    On Ternary FF-manifold Algebras and their Representations

    We introduce a notion of ternary FF-manifold algebras which is a generalization of FF-manifold algebras. We study representation theory of ternary FF-manifold algebras. In particular, we introduce a notion of dual representation which requires additional conditions similar to the binary case. We then establish a notion of a coherence ternary FF-manifold algebra. Moreover, we investigate the construction of ternary FF-manifold algebras using FF-manifold algebras.     A Blockchain-Based Network Slice Broker for 5G Services

    With advent of 5G, the classical mobile network business model is shifting from a network-operator-oriented business to a more open system with several actors. In this context, the Network Slice provider will play the role of an intermediate entity between the vertical service provider and the resource provider. To deploy a network slice, the network slice provider will require a brokering mechanism, which allows it to lease resources from different providers in a secure and private way.     Association entre la dégénérescence maculaire liée à l’âge et les parodontites

    Purpose: To evaluate the association between age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and periodontal disease, two frequent conditions in the elderly, with some risk factors in common. Methods: Single center, pilot, case-control study performed in a center specialized in the diagnosis and management of AMD. Periodontal status was evaluated in 43 AMD patients and 19 controls. Fundus examination and a complete periodontal examination were performed in all subjects. Results: AMD patients have a greater percentage of 3–4 mm clinical attachment loss compared to controls (47% vs. 38%, [P = 0.039]). However, no significant difference was found between the groups with regard to the prevalence of severe periodontitis. Conclusions: These results suggest an association between AMD and attachment loss characteristic of periodontal disease and support the need for larger prospective studies to elucidate the relationships between these 2 highly prevalent and potentially severe diseases

    Measuring Quality of Life in the Neighborhood: The Cases of Air-Polluted Cities in Tunisia

    The objective of this paper is to study the quality of life in the neighborhood by developing a scale to measure the perceived environmental quality of life. Items of the scale were produced using semi-structured interviews. Three main dimensions of environmental quality of life (EQL) were recognized by an exploratory factor analysis applied on 732 participants. This factor structure was then subjected to a confirmatory factor analysis performed on a second sample of 791 people. The satisfactory internal consistency of the three EQL dimensions, the good fit of the measurement model to the data and the stability of the factorial structure all confirm the excellent psychometric qualities of the designed scale

    Structure and reorientational dynamics of 1-F-adamantane

    The polymorphism and the dynamics of a simple rigid molecule (1-fluoro-adamantane) have been studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction and broadband dielectric spectroscopy. At temperatures below the melting point, the molecule forms an orientationally disordered Phase I with a cubic-centered structure (Phase I, Fm (3) over barm, Z = 4). This phase possesses eight equilibrium positions for the fluorine atom, with equal occupancy factors of 1/8. A solid-solid phase transition to a low-temperature tetragonal phase (Phase II, P (4) over bar2(1)c, Z = 2) reduces the statistical disorder to only four possible equivalent sites for the fluorine atom, with fractional occupancies of 1/4. The dynamics has been rationalized under the constraints imposed by the space group of the crystal structure determined by powder X-ray diffraction. The dielectric spectroscopy study reveals that the statistical disorder in Phase II is dynamic in character and is associated with reorientational jumps along the two-and three-fold axes. In the dielectric loss spectra, the cooperative (alpha) relaxation exhibits a shoulder on the high-frequency side. This remarkable finding clearly reveals the existence of two intrinsic reorientational processes associated with the exchange of the F atom along the four sites.     Toward Optimal Updating Time Inspection Based on Reliability Approach of Fatigue Crack Propagation

    It is well-established that fatigue crack growth process is one of the main process which can produce failure of structures and mechanical components. The aim of this work is to develop a model predicting an updating inspection time model for structural fatigue crack growth life based on updating reliability analysis taking into account the additional information generated by the previous inspection results. First order reliability method (FORM) and Surface response method are used to evaluate the reliability. The uncertainties such as material parameters and geometrical parameters which affect the lifespan of the structure were regarded as random variables. Updating reliability assessment based on Bayesian approach was introduced to determine the updating inspection time for target reliability. The method was illustrated through an application to a plate with an emergent rectilinear crack loaded with a constant amplitude cyclic stress. The results of the application are in a good agreement with the physical results and show that the proposed method is proved to be feasible and applicable in the general complex fatigue loading and able to give accurate updating framework for scheduling inspections. Furthermore the proposed approach leads to determine the optimal Inspection time strategy based upon cost-minimization by considering a single type or multiple types of inspections

    MRE11 Function in Response to Topoisomerase Poisons Is Independent of its Function in Double-Strand Break Repair in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Camptothecin (CPT) and etoposide (ETP) trap topoisomerase-DNA covalent intermediates, resulting in formation of DNA damage that can be cytotoxic if unrepaired. CPT and ETP are prototypes for molecules widely used in chemotherapy of cancer, so defining the mechanisms for repair of damage induced by treatment with these compounds is of great interest. In S. cerevisiae, deficiency in MRE11, which encodes a highly conserved factor, greatly enhances sensitivity to treatment with CPT or ETP. This has been thought to reflect the importance of double-strand break (DSB) repair pathways in the response to these to agents. Here we report that an S. cerevisiae strain expressing the mre11-H59A allele, mutant at a conserved active site histidine, is sensitive to hydroxyurea and also to ionizing radiation, which induces DSBs, but not to CPT or ETP. We show that TDP1, which encodes a tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase activity able to release both 5′- and 3′-covalent topoisomerase-DNA complexes in vitro, contributes to ETP-resistance but not CPT-resistance in the mre11-H59A background. We further show that CPT- and ETP-resistance mediated by MRE11 is independent of SAE2, and thus independent of the coordinated functions of MRE11 and SAE2 in homology-directed repair and removal of Spo11 from DNA ends in meiosis. These results identify a function for MRE11 in the response to topoisomerase poisons that is distinct from its functions in DSB repair or meiotic DNA processing. They also establish that cellular proficiency in repair of DSBs may not correlate with resistance to topoisomerase poisons, a finding with potential implications for stratification of tumors with specific DNA repair deficiencies for treatment with these compounds
