    Feedback Trading in Saffron Exchange Traded Funds

    Commodity Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) are one type of ETF that underlying assets are agricultural products, energy or metals instead of stocks. These ETFs expose their investors to the market of various commodities in different ways, such as physical commodity, futures of single commodity, futures of baskets commodities, equities with exposures to commodities in various forms. In recent years, this financial instrument has become one of the important investment options among several people by creating many advantages. Despite these developments, scarce evidence exists in the current literature on the feedback trading of ETF investors. The objective of this paper is examination of feedback trading in behavior investors of Saffron ETF in Iran. For this purpose, daily data of two Saffron ETF for January 3, 2021 - Novenber 11, 2022 and Sentana and Wadhwani (1992) model was used. Empirical analysis suggests that volatility of fund return is symmetrical against the news. Despite a formal market with full overlapping for the underlying assets, Saffron ETFs investors do not notice about the difference between ETFs' market prices and their Net Asset Value (NAV). The results of the feedback trading model show that there is no evidence of feedback trading in Saffron ETF. It seems that the market of Saffron ETF is efficient, which can be related to the specificity of the underlying assets and the investors of these ETFs

    Identification of ectoparasites of some ornamental fish, Isfahan Province

    The current study was done with the aim of identification of ectoparasites of some aquarium fish including Carassius auratus auratus, Poecilia reticulata, Pterophyllum scalar and Colisa lalia. A total of 140 fish were randomly collected from Isfahan city in 2013, and were transported alive in appropriate condition to Fishery Reserch Center, Islamic Azad University, Shahrekord. Fish were kept in separate aquariums and were individually studied. The obtained results revealed that the studied fish were infested by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus anchoratus, Dactylogyrus spiralis, Dactylogyrus sp1, Dactylogyrus sp2, Trianchoratus sp., Ancyrocephalus pseudorasbora and Gyrodactyrus sp. Overall, 64 0f 140 studied fish (46%) were found to be infested by parasites and the remaining were not infested. The highest infestation rate was found in gold fish (75%) and the lowest was observed in guppy (2.5%). A. pseudorasborae and Trianchoratus sp. are reported for the first time in Iran which were collected from gold fish and dwarf gourami, respectively. Gold fish is also reported as new host for D. spiralis

    A Survey on the Adjuvant Role of Naloxone Alone or Combined with Alum in Vaccination Against Fasciolosis in BALB/c Mice.

    BACKGROUND: Fasciolosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease imposing a heavy load of livestock losses worldwide. PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate immune-stimulatory effects of naloxone (NLX), an opioid receptor antagonist, in combination with alum in mice vaccinated with excretory-secretory antigens (E/S) of Fasciola hepatica. METHODS: 8-week-old female BALB/c mice were subcutaneously vaccinated using E/S antigens of F. hepatica. Experimental groups (14 mice per group) included: vaccine (E/S antigen), alum vaccine (E/S antigen plus alum), NLX vaccine (E/S antigen plus NLX), and alum-NLX vaccine (E/S antigen plus a mixture of alum-NLX). The control group was infused with PBS. Lymphocyte proliferation and the levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IgG2a, IgG1, and total IgG were measured. RESULTS: Mice vaccinated with NLX or alum-NLX adjuvants showed significantly higher rates of lymphocyte proliferation, IFN-γ, total IgG, and IgG2a levels. The mice that were injected with alum showed a significantly higher concentration of IL-4. Ratios of IFN-γ/Il-4 and IgG2a/IgG1 were significantly higher in the NLX and alum-NLX groups in comparison with the groups vaccinated either with alum or without any adjuvant. A significantly higher protection rate (62.5%) was seen in mice vaccinated with the alum-NLX adjuvant compared to the other groups. CONCLUSION: NLX can be effective in conferring cellular immunity and protection against F. hepatica. It is recommended to consider this agent as a potential adjuvant in vaccines against fasciolosis

    Effects of COVID-19 prevention procedures on other common infections: a systematic review

    Introduction: Since the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) began, necessary measures to prevent virus transmission and reduce mortality have been implemented, including mandatory public use of masks, regular hand-sanitizing and hand-washing, social distancing, avoidance of crowds, remote work, and cancellation of public events. During and after the introduction of COVID-19 lockout, we performed a systematic review of available published literature to investigate the incidence of seasonal influenza and other respiratory viral infections. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Research Gate, and the World Health Organization databases and websites were systematically searched for original studies concerning the impact of COVID-19 prevention means and measures on other common respiratory infectious diseases during the pandemic published by March 2021. Results: The findings showed that the adherence to health protocols to prevent COVID-19 could help to reduce the incidence of other infectious diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Conclusion: The implemented prevention measures and protocols might have reduced the incidence of influenza and some other common respiratory infections. However, controversies exist on this matter and future large population-based studies might provide further information to address these controversies. © 2021, The Author(s)

    Airborne Object Detection Using Hyperspectral Imaging: Deep Learning Review

    © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG. Hyperspectral images have been increasingly important in object detection applications especially in remote sensing scenarios. Machine learning algorithms have become emerging tools for hyperspectral image analysis. The high dimensionality of hyperspectral images and the availability of simulated spectral sample libraries make deep learning an appealing approach. This report reviews recent data processing and object detection methods in the area including hand-crafted and automated feature extraction based on deep learning neural networks. The accuracy performances were compared according to existing reports as well as our own experiments (i.e., re-implementing and testing on new datasets). CNN models provided reliable performance of over 97% detection accuracy across a large set of HSI collections. A wide range of data were used: a rural area (Indian Pines data), an urban area (Pavia University), a wetland region (Botswana), an industrial field (Kennedy Space Center), to a farm site (Salinas). Note that, the Botswana set was not reviewed in recent works, thus high accuracy selected methods were newly compared in this work. A plain CNN model was also found to be able to perform comparably to its more complex variants in target detection applications

    A systematic review of sarcopenia prevalence and associated factors in people living with human immunodeficiency virus

    People living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLWH) appear to be at an increased risk of sarcopenia, which can have a devastating effect on their life due to consequences such as physical disability, poor quality of life, and finally death. This systematic review examined sarcopenia prevalence and its associated factors in PLWH. A systematic search was conducted using the keywords in the online databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane databases from the dates of inception up to May 2022. The retrieved articles underwent a two-step title/abstract and full-text review process, and the eligible papers were selected and included in the qualitative synthesis. Data relating to the study population, purpose of study, gender, age, race, body mass index, medical history, paraclinical results and antiretroviral therapy as associated factors of sarcopenia were extracted. In addition, the prevalence of sarcopenia in PLWH and its promoting and reducing factors were also extracted. We reviewed the 14 related studies for identifying of sarcopenia prevalence and its associated factors in PLWH. The total number of PLWH in all the reviewed studies was 2592. There was no criterion for the minimum number of people with HIV and the lowest number of PLWH was 27, and the highest number was 860. Some studies reported a significantly higher prevalence of sarcopenia in HIV-infected individuals compared with HIV-negative controls as follows: 24.2–6.7%, 15–4% and 10–6%, respectively. We showed that, age (30–50 years), being female, >5 years post-HIV diagnosis, multiple vertebral fractures, cocaine/heroin use and lower gamma-glutamyl transferase level were the main promoting factors of sarcopenia. Higher educational level, employment, physical exercise, calf circumference >31 cm, and gait speed >0.8 m/s were also factors to reduce sarcopenia. Sarcopenia prevalence in PLWH is higher than HIV-negative population. Given the importance and prevalence of sarcopenia among PLWH and its associated consequences (i.e., mortality and disability), determining its risk factors is of great importance. © 2023 The Authors.
