influence organizations to adopt Shared Services. By using NVivo as a tool to analyze the content from selected journal articles, 5 drivers of Shared Services adoption were identified. This suggesting the strength and benefits in adopting shared service. By identifying the drivers, it could encourage the top management as the decision maker to implement Shared Services in their organization. Thus, this could lead to the business operation to operate more effectively

    Business intelligence readiness factors for higher education institution

    Higher Education Institution (HEI) have embarked on the new style of decision-making with the aim to enhance the speed and reliability of decision-making capabilities. One of the hardest challenges in implementing Business Intelligence (BI) is the organization’s readiness towards adopting and implementing BI systems. Currently, few published studies have examined BI readiness in HEI environment. Seeing this challenge, this study aims to contribute in determining the BI readiness factors in HEI specifically in the deployment strategies. Through inductive attention to BI in HEI environment, three broad factors have been identified: a) Organizational – that concerning on business strategies, process and structure, b) Technology – involves the BI system and knowledge for managing including the sources and c) Social – the culture within organization that may influence decision-making and its processes.     Aura is an electromagnetic field located outside living things which has a number of vibrational energy waves in it. For human being, this vibrating energy waves are related to energy level of the mind, the individual’s emotion and physical. The measurement of this energy can be made indirectly usingbiomedical devices like biosensor instead of direct snapping by optical camera. The aura pattern of the individual involved can be monitored by video capturing of the output produced by the device. Since the subject’s feelings affect aura readings, his emotion will be put to a level as low as possible through a simplemeditation. The data however, will be captured even before meditation to see the changes in the aura pattern and to find if there is any convergence to a stable or a final stage aura. This is what we define as the pure or characteristic aura of the individual. The stable or pure aura might be a little different fromsession to session but within the statistically accepted range. A sample of 10 students regardless of gender had been taken their aura color and analyzed at solar plexus chakra. The personal details of them had also been taken. Some repeated and stable aura images had been observed. It is found that almost everyone has a stable aura regardless of how unstable his aura normally. In general, good students tend to have a more stable aura compared to those with lower academic performanc

    Social network sites (SNS) utilization in learning landscape - systematic literature review

    Social network sites (SNS) have been widely used around the world to facilitate communication and engagement in the education landscape. The availability of various SNS types and their different functions have provided instructors and students with options in adding value to their learning process. However, there still lack of guidance on how to choose and strategize SNS utilization in learning. This paper explores SNS utilization by instructors and students in supporting the learning environment. The resources of the data are taken from four digital databases and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show the current types of SNS most used for learning purposes are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and WhatsApp. The main uses of these SNS are identified as being for communication, collaboration, sharing information, enhancing learning and social connection

    Application of water hyacinth in phytoremediation of wastewater

    Wastewater is any water source that a human has used for domestic, agricultural, commercial, or industrial activity. Wastewater needs to be treated before being discharged into the environment to reduce contamination of water bodies. The wastewater treatment must follow the Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations, 2009. Rivers in Malaysia continue to suffer wastewater pollution from the inefficiency of treatment. Wastewater has been recognized as the significant cause of these issues. Many physical, chemical, and biological techniques have evolved for sewage treatment. It has been observed that biological procedures are advantageous, and one of these procedures that can be considered is phytoremediation. Thus, this study investigated the effectiveness of water hyacinths in treating wastewater, such as the effluent from the wastewater treatment plant, river, and pond in Pusat Asasi, UiTM Dengkil, Selangor, by phytoremediation. Different parameters of pH, suspended solids, phosphorus, ammonia- nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen, chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand have been assessed. The research has been conducted with experimental works of 14 days. The laboratory works showed a significant reduction in most parameters after two weeks of phytoremediation

    Waste segregation through recycle and composting activities in urban and suburban areas

    The number of wastes generated in Malaysia is increasing every year. Eighty per cent of solid waste in landfills comes from recycled material, and food waste production has risen to around 15 000 tons per day. Recyclable waste and food waste are the highest waste produced in landfills. Recycling and food composting are two solutions that can reduce waste and slow down the rate of garbage received at the landfill. This research aims to determine the knowledge and awareness of waste segregation through recycling and composting. This paper also identifies the constraint of respondents on performing waste segregation. Here, an online questionnaire has been distributed to the community in urban and suburban areas in Selangor and Johor. A total of 125 respondents participated in this study. Analysis from the survey found no significant difference in the knowledge of waste segregation through recycling and composting between urban and suburban areas. It can be denoted that the respondents have a basic understanding of awareness on waste segregation, although only a few have not practised recycling due to several highlighted constraints. Therefore, some recommendation has been emphasized based on this finding, such as installing reverse vending machines (RVM), organizing campaigns, and providing more information on waste segregation. These suggestions have been the top choices to encourage waste segregation in the community. Moreover, further study needs to be extended to the household group in other states and assessing the effectiveness of RVM will elucidate the segregation behaviours among the community

    Boron nitride doped polyhydroxyalkanoate/chitosan nanocomposite for antibacterial and biological applications

    The present research focused on the fabrication of biocompatible polyhydroxyalkanoate, chitosan, and hexagonal boron nitride incorporated (PHA/Ch-hBN) nanocomposites through a simple solvent casting technique. The fabricated nanocomposites were comprehensively characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (FT-IR), field emission scanning electroscope (FESEM), and elemental mapping and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The antibacterial activity of nanocomposites were investigated through time-kill method against multi drug resistant (MDR) microbes such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) K1 strains. In addition, nanocomposites have examined for their host cytotoxicity abilities using a Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay against spontaneously immortalized human keratinocytes (HaCaT) cell lines. The results demonstrated highly significant antibacterial activity against MDR organisms and also significant cell viability as compared to the positive control. The fabricated PHA/Ch-hBN nanocomposite demonstrated effective antimicrobial and biocompatibility properties that would feasibly suit antibacterial and biomedical applications

    Lifting and swinging are daily activities that human do using the spine.Furthermore,spine provides support during standing and walking.Therefore,it is very important in everyday activities and it will be inconvenient when it is injured.Technology has provided ways to machine and human integration in helping or supporting people in their daily tasks.To make this integration successful, machines or robots need to understand the human muscle activity.To do so,electromyography (EMG) a bio signal record the electricity generated by muscle was implemented.However,the signal often influenced by the unwanted noise.In this paper,the MVC normalization method is applied to determine the spinal EMG signal on lumbar multifidus muscle when lifting an object.In order to analyze the identity of spinal EMG signal,two statistical analyses are done;1) ANOVA analysis and 2)Boxplot analysis.The signal will go through 8th order Gaussian function or Exponential Weight Moving Average Filter before being analysed.Results show that Exponential Weight Moving Average Filter gives more consistent value compared to 8th order Gaussian function which is 0.0428V RMSE based on linear fitting done from the maximum amplitude gather from the boxplot analysis done

    The social network communities that promote information about cancer are able to develop an interactive environment where there are virtual relationships among cancer patients. Only a few studies have looked at the role of social network sites (SNS) for cancer patients despite their potential to deliver health messages to large audiences. Hence, there should be more rigorous research to explain the behaviour of cancer patients in SNS.
