Inverse problems associated with integrable equations of Camassa-Holm type; explicit formulas on the real axis, I
The inverse problem which arises in the Camassa--Holm equation is revisited
for the class of discrete densities. The method of solution relies on the use
of orthogonal polynomials. The explicit formulas are obtained directly from the
analysis on the real axis without any additional transformation to a "string"
type boundary value problem known from prior works
An interleaved sampling scheme for the characterization of single qubit dynamics
In this paper, we demonstrate that interleaved sampling techniques can be
used to characterize the Hamiltonian of a qubit and its environmental
decoherence rate. The technique offers a significant advantage in terms of the
number of measurements that are required to characterize a qubit. When compared
to the standard Nyquist-Shannon sampling rate, the saving in the total
measurement time for the interleaved method is approximately proportional to
the ratio of the sample rates.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
MOST photometry of the RRd Lyrae variable AQ Leo: Two radial modes, 32 combination frequencies, and beyond
Highly precise and nearly uninterrupted optical photometry of the RR Lyrae
star AQ Leo was obtained with the MOST (Microvariability & Oscillations of
STars) satellite over 34.4 days in February-March 2005. AQ Leo was the first
known double-mode RR Lyrae pulsator (RRd star). Three decades after its
discovery, MOST observations have revealed that AQ Leo oscillates with at least
42 frequencies, of which 32 are linear combinations (up to the sixth order) of
the radial fundamental mode and its first overtone. Evidence for period changes
of these modes is found in the data. The other intrinsic frequencies may
represent an additional nonradial pulsation mode and its harmonics (plus linear
combinations) which warrant theoretical modeling. The unprecedented number of
frequencies detected with amplitudes down to millimag precision also presents
an opportunity to test nonlinear theories of mode growth and saturation in RR

Continuous and discontinuous piecewise linear solutions of the linearly forced inviscid Burgers equation
We study a class of piecewise linear solutions to the inviscid Burgers
equation driven by a linear forcing term. Inspired by the analogy with peakons,
we think of these solutions as being made up of solitons situated at the
breakpoints. We derive and solve ODEs governing the soliton dynamics, first for
continuous solutions, and then for more general shock wave solutions with
discontinuities. We show that triple collisions of solitons cannot take place
for continuous solutions, but give an example of a triple collision in the

Mapping the Association of Global Executive Functioning Onto Diverse Measures of Psychopathic Traits
Psychopathic individuals display a callous-coldhearted approach to interpersonal and affective situations and engage in impulsive and antisocial behaviors. Despite early conceptualizations suggesting that psychopathy is related to enhanced cognitive functioning, research examining executive functioning (EF) in psychopathy has yielded few such findings. It is possible that some psychopathic trait dimensions are more related to EF than others. Research using a 2-factor or 4-facet model of psychopathy highlights some dimension-specific differences in EF, but this research is limited in scope. Another complicating factor in teasing apart the EF–psychopathy relationship is the tendency to use different psychopathy assessments for incarcerated versus community samples. The inverse spectral problem for the discrete cubic string
Given a measure on the real line or a finite interval, the "cubic string"
is the third order ODE where is a spectral parameter. If
equipped with Dirichlet-like boundary conditions this is a nonselfadjoint
boundary value problem which has recently been shown to have a connection to
the Degasperis-Procesi nonlinear water wave equation. In this paper we study
the spectral and inverse spectral problem for the case of Neumann-like boundary
conditions which appear in a high-frequency limit of the Degasperis--Procesi
equation. We solve the spectral and inverse spectral problem for the case of
being a finite positive discrete measure. In particular, explicit
determinantal formulas for the measure are given. These formulas generalize
Stieltjes' formulas used by Krein in his study of the corresponding second

Integrating gerontology competencies into graduate nursing programs.
Current demographic and health care utilization trends strongly indicate a rapidly increasing demand for nurses who are well qualified to care for older adults. Advanced practice nurses are positioned to assume leadership roles in geriatric nursing care; however, they must first acquire adequate preparatory education. This article describes two graduate nursing schools’ curricular innovations that were funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation, in collaboration with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), through the Geriatric Nursing Education Project: Enhancing Gerontological/Geriatric Nursing for Advanced Practice Nursing. These programs at University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Pennsylvania State University incorporated techniques to translate the Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist Competencies for Older Adult Care [American Association of Colleges of Nursing. (2004). Nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist competencies for older adult care. Washington, DC: AACN] into an advanced practice curriculum and developed strategies to sustain curricular innovations. Finally, lessons learned from these two projects are discussed and recommendations are made for integrating geriatric nursing competencies into graduate programs
The Impact of Acceptance and Commitment Training and Multicultural Training on the stigmatizing attitudes and professional burnout of substance abuse counselors
Empirically validated methods for reducing stigma and prejudice toward recipients of behavioral healthcare services are badly needed. In the present study, two packages presented in one day workshops were compared to a biologically oriented Educational Control condition in the alleviation of stigmatizing attitudes in drug abuse counselors. One, Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), utilized acceptance, defusion, mindfulness, and values methods. The other, Multicultural Training, sensitized participants to group prejudices and biases. Measures of stigma and burnout were taken pre-training, post-training, and after a three month follow-up. Results showed that Multicultural Training had an impact on stigmatizing attitudes and burnout post-intervention but not at follow-up, but showed better gains in a sense of personal accomplishment as compared to the Educational Control at follow-up. ACT had a positive impact on stigma at follow-up and on burnout at post-treatment and follow-up and follow-up gains in burnout exceeded those of Multicultural Training. ACT also significantly changed the believability of stigmatizing attitudes. This process mediated the impact of ACT but not Multicultural Training on follow-up stigma and burnout. This preliminary study opens new avenues for reducing stigma and burnout in behavioral health counselors
Affordances, constraints and information flows as ‘leverage points’ in design for sustainable behaviour

The 'rules of the system' -- interpreted here to refer to affordances and constraints -- and the structure of information flows both offer a range of opportunities for design interventions to in fluence behaviour change, and in this paper, some of the implications and possibilities are discussed with reference to parallel concepts from within design, HCI and relevant areas of psychology
Relationship Between Nutritional Habits and Hair Calcium Levels in Young Women
The present study was conducted to investigate whether hair calcium levels are related to nutritional habits, selected status parameters, and life-style factors in young women. Eighty-five healthy female students neither pregnant nor lactating, using no hair dyes or permanents were recruited for the study. Food consumption data, including fortified products and dietary supplements were collected with 4-day records. The calcium levels in hair and serum were analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Serum osteocalcin and the C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen were assayed by ELISA. The women were divided into four groups according to their total vitamin D and calcium intakes and hair calcium levels. At adequate calcium intake and comparable serum bone biomarker levels, supplemental vitamin D increased the hair calcium levels. On the other hand, at lower than estimated adequate requirement of vitamin D intake the hair calcium levels were comparable in women with low calcium intakes but consuming high amounts of meat products or those whose diets were rich in dairy products, possibly due to homeostatic mechanisms. Elevated hair calcium was seen in 25% of subjects and could not be related to nutritional or life-style factors. The results show that the hair calcium levels were weakly related to the quality of diet, with some synergistic interactions between nutrients, especially vitamin D and magnesium
