Impact of cooperation in flow-induced diffusive mobile molecular communication

    Get PDF
Motivated by the numerous healthcare applications of molecular communication (MC) inside blood vessels, this work considers relay/cooperative nanomachine (CN)-assisted mobile MC between a source nanomachine (SN) and a destination nanomachine (DN) where each nanomachine is mobile in a flow- induced diffusive channel. Using the first hitting time mode l, the impact of an intermediate CN on the performance of the CN-assisted diffusive mobile MC system with fully absorbing receivers is analyzed in the presence of inter-symbol interference, multi-source interference, and counting errors. For this purpose, the likelihood ratio test based optimal symbol detection scheme is obtained at the DN considering the non-ideal nature of CN, i.e., CN can be in error with a finite probability. Further, to characterize the system performance, closed-form express ions for the end-to-end probabilities of detection and false alarm at the DN are derived between the SN-DN pair incorporating the detection performance of the intermediate CN. In addition, the channel capacity expression is also derived for the aforementioned scenario. Simulation results are presented to corroborate the theoretical results derived and also, to yield insights into system performance

OTFS transceiver design and sparse doubly-selective CSI estimation in analog and hybrid beamforming aided mmWave MIMO systems

Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) waveform based millimeter wave (mmWave) MIMO systems are capable of achieving high data rates in high-mobility scenarios. Hence, transceivers are designed for both analog beamforming (AB) and hybrid beamforming (HB), where we commence by deriving the delay-Doppler (DD)-domain input-output relationship considering a delay-Doppler-angular domain channel model. Subsequently, a novel two-stage procedure is developed for transmit beamformer (TBF)/ precoder (TPC) and receiver combiner (RC) design, and for estimating the DD-domain’s equivalent channel state information (CSI). The key feature of the proposed framework is that the RF TBF/ TPC and RC design maximizes the directional beamforming gains. It is also demonstrated that the low-dimensional baseband CSI of the DD-domain becomes sparse for mmWave-AB MIMO OTFS systems, and block-sparse for mmWave-HB MIMO OTFS systems. Subsequently, Bayesian learning (BL) and block-sparse BL (BS-BL) solutions are developed for improved CSI estimation. We also derive the Bayesian Cramer-Rao lower bounds (BCRLB) for benchmarking the mean-squared-error (MSE) of the CSI estimates. Finally, our simulation results demonstrate the improved efficacy of the proposed transceiver designs and confirm the enhanced CSI estimation performance of the BL-based schemes over other competing sparse signal recovery schemes

Synthesis of graphene sheets from single walled carbon nanohorns: novel conversion from cone to sheet morphology

    No full text
Graphene sheets have been synthesized from single walled carbon nanohorns by one-step reaction with hydrogen peroxide. The obtained graphene sheets are in pure form and shows good electrical properties. As-synthesized graphene acts as dual function of support as well as reducing agent to prepare graphene-silver nanoparticle composite having uniform particle size of 6 nm. This method can easily be scalable to prepare graphene or graphene supported metal nanoparticle composites for versatile applications

Advances in base-station and mobile-station aided cooperative wireless communications: an overview

In recent years, there has been an upsurge of research interest in cooperative wireless communications in both academia and industry. This article presents a simple overview of the pivotal topics in both mobile station (MS)- and base station (BS)- assisted cooperation in the context of cellular radio systems. Owing to the ever-increasing amount of literature in this particular field, this article is by no means exhaustive, but is intended to serve as a roadmap by assembling a representative sample of recent results and to stimulate further research. The emphasis is initially on relay-base cooperation, relying on network coding, followed by the design of cross-layer cooperative protocols conceived for MS cooperation and the concept of coalition network element (CNE)-assisted BS cooperation. Then, a range of complexity and backhaul traffic reduction techniques that have been proposed for BS cooperation are reviewed. A more detailed discussion is provided in the context of MS cooperation concerning the pros and cons of dispensing with high-complexity, power-hungry channel estimation. Finally, generalized design guidelines, conceived for cooperative wireless communications, are presented.<br/
