    En este trabajo los autores analizan el uso del color en las estrategias de persuasión política que utilizan los partidos y los candidatos durante los procesos electorales. También se describe la utilización que los principales partidos políticos de México hacen de los colores para lograr un posicionamiento y una diferenciación política. Específicamente, se indaga sobre el uso del color en los XVI Juegos Panamericanos celebrados en Guadalajara en octubre del 2011. Por ejemplo, se señala que el azul fue el color preponderante en la decoración de las instalaciones deportivas, los hoteles de la ciudad, los automóviles oficiales y en la publicidad del evento, lo que formaba parte de una estrategia ante las próximas elecciones federales del 2012

    Resumo Realiza-se uma análise do uso do humor como parte das estratégias de persuasão na liderança e na política, em geral, e nas campanhas eleitorais em particular. Aborda-se também o estudo das funções desempenhadas pelo humor nas campanhas eleitorais e as razões pelas quais este é usado como parte de estratégias para convencer os eleitores. Examinou-se também a literatura especializada e as investigações já realizadas sobre o assunto, tanto nos negócios como na política. Finalmente, concluiu-se que, sob regimes democráticos, o humor tem sido utilizado como estratégia de comunicação durante as campanhas eleitorais para gerenciar o afeto e conquistar o voto dos eleitores, procurando persuadí-los e mobilizá-los. Palavras-chave: Humor, estratégias de persuasão política, liderança, marketing político, campanhas eleitorais, funções do humor, sistemas democráticos, poder político.   Abstract In this paper we analyze the use of humor as part of the strategies of persuasion in leadership and politics in general, and in election campaigns and the political marketing, in particular. It addresses also the study of the functions performed by the humor in election campaigns and the reasons why it is used as part of the strategies of persuasion of voters. We examine also the literature and research that has been done on the subject, both in business and in politics. Finally, we conclude that under democratic regimes, humor has been used as a marketing strategy during election campaigns to manage the affection and win the vote of the voters, seeking to persuade and mobilize.     Pharmacogenetics of Metformin in Type 2 Diabetes: Perspectives for Latin America

    Metformin, in the anti-hyperglycemic pharmacological therapy, is consumed by more than 150 million people annually in the world due to its affordable price, safety, and because of considerable pleiotropic effect that has a positive impact on the control of glycemia, insulin resistance, cardiovascular health, and cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Differences in metformin’s effect on glycemic control have been associated with diet, abdominal obesity, years of T2D evolutions, and genetic factors. The Population of Latin America presents an important genetic component of Amerindians that could be explained to some extent in the response to metformin in glycemic control. The most recognized effect of metformin is to inhibit gluconeogenesis hepatica. In recent years, it has been observed to reduce the effect on body mass, positive effects on inflammation, and recently on the intestine with changes in the microbiome that favor suppression of postprandial hyperglycemia. Association studies between genetic variants coding for proteins related to metformin pharmacodynamics have shown different effects on glycemic control in several ethnic groups with European and Asian ancestry, but in Latin America they are scarce or none. Nutrients can interact with metformin favoring or decreasing its anti-hyperglycemic effect, so the diet should be considered

    Portal vein thrombosis following laparoscopic cholecystectomy complicated by dengue viral infection: a case report

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Portal vein thrombosis is an uncommon post-operative complication following abdominal surgery. Although therapeutic anticoagulation is recommended, this treatment may be questionable when the patient has an associated bleeding diathesis.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>We report a case of a 63-year-old woman of Asian Indian ethnicity who developed portal vein thrombosis following an uneventful laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallstones. Her condition was further complicated by dengue viral infection in the post-operative period, with thrombocytopenia immediately preceding the diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis. The etiological connections between dengue viral infection with thrombocytopenia, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, portal vein thrombosis as well as the treatment dilemmas posed in treating a patient with portal vein thrombosis with a bleeding diathesis are discussed.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>When portal vein thrombosis occurs in patients with contraindications to anticoagulation, there is a role for initial conservative management without aggressive anticoagulation therapy and such patients must be approached on an individualized basis.</p

    El presente reporte se enfoca en la creación de materiales audiovisuales para transformar la percepción actual de las y los adultos mayores, esto a partir de un eje rector que fue la diversidad en las formas de envejecer. El objetivo fue crear una campaña de sensibilización a partir de contenidos que se habían hecho en periodos anteriores del PAP, y con estos, mostrar una imagen digna de las y los adultos mayores para generar una transformación de los estereotipos que giran en torno a ellos. El trabajo se realizó a partir de un diagnóstico para conocer las formas en que se estaban siendo representados los adultos mayores en distintos medios de comunicación; y a partir de ahí se identificaron los recursos y elementos que ayudaban a generar una imagen digna e íntegra de ellos y los que no para usar como referencia de lo que se debía hacer y lo que no. Dentro de los resultados, encontramos distintos productos audiovisuales y gráficos que forman parte de una campaña de sensibilización y en los que se construye una imagen digna de los adultos mayores teniendo en cuenta las distintas formas de envejecer.ITESO, A.C

    Constraining the pˉ/p\bar{p}/p Ratio in TeV Cosmic Rays with Observations of the Moon Shadow by HAWC

    An indirect measurement of the antiproton flux in cosmic rays is possible as the particles undergo deflection by the geomagnetic field. This effect can be measured by studying the deficit in the flux, or shadow, created by the Moon as it absorbs cosmic rays that are headed towards the Earth. The shadow is displaced from the actual position of the Moon due to geomagnetic deflection, which is a function of the energy and charge of the cosmic rays. The displacement provides a natural tool for momentum/charge discrimination that can be used to study the composition of cosmic rays. Using 33 months of data comprising more than 80 billion cosmic rays measured by the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory, we have analyzed the Moon shadow to search for TeV antiprotons in cosmic rays. We present our first upper limits on the pˉ/p\bar{p}/p fraction, which in the absence of any direct measurements, provide the tightest available constraints of 1%\sim1\% on the antiproton fraction for energies between 1 and 10 TeV.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures.
