    This Comment examines the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, and its impact on American and Japanese nuclear energy policies. The second section of this Comment provides a brief history of the United States’ nuclear energy policy, describes U.S. nuclear policy in response to the Fukushima disaster, and offers recommendations for U.S. nuclear policy in the future. Section three provides a brief history of Japanese nuclear energy policy, describes Japanese nuclear policy in the wake of Fukushima, and offers recommendations for Japanese nuclear policy in the future. Section four concludes with a synopsis of American and Japanese nuclear energy policies and makes a prediction for these countries’ policies in the future

    This article discusses the potential impact that Title I has on the lives of individuals with mental disabilities and methods by which it can be most effectively implemented and enforced. The following section discusses the potential impact that Title I can have on the lives of the mentally disabled, specifically in the areas of independent living and quality of life. Part III will examine problems enforcing Title I which interfere with the ability of the mentally disabled to fully benefit from the statute. The second half of this article discusses how to best implement and enforce Title I from a therapeutic jurisprudence perspective. Specifically, Part IV will discuss the therapeutic value of Title I to the mentally disabled. The use of litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution as possible methods of enforcing Title I will be explored, with emphasis on the therapeutic aspects of each method

This study reviews the ideas and attitudes within the field of children’s literature, and proposes a new developmental literature program for intermediate grades at Wheeler Avenue School. The proposed program differs from the existing programs in its focus on developing students’ literary backgrounds, vs. simply improving students’ reading skills. The author emphasizes cultivating students’ interest in reading through read-alouds and providing them with enjoyable texts, and pays special attention to the importance of literature-based activities, such as puppet shows, choral speaking, and dramatic play

    MEASURING AN ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM WITH GENERALIZED FLEXIBLE LEAST SQUARES

    Structural change in meat consumption has been the focus of many researchers during the last two decades. In this paper we develop a dynamic linear Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) model from a cost function that allows for time varying parameters. This model is consistent with inertia in the parameters of the cost and indirect utility functions. It allows for persistent preferences which may arise from cultural biases, lifestyles, peer pressure, etc. An empirical application is conducted with US meat consumption and price data using a generalized system of flexible least squares, Generalized Flexible Least Squares (GFLS). GFLS allows parameters to evolve slowly over time through incorporating of penalties in fluctuations. Estimated quarterly elasticities were subjected to additional analysis to determine how highly they were related to the Brown and Schrader Cholesterol Index and relative prices.     Properties and Performance of High-Purity Thermal Barrier Coatings

    It has been found that reducing the level of impurity oxides (particularly SiO2 and Al2O3) in 7YSZ, from about 0.2 wt% to below 0.1 wt% raises the sintering resistance and the phase stability of plasma-sprayed coatings. The implications for the usage of these coatings at elevated temperatures are examined. It is concluded that using relatively high-purity powder of this type is likely to confer substantial benefits in terms of the thermomechanical stability of the coatings under service conditions

    Effect of Heat Treatment on Pore Architecture and Associated Property Charges in Plasma Sprayed TBCs

    Plasma sprayed TBCs exhibit many interlamellar pores, voids and microcracks. These microstructural features are primarily responsible for the low global stiffnesses and the low thermal conductivities commonly exhibited by such coatings. The pore architecture thus has an important influence on such thermophysical properties. In the present work, the effect of heat treatment (at temperatures up to 1400C, for times of up to 100 hours) and coating purity on the pore architecture in detached YSZ top coats has been characterised by Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) and BJH Analysis. While the overall porosity level (measured by densitometry) remained relatively unaffected (at around 10-12%) after the heat treatments concerned, there were substantial changes in the pore size distribution and the (inter-connected) specific surface area, although these changes occurred less rapidly with coatings produced using high purity powders. Fine pores (<~50 nm) rapidly disappeared, while the specific surface area dropped dramatically, particularly at high treatment temperatures (>~1300C). These changes are thought to be associated with improved inter-splat bonding and increased contact area, leading to disappearance of much of the very fine inter-splat porosity. These microstructural changes are reflected in sharply increased stiffness and thermal conductivity. Measured thermal conductivity data are compared with predictions from a recently-developed analytical model [1], using the deduced inter-splat contact area results as input parameters. Good agreement is obtained, suggesting that the model captures the main geometrical effects and the porosity architecture measurements reflect the most significant microstructural changes. REF.1.
