ArCo: the Italian Cultural Heritage Knowledge Graph

ArCo is the Italian Cultural Heritage knowledge graph, consisting of a network of seven vocabularies and 169 million triples about 820 thousand cultural entities. It is distributed jointly with a SPARQL endpoint, a software for converting catalogue records to RDF, and a rich suite of documentation material (testing, evaluation, how-to, examples, etc.). ArCo is based on the official General Catalogue of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) - and its associated encoding regulations - which collects and validates the catalogue records of (ideally) all Italian Cultural Heritage properties (excluding libraries and archives), contributed by CH administrators from all over Italy. We present its structure, design methods and tools, its growing community, and delineate its importance, quality, and impact

    Relativity and the lead-acid battery

The energies of the solid reactants in the lead-acid battery are calculated ab initio using two different basis sets at non-relativistic, scalar relativistic, and fully relativistic levels, and using several exchange-correlation potentials. The average calculated standard voltage is 2.13 V, compared with the experimental value of 2.11 V. All calculations agree in that 1.7-1.8 V of this standard voltage arise from relativistic effects, mainly from PbO2 but also from PbSO4

Radiation to supraclavicular and internal mammary lymph nodes in breast cancer increases the risk of stroke

The aim of this study was to assess whether adjuvant treatment of breast cancer (BC) affects the risk of stroke, and to explore radiation targets and fraction doses regarding risk and location of stroke. In a Swedish BC cohort diagnosed during 1970–2003, we carried out a nested case–control study of stroke after BC, with relevant details extracted from medical records. The odds ratio (OR) for radiotherapy (RT) vs that of no RT did not differ between cases and controls (OR=0.85; confidence interval, CI=0.6–1.3). Radiotherapy to internal mammary chain (IMC) and supraclavicular (SCL) lymph nodes vs that of no RT was associated with a higher, although not statistically significant, risk of stroke (OR=1.3; CI=0.8–2.2). In a pooled analysis, RT to IMC and SCL vs the pooled group of no RT and RT to breast/chest wall/axilla (but not IMC and SCL), showed a significant increase of stroke (OR=1.8; CI=1.1–2.8). There were no associations between cancer laterality, targets of RT, and location of stroke. The radiation targets, IMC and SCL, showed a statistically significant trend for an increased risk of stroke with daily fraction dose. Our finding of a target-specific increased risk of stroke and a dose-response relationship for daily fraction dose, indicate that there may be a causal link between RT to the IMC and SCL and risk of stroke

Final State Charge Exchange Interactions in the 12C(e,ep)^{12}C(e,e'p) Reaction

    Get PDF
The 12C(e,ep)^{12}C(e,e'p) reaction is analyzed in a model which explicitly includes final state interactions due to the coupling of the proton and neutron emission channels. We find that the effects of the final state interactions due to charge exchange reactions are important to get a good description of the symmetry properties of the recently measured Mainz spectral functions. We discuss the possible role the off-shell effects may play for the correct interpretation of spectral functions at large positive missing momenta.Comment: 9 pages Revtex, 4 figure

Broadband distortion modeling in Lyman-α\alpha forest BAO fitting

    Get PDF
In recent years, the Lyman-α\alpha absorption observed in the spectra of high-redshift quasars has been used as a tracer of large-scale structure by means of the three-dimensional Lyman-α\alpha forest auto-correlation function at redshift z2.3z\simeq 2.3, but the need to fit the quasar continuum in every absorption spectrum introduces a broadband distortion that is difficult to correct and causes a systematic error for measuring any broadband properties. We describe a kk-space model for this broadband distortion based on a multiplicative correction to the power spectrum of the transmitted flux fraction that suppresses power on scales corresponding to the typical length of a Lyman-α\alpha forest spectrum. Implementing the distortion model in fits for the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) peak position in the Lyman-α\alpha forest auto-correlation, we find that the fitting method recovers the input values of the linear bias parameter bFb_{F} and the redshift-space distortion parameter βF\beta_{F} for mock data sets with a systematic error of less than 0.5\%. Applied to the auto-correlation measured for BOSS Data Release 11, our method improves on the previous treatment of broadband distortions in BAO fitting by providing a better fit to the data using fewer parameters and reducing the statistical errors on βF\beta_{F} and the combination bF(1+βF)b_{F}(1+\beta_{F}) by more than a factor of seven. The measured values at redshift z=2.3z=2.3 are $\beta_{F}=1.39^{+0.11\ +0.24\ +0.38}_{-0.10\ -0.19\ -0.28}and and b_{F}(1+\beta_{F})=-0.374^{+0.007\ +0.013\ +0.020}_{-0.007\ -0.014\ -0.022}(1 (1\sigma,2, 2\sigmaand3 and 3\sigma$ statistical errors). Our fitting software and the input files needed to reproduce our main results are publicly available.Comment: 28 pages, 15 figures, matches the published versio

Polarization observables of the gamma d --> PiNN reaction in the Delta(1232)-resonance region

Polarization observables of the three charge states of the pion for the γdπNN\gamma d\to\pi NN reaction with polarized photon beam and/or oriented deuteron target are evaluated over the whole Δ\Delta(1232)-resonance region adopting a nonrelativistic model based on time-ordered perturbation theory. Results for the π\pi-meson spectra, linear photon asymmetry, vector and tensor target asymmetries are presented. Particular attention is given, for the first time, to double polarization asymmetries for which we present results for T20T_{20}^{\ell} and T2±2T_{2\pm 2}^{\ell}. We found that all other double polarization asymmetries of photon and deuteron target are vanished.Comment: 17 Pages, 8 Figures, accepted for publication in Int. J. Mod. Phys.

A measurement of the axial form factor of the nucleon by the p(e,e'pi+)n reaction at W=1125 MeV

The reaction p(e,e'pi+)n was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI at an invariant mass of W=1125 MeV and four-momentum transfers of Q^2=0.117, 0.195 and 0.273 (GeV/c)^2. For each value of Q^2, a Rosenbluth separation of the transverse and longitudinal cross sections was performed. An effective Lagrangian model was used to extract the `axial mass' from experimental data. We find a value of M_A=(1.077+-0.039) GeV which is (0.051+-0.044) GeV larger than the axial mass known from neutrino scattering experiments. This is consistent with recent calculations in chiral perturbation theory.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, uses elsart.cl

New limits on di-nucleons decay into invisible channels

Data of the radiochemical experiment [E.L.Fireman, 1978] with 1.7 t of KC_2H_3O_2, accumulated deep underground during ~1 yr, were reanalyzed to set limits on di-nucleons (nn and np) decays into invisible channels (disappearance, decay into neutrinos, etc.). The obtained lifetime bounds tau_np > 2.1 10^25 yr and tau_nn > 4.2 10^25 yr (at 90% C.L.) are better (or competitive) than those established in the recent experiments.Comment: 3 pages, accepted in JETP Letter

Microscopic Origin of Quantum Chaos in Rotational Damping

The rotational spectrum of 168^{168}Yb is calculated diagonalizing different effective interactions within the basis of unperturbed rotational bands provided by the cranked shell model. A transition between order and chaos taking place in the energy region between 1 and 2 MeV above the yrast line is observed, associated with the onset of rotational damping. It can be related to the higher multipole components of the force acting among the unperturbed rotational bands.Comment: 7 pages, plain TEX, YITP/K-99
